    Buy Black

    • Written by from Rock Hill

So I bought a black bumper on Day 1 when I bought my iPhone 4 and really liked the bumper. After the free case program though, EVERYBODY has the black bumper, so I wanted to differentiate myself. So I bought the white bumper thinking it was the exact same, just white.

I was wrong. One of the things that most people HATE about the black bumper is that the "front" and "back" of the bumper (relative to the phone) is "grippy". I happen to love that it is so. It is sort of a pain to get out of my jeans pocket, but in every other situation, the grippyness works out in my favor. If I have it on a table, or it my car, or on any surface it stays put.

The white bumper does NOT have these "grippy" rubber sides, like my black one does. I don't know if this is indicative of all the colored bumpers or all of the bumpers now, but I am returning my white one and sticking with my black one.

    Fell apart

    • Written by from ROUND ROCK

Mine did a nice job but Apple needs to develop soft yet more durable rubber because after 9 months the rubber broke up and separated from the plastic sides. I was forced to discard the bumper and then opt for another branded sides and back case. I enjoyed this bumper but for $29 I feel it should have lasted longer.

Gets very very dirty and is impossible to clean

    • Written by from Hillsborough

The design is magnificent, but the longevity of the product is very suspect. I tried everything: magic eraser, soap. alcohol, even washing the bumper in the dishwasher, yet this product retains black smudges around the circumference. I gave up after going through two. The rubberized white simply gets too too dirty.

    Broken iPhone

    • Written by from vilonia

The week I purchased this bumper, I dropped my iphone on accident (with the bumper on) , picked it up and the back is shattered. Apple doesn't cover this "mistake".. so I'm left with a broken phone, thanks.

    BUMPER SCRATCHES YOUR ALUMINUM BAND!!!

    • Written by from Mississauga

I love my white iPhone 4 bumper, it looks real pretty on my black iPhone 4. However, after using it for about two weeks and when I took off the bumper for cleaning, there were big deep scratches on the aluminum band around my brand new iPhone 4. I was very angry about this, because before I had the Belkin case which protected my phone really well but looks stupid and bulky, so I decided to give the bumper a shot.

Anyway, if you're think of buying a case for your new iPhone 4, unless the aluminum band is already scratched badly, then go with something else. Don't make the same mistake twice.

    Looks great, scratches metal band

    • Written by from Everett

Love the look of it, but it scratches the metal band. Whether the case itself does it or dirt and dust get between it and the phone which causes it, doesn't matter. The case works excellent but it has decreased the resale value of the phone because of this.

The rubber edge does turn a bit grey, but it doesn't look bad.

I've had the black bumper, too, and they will save your phone from a drop in most cases.

    Only Good in Black

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

The first bumper I got was free and the only issue I had with it was that my Griffin car charger would not fit while the bumper was on. I then purchased a white one and a blue one and they became filthy after 2 weeks. Buyer beware.

    100% Scratchy

    • Written by from DEER PARK

This bumper would have been best if the corners did have robber protection. It scratched my iPhone within a week. I am really disappointed on apple. The edge of the bumper is sharp plastic & doesn't have robber protection & unbelievely true it sctrached the apple said 5 times stronger steel even. I quit wearing it on my iPhone. But despite the scratch issue it gave a nice look & protection to my iPhone 4 while i used it. Now i am really worrying about the protection issue. I don't have any option good which could keep the best look & protection while using the iPhone from drop off, neither i can use the apple bumper as it started scratching my phone. I wish i could have got my $30 back.

    Helps reception but scuffs metal

    • Written by from Regina

I really like the look of the bumper (although I now wish I had bought black!), and it really helps decrease the issues I have with losing coverage when I touch the metal. It helps give you a good grip on the phone if you're paranoid about dropping the phone, like I am. However, the other reviews mentioned that it was making marks on the metal band around the phone, and I can verify that it's true. There are scuff marks all around the metal band now on my phone. Not a huge issue, but if you are concerned about things like that you might want to avoid this product.

bumper breaks with just a couple of months!!!

    • Written by from west covina

i got the black bumper which by the way it did not help my reception, however the bumper's aux port does not allow you to plug in your auxiliary cable which forces you to remove the bumper each time!!! big hassle, then the bumper cracks within 2 months!!!!!

