Flawed. Damages metal trim on phone

    • Written by from Creswell

As several other reviewers have mentioned, the Apple bumper cases are flawed and damage the metal trim around the sides of the phone, leaving it with a lot of scuffs and scratches. If you're hoping to keep your phone looking decent, this is not the case for you. I'm not sure why Apple keeps selling these with this flaw.

Not all the bumpers are the same!

    • Written by from Austin

I just bought the same type of Apple bumper (from an Apple store) for my mother's iPhone and mine. The only difference was that one bumper is black and the other is white. Oddly enough they function different! The black bumper is made of rubber on the edges so it doesn't slip out of your hand (works great). However, the white bumper does not have the same rubber edges. In fact, the white bumper made the phone very slippery to handle.

Hey Apple -- Bad design on both bumpers and a phone with a metal band, which has a very low coefficient of friction (things slip out!) But lucky you guys -- it pushes us consumers to buy your overpriced bumpers. Thanks a lot.

    Dirty business

    • Written by from essex junction

I bought this for protection and because I was told it would augment the antenna. Blue looked lovely for about a month but now is disgusting. I expect more from a $30 piece of rubber/plastic. Tried to clean it with everything and nothing works but I refuse to spend another $30 because the product is flawed. Resisted complaining at the Genius Bar. :-)

    Don't buy it!

    • Written by from Lexington

I hate this since it made a mess around the stainless steel band on my iPhone. It left marks and scratches (severe ones) that won't come off. Dirt also is ingrained on the metal now. DONT BUY! It is also way to expensive for this type of product.

This thing was still worthless when Apple was giving them out for free.

    • Written by from Chevy Chase

I got the bumper with the iPhone 4 when it first came out. I dropped my phone about 2ft onto the street with the bumper on. And this short fall cracked the screen. Also, having the bumper on makes it next to impossible get your phone out of your pocket. The grip on the sides does a great job of gripping to the sides of your pocket.

Cheap and non protective, let alone doesn't work

    • Written by from Lomita

This is the worst piece of cheap plastic I've ever seen. I had gotten my previous bumper from the AT&T store and it was a very protective bumper that wrapped more around the corners of the phone. This is just a piece of plastic that is so ill fitting that the slightest touch makes it move over the ringer button to mute it. There is no way it can't move over the sensitive button. Secondly, on the bumper itself there are side buttons which I guess I'm supposed to be able to press that are over the volume buttons on the phone itself and on the on/off button on top. When pressing on them, nothing happens and I literallly have to take the bumper off to just adjust the volume or turn the phone off. Not worth the aggravation of having to call to send back because the product is defective, paying a 10% restocking fee?? Are you kidding me?? And the effort to take it and pay UPS?? Are you kidding for something that doesn't work and this cheap?

Gets dirty very quickly, can't be cleaned

    • Written by from Omaha

For the price, I'm disappointed. I bought the orange one and it looked very cool on my white iphone for about 3 weeks and then the softer outer part got darker and darker. There is no way to clean it once the oils from your hands have seeped in. Don't buy unless you get the black one.

WARNING! Do not buy this! It scratches your phone. I know this sounds kind of weird, but it's true. It scratches the metal around your iPhone. I talked to a guy at the Apple Store about this, and he said that the bumpers are known for scratching the iPhone. WHY would anyone buy a case that will scratch your phone?! It scratched my phone and I think I should be reimbursed for this pathetic product.

    DON'T BUY!

    • Written by from East Chicago

Sure the bumper keeps your iPhone looking good but at the same time scratches your metal antenna. Also seems to attract a lot more dirt and is leaves smudges on your screen so you have to take it off on a constant basis just to clean the screen. I suggest you not get it.

    Dirt Magnet

This bumper is impossible to keep clean. The rubber edges seem to attract dirt, I highly suggest buying black if you would like to use this style.

Good case but not compatible! DO NOT BUY

    • Written by from San Bernardino

As a case the bumper works pretty well for me. I am always careful with my iphones anyway. Nor have I noticed any problem with scratching the metal band like another poster had. The problem is the plastic at the bottom is so thick it is incompatible with a lot of auto charger-holders! I have a Belkin holder/charger in one car that plugs into my stereo. I use Slacker radio and Navigon. But I have to remove the bumper case or it won't charge.

I ordered a Proclip charger/holder for my jeep and same problem. Proclip now makes a holder that works with the bumper case, but not with a charger! So I have ordered an iskin solo case that Proclip says will fit. It is thinner and goes on like the bumper case, but has a translucent back.

This is very disappointing. You would think that an Apple designed accessory would be well thought out and made to use with other common accessories.

The apple bumper scratches the metal on your phone.. if you want to keep your iphone looking good then i would suggest you buy a different case. My poor iphone looks terrible because of the bumper. Don't let it happen to you.
