    Useless to the business person

This is useless if you want to show business documents or presentations in powerpoint. Huge dissapointment.

    Stay away

I too bought this with the expectations that it would display the ipad screen on a projector or lcd. The limitations should really be a part of the product description.

    Disappointment in action

    • Written by from Tampa

I bought this adapter in order to project .ppt presentations in a business situation from my iPad. The projector is not recognized by the iPad and can get no image to project. After reading the other reviews it seems to be a very common objection. I would not have bought if I was aware of its limitations.

    DO NOT BUY.

    • Written by from Costa Mesa

The only reason I even gave it one star was because it works for some apps, but not all. It can't show real time what you have on your iPad screen, and you can't play movies that you bought from iTunes on it. Pictures can only be shown in slideshow format, and it can't have any fancy transitions. Doesn't work the way it's described. Not a lot of apps that work well with it, and as a salesperson that does a lot of presentations via powerpoint, I have yet to find an app that does a better job at projecting a powerpoint presentation than my laptop. The iPad apps don't display the ppt files correctly and converting it to pdf as suggested in some websites doesn't make it look any better or work better at all. A big disappointment. Just make it so that it show everything I see on my iPad screen and it would be great. Limited use with limited apps... RIP OFF. DO NOT BUY.

Should have read the reviews first.

    • Written by from YORKTOWN HEIGHTS

I like most purchased this before reading the reviews and doing my homework. I wouldn't think after launching such an awesome product in the iPad that they would allow such useless peripheral to be sold. As with most users, I intended to use this for presentations only to find out you can't. I haven't returned yet in the hopes the people at Apple actually read these reviews and do the right thing and make immediate improvements for all us that dropped the $$

    Big disappointment

    • Written by

As many others have noted, the VGA adapter only works to send photos from slide shows and movies to the external monitor. Too bad I didn't read those reviews before I bought one. Fortunately, I was able to return it the next day as son as I found out what little it can do. Maybe I'll buy it again if enough apps provide external monitor support. Seems like the iPad OS ought to provide mirroring right out of the box and leave fancy external-monitor set-ups to the app developers who want different things on external monitors.

iPad VGA connector worst Apple product I've ever purchased

    • Written by from Hamden

As a loyal and extremely satisfied Apple customer since my first Mac SE/30, this is by far the worst Apple product I've purchased. The description is dreadfully incomplete and the functionality is minimal (and pricey). Simply put, by design, it seldom works. It does not mirror the screen, as one would expect, and it doesn't work with most applications, even many made by Apple (ie., Pages and Safari). Don't waste your time or money. I've already initiated a return. What really bugs me is the deception by omission of its limitations in the product description. Whoever designed and deployed this must have worked for Microsoft. It's that bad.

Dock Connector to VGA Adapter doesn't live up!

    • Written by from Scottsdale

Clearly, a more descriptive overview pointing out the limitations of this accessory is warranted. Planned outdoor movie night resulting in running out to purchase the movie on Blu-Ray. Would have applied the funds I spent to purchase the next level up accessory. Almost useless!

    TOO LIMITED

    • Written by from Honolulu

I was very disappointed with the limitations of this connector. It does not play movies, powerpoint presentations, email, web pages, and e-reader apps. I was going to use the iPad this semester to lecture graduate students on educational technology but now, I think i'll switch it up and call it, the limitations of technology in education.

    VGA Adapter Disappointment

    • Written by from SANTA ANA

I should have read the reviews but when I think about it, why is it our job to write accurate product capability in the reviews? The product works intermittently with the dock and not at all without the dock. Why is the dock necessary? I get messages intermittently stating the adapter in not compatible with my iPad. If I unplug from the iPad and reinsert the plug, video out to the VGA device again works but then is interrupted again with the not compatible message. And like others have stated, the VGA capability is tied to the application and is not a selectable option to control as you would a notebook PC. A real disappointment.

    Very limited

    • Written by from Dordrecht

The connector is good but Apple does not allow for much use on the iPad since they make usage app dependent. This means no mirroring of the iPad! Very limited!

    Ridiculous

    • Written by from Port Saint Lucie

Can't believe I wasted money on this. Hooked it up to my TV's VGA input and tried playing several rented and purchased movies I just downloaded from iTunes and it won't allow me to play any of them! "Not authorized" to play movies I just bought? Ridiculous

    Way too limited

    • Written by from Semora

I have not been able to use this once, I can't use it to play iTunes movies That I bought from iTunes. Also even presentations, which I guess is what this is designed for, do not allow me to adjust the resolution making it look terrible on my projector.

Spent a few hours trying to find a use for it, couldn't so I returned it.

Does exactly what the package says

This product connects the iPad to a VGA port. The package doesn't say that anything goes through.

    Very limited use!,,

    • Written by from Orlando

As many have said, it's disappointing to rent or purchase a movie on iTunes, then attach the Vga adapter and get the message "not authorized"!!!!

And yet some podcasts are allowed! Go figure!

In the future I will severely limit my iTunes usage regarding movies!!!!

    Educational Tool?

    • Written by from Ogden

I pre ordered the ipad the day it was available. I bought it because I thought that I could use this VGA adapter to show my students some of the amazing science apps offered. However, the day my ipad came me and 30 students had to huddle around a paper sized device because the VGA connector would not work. Not really useful in a real classroom unless your school has funding to buy each student an ipad and all the apps. I am hopeful that the new OS4 will fix this.

    Disappointed

I have to agree with the majority of reviewers. Yes, buyer beware and do your research and all that, but the draw of Apple technology is that it generally does what you expect it to do how you expect it to do it. It is not clearly stated in the description that only limited apps will work. It's very disingenuous on Apple's part, and I'll probably be returning mine.

Useless - almost no apps support it.

    • Written by from Chicago

The VGA adapter will display nothing unless an app specifically supports displaying something. Apple's own apps generally do not show anything (except that you can watch youtube videos on the projector). You can't show the web browser, or your email, or your pdf files.

This is the biggest ripoff product in Apple's recent history. The value of this adapter is below zero.
