    Pathetic

Has it come to this? Considering the number of years that the MagSafe power cords have been around, it is hard to believe that these cords are not engineered to the high standard we have come to expect from Apple. I came onto the review site after seeing the MagSafe had 2 stars - at least 1 too many. Maybe this review will get the product below 2 stars where it belongs. PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM APPLE!!

We're got so many bad power cords it's insane - they should install a pneumatic tube from us directly to the nearest Apple store we return these so often.

    poorly made junk

This charger is junk. The first one for my MBP 15inch lasted 13 months. The second at 90 dollars (Australia) lasted not even 2 months. It is not getting extreme use, it changes between 2 plugs in my flat and does even leave the flat as i do not travel with my macbook. This is unacceptable.
it costs 80-90 dollars, the laptop itself cost 3k. This component should not be failing so soon. Apple produces one or two good looking items, but the quality of some components are junk and it putting me off buying their products in future.
I have a 6 year old Sony Viao that's traveled round the world and bashed around, and not needed anything replaced on it. This is poor apple.

Very displeased with my power cord adapter. This is the second time it fails on my second computer. Dear Apple i beg to please fix this problem. I don't want to go around spending $79 on a new adapter every time it breaks. Please!!!

    Disappointment

As much as I love my MacBook, Apple has to have a solution for the flimsy power cord! Or make the flimsy part replaceable, instead of having to buy the entire power adapter repeatedly.
When they did away with the barrel connector, I thought they'd finally come up with the answer - then instead of the thin aluminum barrel bending and tearing, the tiny cord at the connector started breaking on the first magnetic plug. So, apple came up with the streamline cord and magnetic - problem solved??? NO! Each one has had a flawed transition area, where the tiny cord connects. It's the cord!!!
This is my third Mac laptop and countless adapters - and the cord is the only complaint I've ever had. I love MAC, but they've got to come up with an alternative, that doesn't cost $79.00 every time the cord fails!

Have had two of these junk out in less than a year each. It's like they were designed to be faulty. Both due to shorts in the small cable. Wire gauge is cheap inside. What a sham.

How does it go? "Only the good die young?"

It's beautiful, and the magsafe feature has saved my laptop a time or two. It just dies long before the laptop does.

My earlier magsafe adapter had to be replaced (on an older macbook) because the sharp edges of the little "wings" you use to wrap up the cord eventually cut through the skimpy coating, causing it to fail. Well, when I bought my new macbook pro, I stopped using the wings on this adapter, so it seemed great. Until one day I went to connect the power cord to the laptop, and - NOTHING. Finally I got the connection by wiggling it around. Turns out the problem with the connection is definitely NOT with the mag-safe end of the adapter, but with the connection between the wire and the metal end piece. After having to wiggle the cord longer and longer each time I plug it in to get my laptop to charge, I now cannot get any charge to pass through this cord. I have about an hour of use on my laptop until I either need to hit an Apple store. Of course, I can't - I needed my laptop tonight to work on a big project that is due to be presented at work tomorrow morning. So not only am I completely irritated at the quality of this power cord, but now I'm having to scramble around to figure out how to finish. But it's worth the catharsis in this struggle to spend 5 minutes of that time writing this review. I want to love you Apple, but your POWER CORDS STINK.

The "Magsafe" idea really saved my bacon on my 15" MBP. The break-away design keeps it from being ripped off a table. Very happy with that. So far, no issues. I've had the powerlight turn off once or twice on its own but I found out why it was doing it, do a search for article TS3499 on the Apple support board.

I reset the power cord by unplugging it for a minute or two and it never shut off again. So far, so good. :)

Same MagSafe power supply for 4 years

You people that diss the product because you're clumsy or treat it like an anvil need to show respect for the hardware. I've had the same MagSafe that CAME with my MacBook Pro for 4 years. Under NORMAL wear and tear, it will last you a LONG time. Tripping on, yanking it, winding around your hand etc is NOT normal wear and tear.
Treat it like if you break it you're screwed and it will last a long time.

I have only had this cord for 7 months and it frayed so badly it started sparking and then stopped working. I don't have money to waste on this every 7 months. I would think they would be under warrenty for at least a year but I guess I am out more money I don't have. GREAT!!

Mac's are great. I love my Macbook Pro. However, I am sick and tired for almost ten years of MagSafe having to replace these things every few months. I am tired of the exposed wires, shorts, and over all bad construction. If Apple cared they would fix this. However, it's a computer and not the iPhone so I don't have high hopes of them doing anything at all. Much less do the right thing and replace them for all of us that have these stupid things fail every year.

I bought this cord last year and the surrounding rubber pulls away from the magnetic adapter. Did not last very long, and given the price, it should last for a lot longer.

In 3 years I have had 5 of these chargers. One lasted three months. The wires fray around the charging connection very quickly. Since replacements are no longer covered under my exired Applecare warranty I have the whole thing encased in black electrical tape. Way to go Apple, not.

The ONE little area that Apple skimps!!!

    • Written by from Acworth

10 of 10 people found this useful

I am a huge Apple fan. Have purchased multiple Macbook's, iPods and iPhones from them through out the years.

Yet this is the ONE AREA time and time again where they skimp! It's really frustrating that these pathetic cords last only a few months. I continually have to replace them because they twist in odd knots and the rubber is very cheap and thin to where the wiring pops out through slits.

I wish Apple would have spent a little more time on this one area that has been overlooked. I wish they would make their power-cords just as durable and long lasting as the rest of the products they are known and loved for!

    One of these days!.....

This ole Georgia boy is keepin his fingers crossed!

This should be rated zero stars. As many of the other reviewers have said, the wire frays and breaks inside the magnetic jack. After all this hype of great engineering, Apple can't make a proper power chord? What a rip off! I won't be buying Apple products again.
