Works Exactly What It Was Made For

I don't know what is wrong with what seems like every other review of this product. To me, it only shows the technological ignorance of the user. This product does exactly what it is supposed to do...WORK! And some posters say you can's use it for business!!! What a joke!! I can travel the world with something as small, think, and powerful as the iPad and plug into any T.V. (worthy of the iPad), or projector and do gorgeous presentations with Keynote that amaze all who view them. This product only enhances the value of the iPad and I would recommend it to ANY person but especially those that need to do high level presentations WHEREVER they may be. PLEASE gain some knowledge of your devices before you post false information on these posts!!!

    Get A Grip

This has got to be one of the most amazing comment threads I've ever read. First, before I read even one review I understood from the description of this product that it was very limited in what it would output. Do people see the picture of the dongle and without reading a word think "golly, this will work just like my laptop/projector".

Its certainly obvious that they don't read the reviews, as these comments have been up here for a month..sheesh.

Although the thought of paying $30 bucks for a $2 part sends shivers up my spine, we've all been doing that for a long long time, have we not? I own 345 phone charges, cables, earphones, usb cords, etc. (that replaced the 345 that I've lost).

Doing some research, one finds that hey...some people are writing some pretty nice API's for the video output of the iPad. By the time my adapter arrived I had already download a GREAT tabbed browser that outputs flawlessly to my screen, I've also download other apps that work equally as well for other functions.

So...get a grip. Read the write-up and if you want to have fun with the iPad on your flatscreen or projector at work, buy the darn thing and be happy happy happy.

WHEN the iPad is finally able to use the adapter to what we all want it to do, everyone who is returning theirs won't be able to get their hands on one because 50 billion people are going to want one. And, I'll have mine. I'll just wait for Apple to develop the software so that it catches up with the hardware. I have faith in Apple........they have the pulse of the masses!

This was exactly what I wanted. I just wanted to be able to play keynote presentations that I made on my iPad at school for class. I don't need to play movies or see everything that I'm doing on my iPad, just keynote for school.

    Works great for university professors

I have read all the reviews before I bought the iPad (and Keynote), and everything works up to my expectations. Rather than having to bring my heavy laptop + power brick (since battery on my MacBook is toast), I simply bring my (comparatively light) iPad and VGA connector. I've tried connections at all my lecture halls before lectures, and have not had any problems at all. Keynote slides don't transfer exactly at originals to the iPad, but I see this as a minor (software) issue, given the many benefits the iPad has given me. My wife and daughter use my MacBook much much more often now that I have the iPad (i.e. less "need" for the MacBook).

Used it today to do a Keynote presentation, connecting to a VGA projector. Worked just fine; clear image on the screen, etc.

    Fantastic with the right App

read the negative reviews, but went ahead and bought the cord. Used with GoodReader and iAnnotate it is FANTASTIC!!
Even easier than using a laptop to give presentations. iAnnotate allows annotations to be written directly on the document/screen, better than a laser pointer.
So easy the executives can do it themselves and we are ordering more.

The adapter works with apps written to enable it to work. I use it primarily to present keynote presentations, and it works great. I love the laser pointer feature. I no longer need to bring my laptop on business trips.

I read what everyone else wrote. They just decided to soon that it did not work but it does!
I downloaded an app called VGA Expedition which mirrors and it is a browser with Bookmarks. I think it was .99 cents. I can see anything and everything with that app while plugged into my projector. Without it you can see videos, movies from Netflix and Keynote presentations. Add the app and you can see anything and everything you want!!

    Does what it says

I hooked the connector up to my vga cord, and hooked that vga cord to my projectors at school. It worked flawlessly.

Most of the negative reviews here are not reviews of this product, but criticisms of the weaknesses in the iPad software. We knew by the time the iPad was released that Keynote, at least, didn't give screen mirroring. We quickly discovered that this ability has to be specifically written into the app by the developer. Anyone who complains about that wasn't paying attention.

But THINK ABOUT IT: you now can carry your presentations on a 1.5 lb computer.

Made me wonder why do I have laptops. Next should be on video projection.
Wish to buy on ITunes Film + Series and then project it wherever.
That's will the ultimate cool (audio as well).

It is so sad to see that we live in a society that people complain about a product, even though said product does exactly what it says it does. Apple never claimed that this would mirror the iPad or iPhone 4, they said you could display movies and slideshows. Guess what? You can view movies and slideshows with this adapter. Just like Apple said it could. The poor ratings of this device are the cause of people not being able to read, or making assumptions about this device. Read carefully people. Don't expect a product to do something that it doesn't list it can do.

    NEGATIVE Five Stars -*-*-*-*-*

A lot of these review are blaming the connector. Its not the connector, it's the iPad! The only app I could get it to work with is Keynote. And then it only works in the Play Slideshow mode. So much for traveling light with a projector and iPad.

Once again, I drank Apple's Koolaid. I have had it with their shiny trinkets. The disappointment with the iPad and now the iPhone 4 have really turned me sour on the company.

Sorry Mr. Jobs. The truth hurts...me and my wallet!

Program authors can make it work

    • Written by from Pacific City

43 of 58 people found this useful

Apple makes an API (interface code) available to App programmers. If they include this API in their program, the VGA Adapter will project that program (not the full screen or the iPad home screen, etc) to a large screen or through a projector. Why it's not universally available I couldn't tell you, but it easy to add this feature to a program. Email the app developers and ask them to add this feature.

    Works perfectly for advertised use

This adapter works perfectly to display Keynote presentations and output from video-enabled apps, as advertised. I don't understand why so many people expected mirroring -- the dock connector has never been capable of mirroring (in fact, Apple has to specially modify the devices used in their presentations with a hardware hack in order to wire the full video out to a projector; those are not off the shelf iPhones and iPads). Please educate yourself before buying a product, and don't slam it for something it never promised to do (and something that's not even physically possible without hardware hacking).
