    Finally a great charger!

I had the old macbook pro (2009) that came with the old charger. I've never had problems with the charger at all other then if I were to use it on my lap then the charger would be disconnected from the computer. With this charger that is no longer the case.

I now have the new macbook pro and it came with the new charger and there isn't anything bad i can say about it so far. If you're looking for a charger that will work with the macbook and macbook pro this is the best choice. Somehow the charger can regulate down the amount of charge it's putting through to the computer so it's able to be used for both models. The overall look of this charger is pretty amazing. Before having a cheap looking white plug going into a all aluminum macbook looked stupid. With the new aluminum magsafe plug it looks a lot better when plugged in.

Overall i think this is a great upgrade for anyone looking for a new charger and for anyone who has had problems with the old model.

I haven't had mine long enough to see if it is an improvement over the older 85W MagSafe Power Adapter, but I just ordered one of the older adapters because this one keeps popping out and causing my MBP to use battery when it is in my InCase hardshell case. Until InCase redesigns their case to accomodate the new adapter, people might want to be aware of this incompatibility.

When not in the case, the new adapter seems to be all it is advertised to be. I say "seems to be" because I haven't had it long enough to know if it will have a longer average lifespan than the older model. So far I see no reason not to give it five stars.

Excellent, Solid Product That Does What it is Supposed to do

I have a pre-unibody macbook pro and after 3 years, the original power cord frayed and broke. I know why it did, too. I was constantly lifting and letting the main box up and down via the box to computer side cord. For those of you reviewing this product poorly because it is breaking, take a look at how you handle it. The proof is in the pudding and nothing stands up to abuse over time. I was a little confused about the reviews that said it wouldn't work on pre-unibody macbook pros but after a quick search on the web I found out it was simply a firmware issue and just a quick download and install had it up and running properly.

Also, for those of you who are wondering whether it will work to get your laptop up and running if completely out of battery power after your original cord broke, don't worry; it still provides the juice to get you going so you can install the firmware. I'm pretty sure the firmware just helps read the battery charge level because pre-firmware install the 'time remaining to charge' indicator just sat at -20.00 hrs and didn't move from there.

So don't worry about compatibility and all the other negative reviews; this product does exactly what it is supposed to do and contrary to seeming popular belief it is very well made.

    Works great with Macbook Too!

The new power adaptor is great. It is much slimmer than the last power adaptor both at the magsafe end and at the charging block. The 85W will step itself down if you use this on a macbook so it can be used on BOTH the macbook and macbook pro models. Buying this can give you a charger for both if you wish to budget or if you have both and do not wish to have the power adaptor be tied to a specific laptop. Overall a great product.

I've owned a few MacBooks and MBPs over the last 5 years. My current MBP is a mid-2010 Core i5. I'm not entirely sure what all the bad reviews about the charger are stemming from. I've used the charger for this MBP and the others everyday and never had a problem. Each day, I unplug the charger, wrap the cord around the flip out prongs, tote it to work in a bag, set it all back up at work, take it down at the end of the day, tote it home, and set it back up. I've never had a power adapter or cord issue with any power adaptor in 5 years! I think the people with the bad reviews either: 1) received a lemon that is an exception to the rule, or 2) are abusing the product. I feel my use is above average, but I'm mindful not to yank the cord in all crazy directions. I think you'll like the product so long as you take care of it.

I am very satisfied with this new model that came with my i5 Macbook Pro. The new cord is noticeably harder than the old ones and the new plug design is very convenient when using the laptop on the sofa.

    Pro:
    -Harder Cord
-No more green light turning off by itself (Present in all 3 of the old ones I have)
-No more "hiss" sound from the adapter (Present in all 3 of the old ones I have)

    Con:
    -Price
-Stop charging extra for the extension cord.

I purchassed the 85-watt version, even though I own a 2006 Core Duo MacBook. Adapter is very nice and feels very solid. It has no problems connecting securely to the power port on my laptop(Some reviewers complained about it not working with older MacBooks, but I have not had any problems so far.) Somewhere I read that it didn't come with the long power cord, but I found that it does come with both the standard direct plug-in and the extension cord. I would definitely buy again.

I own a late 2008 MBP and this is a much better replacement or spare. With the new port adapter design it makes my MBP look better - holds in place better too! I highly recommend it.

My old power adapter failed and ceased providing power to my 2007 MacBook Pro. The new Powersafe Power Adapter works very well and looks great. I was worried after reading some of the cons, however I am pleased to report that the adapter is indeed backward compatible.

    Hi -

I've had mine for a year and it's fine. In fact, I'm logged on so that I can buy a secon one to take on the road with me.

I would like to heed the warnings but that has not been my experience and I really don't see an alternative.

    Thanks-

I own both the earlier adaptor and current one. I can see others' objections but, for me, the new design not only looks nicer and is more streamlined but it works better with how I use my computer. It faces toward the outlet and when I lift my computer toward me or place it on my lap, the adaptor's lip no longer detaches from my computer. Ironically, it also releases easier (just flip it off from the back). Love it!

Works for 2008 17-inch MacBook Pro

This is a more clean cut power adapter than older versions. My old power adapter had the cable shielding that ran to the Mac pull away from the base. I bought a new one thinking it would be an easy replacement... It did not work until I got onto the support site and found a review of the power adapter by "LM."

LM stated in an earlier review the following in order to get older MacBook Pros to work with this Power adapter:

"okay, flip it over, take battery out .. hold power button in for 10 seconds.. then put battery back in.. then plug in new charger! i bought new charger for my old model and it worked once then crapped out. took it to an apple store with computer at hand and a young tech did this for me. old heads had no idea about that trick. it def. worked for me. seriously try it.

Don't believe anybody who tells you it won't fit - it does! I went in to the Apple store because I didn't want to buy this cable without know if it would work or not. They told me enthusiastically that it would definitely work for my 2007 MBP 15-inch and they were right! Thanks Matt (Genius) from the Green Hills Nashville Apple Store!

Had a 4-month-old, old style power supply that failed after it frayed. I walk into an Apple Store with my old power supply expecting a fight over the quality of the old product. Instead, the sales associate grabbed a new power supply, apologized for the problems with the old power supplies and sent me on my way with this new product free of charge.

Not only is the actual cable much studier than the old model, but the mag-safe connector fits perfectly into my mid-2007 MBP. The adapter is much harder to accidentally knock out of the computer but still pulls away when the cable is tripped over by an person or pet, avoiding disaster when working close to a surface edge.

After going through two of the old style adapters in less than three years, I'm happy that Apple finally took notice and greatly improved the product.

I read all of the reviews and was skeptical about purchasing this one @ $79. I must say I have been pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Now includes an additional heavy duty cord to extend the length of the charging for home/office charging. Or you can choose to use the original box with flip plug for traveling. Love the new adaptor that attaches to the magnet of the computer. I broke my old charger when I ripped a prong out of it so it would no longer charge. With the new version, you don't have to use the flip prongs, you just attach the heavy duty charging cord!! Yay!! Way to go Apple...
