The outer rim is white hard plastic. But the edges of the front and back that wrap around the glass, the part you actually see when you use your phone, turns dingy grey and deteriorates quite quickly.

I bought the white hoping for a clean look with my black iPhone 4. Within months, the rubber portion of the bumper was a dull dingy yellow-gray. Really gross. Apple's bumper cases are nicely designed, but i'm not sure they're worth the 30 bucks. If you do choose to buy one, get anything but white.

The style and appearance you get with a new white bumper on a black iPhone is pretty slick... However, after about 4 weeks of usage the rubber pieces began to darken. By the 5th week, the rubber edges became this nasty brown color. Very similar to the MacBook top case discoloration issue.

It was so bad I had to replace the bumper after short use... Went back to a black bumper.

Love the look of it, but it scratches the metal band. Whether the case itself does it or dirt and dust get between it and the phone which causes it, doesn't matter. The case works excellent but it has decreased the resale value of the phone because of this.

The rubber edge does turn a bit grey, but it doesn't look bad.

I've had the black bumper, too, and they will save your phone from a drop in most cases.

the actual design, of the 'lay on table' design, is amazing, and the look of it, plus the ability to show off the sexyness of the back, and front glass of the iphone 4, it truly is the best case if you like your iphone to look how it should, but the white looked amazing for a few days, until the grey rubber got extremely dirty and even ripped, im going to return it and buy the black, because i love the actual look and design, but black wont show dirt :)

After wearing blue jeans once, the gray rubber parts of the bumper picked up blue coloration. The jeans are older, so it's surprising that the bumper picked up the color, and I can't seem to get it off. I was also disappointed that my car's iPhone port doesn't fit with the bumper on. The clean white bumper looked great initially, but after two weeks I regret purchasing it.

The first bumper I got was free and the only issue I had with it was that my Griffin car charger would not fit while the bumper was on. I then purchased a white one and a blue one and they became filthy after 2 weeks. Buyer beware.

I've had two of these bumpers. One white and the other green. They look great for about 2 months then the edges show dirty smudges. I've tried numerous cleaning products with no luck. Its great for solving the antenna problem, but I can't stand the dirty edges. I'm going to buy a third party case. Very disappointed in this Apple product.

I bought the white Apple-brand bumper case and the protective anti-glare screen after I pre-ordered the VZW iPhone 4 (since it was the only Verizon-compatible case available in the Apple store at the time). I wanted to have a case immediately when the phone arrived on the 7th, so I could use a protected phone ASAP. After the phone arrived I put the anti-glare film on which was and still is great, and then the bumper case. Though the Otterbox case was recommended by several friends, it was not available until the 10th and I did not want to wait or risk not having a case immediately, which I later ended up needing.

Given the situation I am pleased with my purchase, however I would not recommend the bumper case to you.

PROS: I really like the look and feel of the case. White edges with the black front (phone in standby mode) and back (actual phone) really stands out and looks sharp. I also have no issues taking it in/out of jean pockets and it generally protects the corners/edges from wear. Buttons also look/work great.

CONS: First, the gap at the bottom for the USB connector is designed to be used ONLY with the apple-brand connector cord. Its not an issue if thats all you use, but I have to actually remove the case every time I want to plug my phone into my car's aftermarket iPod adapter, which is REALLY annoying and inconvenient. Second, I actually dropped my phone once already (fell out of a shirt pocket) from about 1-2 ft up onto a linoleum kitchen floor. After examining my phone, I had no scratches/marks on the front or back of the phone which was awesome, however I then found a slight (but permanent) dent in the plastic rim on the back side of the bumper case. I then took the case off completely to check under the dent, and found a slight scratch/dent in the metal edge of the actual phone. Though annoying to already damage my new 2-day-old phone UNDER the "protective" bumper, it would have been worse without nothing. Without a case it would have been worse Im sure.

Overall, nice looking and generally functional case, but with poor wear and tear protection and durability, and the issues with having to remove the case to use any sort of aftermarket iPod connector, I will again be spending money on a more protective and functional case soon!
