    Looked great...for about a week

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I have a white bumper on my black iphone 4. It looked awesome and sleek for about a week or so, but after a month and a half it looks terrible. The rubber part of the bumper is gray, dingy looking, and chipped and peeling in places. The white plastic looks just as bad and it looks like there's a clear film that's wearing off.

Overally, very disappointed in Apple's first attempt at a case. I know it was free through the rebate program, but now I have to look for another case that doesn't look terrible. It's not as if I store my phone at the bottom of a bag of rocks and dirt, it's usually in a pocket in my purse or stuck in the back pocket of my jeans.

    Buy Black

    • Written by from Rock Hill

So I bought a black bumper on Day 1 when I bought my iPhone 4 and really liked the bumper. After the free case program though, EVERYBODY has the black bumper, so I wanted to differentiate myself. So I bought the white bumper thinking it was the exact same, just white.

I was wrong. One of the things that most people HATE about the black bumper is that the "front" and "back" of the bumper (relative to the phone) is "grippy". I happen to love that it is so. It is sort of a pain to get out of my jeans pocket, but in every other situation, the grippyness works out in my favor. If I have it on a table, or it my car, or on any surface it stays put.

The white bumper does NOT have these "grippy" rubber sides, like my black one does. I don't know if this is indicative of all the colored bumpers or all of the bumpers now, but I am returning my white one and sticking with my black one.

    nice look with added protection

    • Written by from Houston

... the bumper in white really looks good on the iPhone. I thought it would attrack dirt on white, but it hasn't even in the extreme sweaty enviroment as the gym. With my anti-glare screen protector white on black looks good. Plus I don't have to worry about lying my phone flat on it's back in fear of scratches--- the bumper keeps that from happening with added protection around the edges.

    Great while it lasts

    • Written by from Houston

It's actually quite a good product while it lasts. Unfortunately, IF you take it off and put it back on repeatedly (which is necessary if you use an old car charger or sync cable), it breaks down. I got three months out of mine before the soft rubber stopped fitting snugly and the hard plastic around the port split (further compromising the fit and protection offered).

    Do Not Buy...please read!!!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

The inside of the bumper case doesn't have a rubber or silicon coating which would protect your phone from the sides. If you buy this bumper or receive this bumper of any color you will be harming your iphone. After a few weeks of having the bumper installed upon removing you will notice severe scratches. Scratches caused by the inside of the bumper. I suggest you apply cellophane tape all around the inside. Otherwise your precious iphone will be looking scratched. The choice is yours, you have been warned.

    Good product, but...

    • Written by from Irvine

This is a nice case in terms of fit and appearance-and I like how it actually looks like an organic part of the phone. However, after a few months of use I noticed that the plastic parts leave abrasion marks all over the metal band-- especially on the buttons where there is constanct contact. My phone's metal band now looks like it has scratches/marks all over it which I was trying to prevent with this bumper in the first place.

    Dont buy!!!!

    • Written by from fairfax

This case is an excellent aesthetic addition to the phone, but once you leave it on for a while, the metal will look HORRIBLE! I usually love Apple products, and love my iPhone, but once the metal was ruined, i was too embarrassed to take off the bumper, so now it keeps getting worse. I assume Apple won't fix "aesthetic/cosmetic" damage. CAUTION DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!

Only trust Apple for this one!

    • Written by from Springfield

I was skeptical at first. The average review is only three stars, but I knew I wanted a bumper case. A slim profile was important to me and I like to be able to see the phone. I'm a college student so dirt and water aren't really a big concern. It lives in my pocket, see. That's not too harsh of an environment. The bumper really is an awesome possibility for the iPhone 4 and 4S. It sticks past the edges of the phone just enough to keep the back and screen off of surfaces and it's impossible to drop the phone on a normal, flat surface and the case not take the impact.

I tried two cheap knockoff bumpers before this one because I didn't want to spend $30 on such a simple product. Well, as it turns out, it's not so simple. The first bumper's buttons stuck and quickly discolored. After about a week the lock button cover fell off and cracks started to appear in the plastic around the buttons. The second bumper didn't fit exactly right. Pressure anywhere along the top edge of the phone would trigger the lock/unlock and MU phone frequently locked in the middle of a task or prompted me to shut off arbitrarily. The moral or the story is that though these bumpers are much cheaper (~$2) they just aren't quality products. This one fits perfectly. The buttons have good feel and look high quality. The profile is actually slimmer than the others I tried, too. That means its smaller in my pocket and still keeps the screen off of the table or car console.

