Reviews for Apple USB Ethernet Adapter

After a recent update to 10.8.3 build 12D78, this device no longer works on my MBA 13" Checked with local Genius Bar, and chat support to no avail. Great as long as you don't update, worthless after you do. A patch from Apple would take it back to 5stars.

I don't know what some of these other reviewers are having trouble with, but it works fine for me on a Retina Macbook Pro with 10.8.3.

I use the adapter with a MB Air 4,1 (11" Mid11) - Mountain Lion 10.8.2 I tried to use it with a Cisco Hub and it did not work. I thought it was the cable, or the hub, then I found this on Apple discussions forums that this is a common problem and you need a an external driver to fix the problem.

I downloaded the driver from driversworld.us, I installed it and now it works. Still, I found appalling that an official driver product requires a non Apple driver to work.

I'm maxing out my 30Mbit connection to my MacBook Air.

I just wish there was a nice dock I could use with my MBA. Too many cables to manage between my external drives, monitors etc.

This worked fine for a year with my MB Air (both Win 7/64 & Mt. Lion). Then it just died - not recognized at all as a USB device.

As soon as I updated to Mountain Lion this stopped working. Useless

Snow Leopard recognizes the device immediately. But even though it seems to be able to handle the presence of the device, it won't recognize an active Ethernet cable is connected. Only after repeated reboots with various attempts did the device finally work as required.
Otherwise, it seems to get the job done, albeit in a somewhat overpriced fashion. It works just fine with a 2-meter USB extension cable between it and a MacBook Air.

Contrary to what the salesperson at the Apple store said (and what the online description would have you believe), this STILL works just fine on iMac's. I'm running 10.7.3 Lion and no issues.

I plugged this in and DHCP picked up an address right away. No configuration was necessary. I ran a LAN speed test using the following setup: Macbook air mid 2011 running OS X 10.7.2 with the network adapter plugged into a USB hub (built into my LA2405 display), VMware windows 7 virtual machine with a shared NAT network connection. I got a result of about 81Mbps write speed and 55Mbps read speed. This is not bad considering the layers I'm working through in my corporate network and we don't have a gigabit backend. I needed a solid connection because the wifi at work drops out if inactive for even a minute. This serves a very important purpose.

Considering this item is more expensive than a non-apple product, I would still buy Apple because as an Apple product, I am confident that a high level of testing has occurred between the interaction of this and other Apple products. I like to think that Apple will be more inclined to fix any issues (and do it faster than a third party) should they arise in the future due to the interaction of one or more Apple products.