    First 4-5 Weeks = Awesome

    • Written by from Sainte Genevieve

The style and appearance you get with a new white bumper on a black iPhone is pretty slick... However, after about 4 weeks of usage the rubber pieces began to darken. By the 5th week, the rubber edges became this nasty brown color. Very similar to the MacBook top case discoloration issue.

It was so bad I had to replace the bumper after short use... Went back to a black bumper.

    attractive, but flawed

    • Written by from Vancouver

I bought the white Apple-brand bumper case and the protective anti-glare screen after I pre-ordered the VZW iPhone 4 (since it was the only Verizon-compatible case available in the Apple store at the time). I wanted to have a case immediately when the phone arrived on the 7th, so I could use a protected phone ASAP. After the phone arrived I put the anti-glare film on which was and still is great, and then the bumper case. Though the Otterbox case was recommended by several friends, it was not available until the 10th and I did not want to wait or risk not having a case immediately, which I later ended up needing.

Given the situation I am pleased with my purchase, however I would not recommend the bumper case to you.

PROS: I really like the look and feel of the case. White edges with the black front (phone in standby mode) and back (actual phone) really stands out and looks sharp. I also have no issues taking it in/out of jean pockets and it generally protects the corners/edges from wear. Buttons also look/work great.

CONS: First, the gap at the bottom for the USB connector is designed to be used ONLY with the apple-brand connector cord. Its not an issue if thats all you use, but I have to actually remove the case every time I want to plug my phone into my car's aftermarket iPod adapter, which is REALLY annoying and inconvenient. Second, I actually dropped my phone once already (fell out of a shirt pocket) from about 1-2 ft up onto a linoleum kitchen floor. After examining my phone, I had no scratches/marks on the front or back of the phone which was awesome, however I then found a slight (but permanent) dent in the plastic rim on the back side of the bumper case. I then took the case off completely to check under the dent, and found a slight scratch/dent in the metal edge of the actual phone. Though annoying to already damage my new 2-day-old phone UNDER the "protective" bumper, it would have been worse without nothing. Without a case it would have been worse Im sure.

Overall, nice looking and generally functional case, but with poor wear and tear protection and durability, and the issues with having to remove the case to use any sort of aftermarket iPod connector, I will again be spending money on a more protective and functional case soon!

    Grey, not white

    • Written by from PLANO

The outer rim is white hard plastic. But the edges of the front and back that wrap around the glass, the part you actually see when you use your phone, turns dingy grey and deteriorates quite quickly.

    Not worth the money!!

    • Written by from London

Considering I bought this item for £26 (approx. $40) I would expect it to last at least for a year? Is that unreasonable? After few days of usage, my beatiful sky blue bumper case is dirty and rubber around it looks yellow and old. Disguisting, It doesn't come off with anything! Anybody on this page claiming that it stays lovely and clean no matter where you put it - well I am sure you work for Apple so stop telling people lies! The only safe option is to buy a black one. No worth the money, go to your local mobile phone store, get a basic one for £4 and you'll be a happy person.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from WHITE BEAR LAKE

I've had two of these bumpers. One white and the other green. They look great for about 2 months then the edges show dirty smudges. I've tried numerous cleaning products with no luck. Its great for solving the antenna problem, but I can't stand the dirty edges. I'm going to buy a third party case. Very disappointed in this Apple product.

    Bad discolouration.

    • Written by from Oakville

I bought the white hoping for a clean look with my black iPhone 4. Within months, the rubber portion of the bumper was a dull dingy yellow-gray. Really gross. Apple's bumper cases are nicely designed, but i'm not sure they're worth the 30 bucks. If you do choose to buy one, get anything but white.

    Very pretty! At first...

    • Written by from Sacramento

Paid a lot more than I usually would for this bumper since it's just a bumper and you can find others way cheaper on amazon...however it looked so nice on my white phone I thought why not? Well after only four days the gray rubberish part is already dark blue from being inside my purse/sitting on my jeans. Really? I'm wondering if I can return it because it looks horrid. I would not recommend the white. Black's your best bet.