I hope to save you the trouble of being disappointed in the cheaper bumpers and buyin this in the end, but, heck, they're cheap enough to experiment with if you want. I assure you, though, Apple's attention to detail really shines on this product. It's a perfect fit. The buttons look and feel great. I didn't have to use a knife to get the silence switch hole to fit my 4S. You can really buy this case and not worry about it anymore. Do yourself a favor and just buy this one to begin with! Hope this helps.

    Dirty!

    • Written by from Bowie

I enjoyed the bumper for about a week. It becomes discolored very easily. A few times in the back pocket of your jeans and it's done. Now the soft rubber part is starting to peel off. I would love this product if it was constructed better.

    Only supports apple headphones

    • Written by from austin

This case, as attractive as it may look, will protect your phone to an extent, but if you are a music lover like I am (my main selling point of the phone), you want a case that supports all kinds of headphones. Unfortunately, this case only supports the white headphones apple provides, which is rather counterproductive considering the change from the first model of the iPhone, to the second which provided a flush headphone jack allowing you to use any kind of headphones. I would recommend this case people who only use apple headphones. Otherwise, I would advise you to look at other cases.

    great product only if...

    • Written by from Meadville

you want to have a minimum protection instead of bulky rubber or silicon phone case. I just got this bumper immediately after I bought white iPhone 4. I wanted to preserve the beauty of white phone so the bumper was a perfect choice. The rubber edge fits nicely when the phone is held by a hand; no awkward feeling, just right.

The biggest problem was that the phone with the bumper accepts only genuine Apple charge cable. I had a car charger for my previous 3G model but the non-Apple charge cable did not fit when the phone is installed with the bumper. Eventually I had to buy a USB cigar socket adapter to use the Apple charge cable.

Installation is a breeze; just push and snag on to the phone. It's done.

Very Happy! You prevent Scratching antenna!

    • Written by from Chattanooga

I bought the white bumper for my iPhone 4. I read every review about how it scratches the stainless steel antenna, but I got it anyway. I figured that if I knew it could do that, I would prevent it. I lined the antenna with very thin tape, and it has not scratch my antenna at all!

The bumper fit PERFECTLY over it. It's snug, and it feels great in your hand. It's grippy, but not too grippy where it would be hard to slide in and out of your pocket. The metal buttons look so good on it. The 30 pin connector opening is perfect for syncing without having to take the bumper on and off. The bumper is not obstructive, but it's thick enough to block the iPhone glass from resting on a table when you set it down, thus keeping it from scratching.

I also have the zagg invisible shield, and it does not interfere with the bumper. The Bumper fits perfectly around it. I recommend getting both for maximum protection.

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this product. If you don't want to cover up your gorgeous new iPhone, this is the perfect case! With the Invisible Shield and the Bumper, your iPhone will stay Brand new if you ever take them off! Hope this review is helpful.

Turns off an iPhone 4 / changes the volume unexpectedly

    • Written by from LOS ALTOS

When I bought my white iPhone 4 in, May 2011, I got a white iPhone 4 bumper to go with it. It looked awesome and the bumper worked perfectly—loved it—five stars (then).

Even though the white gradually rubbed off the rubber flanges and the flanges turned a putty-gray color, I loved the ease of handling of the iPhone using the bumper—pulling it out of my pocket, keeping it from slipping out of my hands, taking the hit on the corners when I dropped it, etc.

I rarely took the bumper on or off—no need to—but after 15 months a couple of the bumper's hard plastic corners were dinged up from dropping it and the rubber flanges were starting to get a little chewed up from daily use. No problem; the bumper did exactly what it was supposed to do.

So, around July 2012 I go in to buy another white bumper thinking it's exactly the same design, but it's not. It's still called the iPhone 4 bumper but it's been redesigned, to "fit all iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 models." Whatever. Clearly the design has changed because the new bumper's buttons don't match the iPhone 4 sleep/wake and volume control buttons anymore.

Now, more often than not, whenever I pick up my iPhone 4 the bumper starts pressing the sleep/wake button or changing the volume even though I've not depressed the buttons but am holding the bumper from the top and bottom or by the sides, respectively. One star (now).

    Scratches the Metal Band

    • Written by from Mercer Island

This is a horrible product. First off, the rubber siding wears quickly and ends up all scratched and discolored. But more importantly, dirt easily collects inside the bumper and scratches the stainless steel band. All of my friends with bumpers have this problem too. Now that it is not free, DO NOT BUY THE BUMPER!
