    Leopard-Buyer BEWARE

    • Written by from Coos Bay

When my iMac was running on OS X, the whole thing worked as it was supposed to, including the built-in camera. But I wanted to Skype with my granddaughter 2,000 miles away. Skype needed more than OS X could provide so I bought Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard needed twice as much memory as my iMac had so I bought more memory and installed it and installed Snow Leopard.

Immediately after I installed Snow Leopard, my built-in camera became invisible to my iMac. The iMac just tells me that no camera is attached. And no one at Apple Support seems to know that this is a problem with Snow Leopard.

    Watch it; this "cat" scratches!

Hang on to this version-avoid Lion!

    • Written by from WINCHESTER

This has been the best by far of the Apple server software. I love it. Last month I upgraded the law firm to Lion Server- and felt like I was eaten alive. Stay with this 10.6 version - excellent product, does everything easily, simply and perfectly, just like a Mac should do. Lion is like going back to Dell in 2004...and because I upgraded the Mac Pro Server hardware - I cannot undo the Lion. Don't make my error - stay the course with this one!

    Simple, fast, elegant

    • Written by from Morristown

This is the perfect server solution for just about anyone - from the normal consumer to the advanced IT guy. It has an endless amount of features that are well worth the price you're paying. It works on any old Mac you have laying around that runs Snow Leopard, so it's a great way to put use into your old computer or new one. Lastly, I use a majority of the features in this product that come built in (MySQL, QTSS, Server Admin, etc) and these features completely disappear (well, except Server Admin which has been greatly watered down to the point where you have little control over the server) in Lion Server, so this is your last best bet at buying a good Macintosh Server that both works well and allows you to have a lot of control over it. Snow Leopard Server is the best.

    Print Share & Stability Issues

    • Written by from Paso Robles

Chose OS X Server for a home server after struggling with a NAS that never worked right. The server component seems to work fine, but am having various issues compared to OS X 10.5. Most troubling - can't get printer to share. This was a no brainer on OS X 10.5, but so far impossible on 10.6. Also, MS Office (especially Entourage) keeps displaying strange error messages (yes, I rebuilt the database) and locking up. Various apps also seem to momentarily hang up, and iTunes is having photo sync issues with AppleTV. Not sure if these are issues with the Server version or Snow Leopard in general - a friend says the non-server version has made many apps unstable as well. Hmm… wish I could downgrade to 10.5, but of course Intel processors require 10.6. Am getting irritated by the accumulation of small (and some large) issues.

    EXPENSIVE???!

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. Available in 64-bit only. Includes 5 CALs Client Access Licenses (User or Device, chosen after purchase). $1029!!

Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard. Unlimited Client License. $499!!

You be the judge: is ST on to something, or is ST simply on something?

I am disappointed and disgusted that I had to update to use the ical

    • Written by from Chagrin Falls

    1. WORD 2011 will not open.
    2. documents cannot be opened unless WORD 2008 is already open.
    3. Dreamweaver 2004 (which I use to update my website) will not open. Does this mean I have to spend another $1000 to upgrade to CS5?
    4. I don't see much of a change in the calendar.
AND I hate the fact that folder in my DOC opens with icons and I have to scroll down to open something in the Finder. The descriptions of the icons is not complete enough to read. This was also a problem for me in Leopard 10.5

Does anyone else have these problems? and Does anyone have answers? before I have to call for help?

The most complete and doable service management

    • Written by from Philomath

After having put together hundreds of servers and services from scratch, from kernel fine tuning to security implementations and up keeping, to designing file systems to scale up in past experiences, this is the best modern solution ever released. Only limited by the type of hardware one deploys this on. You can't go wrong here.

    good but expensive

    • Written by from Erie

I think that snow leopard is fast and extremely stable but doesn't come at a good price. I've had this for about a year or more now and I've newer experienced any sort of problems of any kind, its the most reliable os system I've used and trust me, I've used xubuntu, ubuntu, mint, XP, Vista, windows 2000, 7... Its the best out there. One major draw back is that it is very expensive and I think that if apple made it cheeper they would make much customers. I'd say for the price, you should go get a new mac mini that comes with this os at exactly the same price. Over all, this is the best it gets and remember no computer company is perfect!( i would rate this 4 4/3 stars if I could.

this is the best OS i have seen to date. it is so much faster. I thought i would lose more space but instead i gained about 20 GB. Its much more simpler, faster, and has more to it than anything else. Works great on my 13-inch macbook.

    Great Server

This is by far the best server software for Mac systems. It is super fast and it gets the work done. I love the new server iCal app. All small businesses should own Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard!
