    Solved Streaming Problem

    • Written by from Harrisburg

Excellent product. It worked immediately the first time that I tried it. No problems at all, and no set-up required other than plugging it in to my MacBook Air. It boosted my connection speed enough, compared to wifi, to overcome a problem that I was having streaming high-res content from an unusually demanding source. Highly recommended for any MacBook Air user who occasionally needs Ethernet.

    Plug and play

I don't know what some of these other reviewers are having trouble with, but it works fine for me on a Retina Macbook Pro with 10.8.3.

    consitently crashes MacbookAir

    • Written by from Genève

When it works it is very good, but just about every time I plug it in, it crashes the MacbookAir 11 / 10.8.2 within the first minutes of use.
    Quite unacceptable !
Can't recommend until this serious issue is resolved.

Unbelievable: you need to use a non Apple driver to make it work!

    • Written by from WINDSOR

I use the adapter with a MB Air 4,1 (11" Mid11) - Mountain Lion 10.8.2 I tried to use it with a Cisco Hub and it did not work. I thought it was the cable, or the hub, then I found this on Apple discussions forums that this is a common problem and you need a an external driver to fix the problem.

I downloaded the driver from driversworld.us, I installed it and now it works. Still, I found appalling that an official driver product requires a non Apple driver to work.

    USB 2.0

    • Written by from Austin

1 Star because it's hot swappable in Bootcamp/Windows (unlike the thunderbolt ethernet adapter on MBPr)
    1 Star because it's 10/100.

-3 stars, not USB3.0, not Gigabit Ethernet.

    Works as expected so far

I'm maxing out my 30Mbit connection to my MacBook Air.

I just wish there was a nice dock I could use with my MBA. Too many cables to manage between my external drives, monitors etc.

Great, for about a year and half.

    • Written by from Menlo Park

This worked fine for a year with my MB Air (both Win 7/64 & Mt. Lion). Then it just died - not recognized at all as a USB device.

Dead after one day of use

    • Written by from SOUTH DEERFIELD

Actually, I used it less than a day, for about five hours.

    Next day, it is dead.

My macbook air does not even recognize it when it gets connected to the usb port.

    Very disappointed.

Works as advertised; gigE would be a plus

    • Written by from Philadelphia

The USB Ethernet adaptor does exactly what it says it does and I am quite pleased with it for what it is. However, it'd be a five star product if it supported gigabit Ethernet. I have >100 Mbps internet to my apartment, and so I really do need the extra speed to maximize my connection—completely regardless of my gigabit LAN. I'm eagerly anticipating a 10/100/1000 version of this dongle.

    Confusing setup on Snow Leopard

    • Written by from RIVERTON

Snow Leopard recognizes the device immediately. But even though it seems to be able to handle the presence of the device, it won't recognize an active Ethernet cable is connected. Only after repeated reboots with various attempts did the device finally work as required.
Otherwise, it seems to get the job done, albeit in a somewhat overpriced fashion. It works just fine with a 2-meter USB extension cable between it and a MacBook Air.

    Works on a Mac Pro

My Network card stopped working - bought this device and was able to convert a USB port to a network port without a problem - plug and play. Apple said it was only for the Mac Air but seems to work with every Mac we have...

    Works on iMac

    • Written by from Ladera ranch

Contrary to what the salesperson at the Apple store said (and what the online description would have you believe), this STILL works just fine on iMac's. I'm running 10.7.3 Lion and no issues.

Plug in and you're online, doesn't get easier than that...

It does work with Mac mini

    • Written by from Champaign

As of now, 2/2012. I am using this on a Mac Mini (mini 3.1, 2009) with Lion (10.7.3). Plug and play, works great. Replaced a DLink DUB-E101 which does not work with Lion.

There was a review that suggested that this no longer works for mini's after 10.6.6, and that this only works for Macbook air. I was worried about this when I ordered, but it worked fine for me. That reviewer reported using the server version of mac os, so maybe that is a different problem.

    Worked out of the box

    • Written by from Santa Clarita

I plugged this in and DHCP picked up an address right away. No configuration was necessary. I ran a LAN speed test using the following setup: Macbook air mid 2011 running OS X 10.7.2 with the network adapter plugged into a USB hub (built into my LA2405 display), VMware windows 7 virtual machine with a shared NAT network connection. I got a result of about 81Mbps write speed and 55Mbps read speed. This is not bad considering the layers I'm working through in my corporate network and we don't have a gigabit backend. I needed a solid connection because the wifi at work drops out if inactive for even a minute. This serves a very important purpose.

Considering this item is more expensive than a non-apple product, I would still buy Apple because as an Apple product, I am confident that a high level of testing has occurred between the interaction of this and other Apple products. I like to think that Apple will be more inclined to fix any issues (and do it faster than a third party) should they arise in the future due to the interaction of one or more Apple products.

    DO NOT BUY!!!

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This stupid adapter is only capable of fast Ethernet capable (100Mbps), which is about 12.5MB/s maximum, but never went faster than 9MB/s for me. USB 2.0 is cable of 45MB/s. This adapter is only good if you only use your Macbook Air for updating your facebook or something like that. Too slow for anything else.

Go somewhere else and find a USB to Ethernet adapter that is NOT Apple branded and can do 1000Mbps. That will allows for better Airplay functionality and much faster (500%) file transfer speeds.

Selling an Ethernet adapter that is not capable of 1 gigabit speeds at this day and age and at this price is shame. Apple, you are slipping!

    Excellent piece of hardware!

    • Written by from Green Bay

It does exactly what it's supposed to do. I knew ahead of time that it wouldn't give me gigabit speed. After all, it's utilizing a USB 2.0 port. However, it's still much faster than WIFI. FYI to the complainers, USB 2.0 speed is 480Mbps. That's all the faster that you will ever get with this, when using USB 2.0.

I also read some reviews stating that the adapter doesn't work with Lion. That is false. I'm using it with the latest Macbook Air, running Lion. It's plug and play.

I couldn't be happier! This is a very convenient little piece of hardware.

This works perfectly. Plug and play. I like the little plastic cap it comes with to keep it together. A little expensive but I don't mind paying a little more for something that is good quality. I would recommend this.
