    OOOOPS!

Had no problems getting this to work, just getting it to stay plugged in to the iPad. The cable keeps disconnecting with the slightest bump. Makes it unusable in a classroom. Why not add that little locking mechanism like the chargers for cell phones have? As it stands, I would give away the one I have for FREE because I really can't use it.

    Product Breaks

I am in a school here, where we use these in the classroom to project. Unfortunately, teachers keep wondering why they can't get theirs to work. Well, the cables look perfect, but something inside them gets loose or jarred, and the connection between the iPad and the VGA breaks.

If this products gets a decent amount of use, it appears to break. For a $30 product, I would hope for a better lifetime on these. May as well be a $10 knockoff if I should expect to replace them quickly.

Don't buy this if you want to watch anything from iTunes. Not supported, was told at the Apple store I could! Looks like they need to do more employee training.

It IS true: iTunes purchased shows won't play over this

Confirmed that on iPad Generation 3, iOS 6.1.3, playing a movie or TV episode purchased from the iTunes store, either via Home Sharing or directly from the device will not work. "Protected content can't be played on this screen."

Any other video program plays back at full screen, and screen mirroring works just fine.

I love Apple. I own stock in Apple. I own lots of its products and don't care how pricey they are because I've received quality commensurate with or greater than the money spent. But this cable is utter garbage. At least they could have told me up front I couldn't show movies I downloaded from iTunes. I really felt let down. I may not abandon Apple products if this happens again, but I'll sure dump the stock.

pops out too easily, needs "teeth" and release buttons

The adapter can easily get disconneted from ipad, it has actually popped out during every conference I have ever used it for (now I don't anymore)

If you want to be able to rely on it and have confidence that it won't pop out at the worst possible moment, the design would need to be changed to make the connection to the device more solid (like my car charger, which has "teeth" that lock the iphone into place, and two buttons to release it).

Works with iOS 6.0 and up

Before anyone else writes that this adapter doesn't work with iOS 6 or higher, please read this:
    1. DO NOT connect the VGA adapter to your apple device until you have done the following.
    2. Connect the VGA cable to the monitor or projector FIRST.
    3. Make sure the monitor or projector is connected to a power source and TURNED ON.
    4. Connect the adapter to the VGA cable.
    5. NOW connect your apple device to the VGA adapter.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing twice and expect to get different results.

I work in a building with multiple projectors and monitors all under two years old, if I plug into a monitor/projector with my HDMI or VGA connector it will work with an iPad 2 still running os5.1 but not an iPad 3 running 6. If it has to go through any kind of control unit, i.e. touch panel, video switcher, etc, chances are it's not going to work. My advice test it out first, try and go directly to the projector/monitor with out going through an audio/visual control system and always have a back up plan, like using a laptop instead.

    This works perfectly!
To Those of you who have had troubles...
MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ THE DESCRIPTION FIRST!!
It clearly states video mirroring is ONLY SUPPORTED WITH IPHONE 4s AND IPAD 2 AND LATER!!! IPHONE 4 and iPad 1 only support VIDEO OUT( slide shows pictures videos, etc)
You can (and my teachers at school do!) use it to showcase apps and everything your device is showing. It simply has to be on an iphone4s or an iPad 2 or later. TRY READING DESCRIPTIONS BEFORE BAGGING ON A PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE, HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT. THANK YOU!!

    Does not work on iPhone4

The specs and packaging clearly state that the adapter will work on iPhone 4 and 4S, but it only works on the 4S model. It is very frustrating to order a product that you think will work on several device models, but ends up only working on one.

It works for my iPad 3

After reading all the negative reviews, I thought it might not do what I needed it to do. But, then I realized that the negative reviews were mostly about older iPads. The product description says that the adapter will allow mirroring of the iPad with the VGA projector. And it does. I will admit that some apps are not quite sure what to do with the mirroring. One pinball game only shows up on the projector and not on the iPad itself. However, most everything I wanted to demonstrate played on the projector and iPad 3 at the same time. So, I believe the mirroring does work.

Used it last night and it worked perfectly. However, I tried to use it again today and it doesn't work. I am very frustrated. I've tried many times to connect it and the tv just doesn't get a signal. I am very frustrated. BTW though the box has a picture on it, it doesn't actually tell you that you're going to need a VGA cable.

This 30 pin adapter works flawlessly with my ipad and projector, the video mirroring is exactly what i thought it would be. Well worth the $35.00. I use it for keynote presentations at school and works just as it should. The piece is not complicated at all, plug it in and within seconds you are connected. Regarding some other reviews stating the devise is not video mirroring, perhaps you are not aware that video mirroring is only available with ipad 2 + and iPhone 4S+. Thanks again apple for making a super simple, easy to use accesories for my ipad!

Using a brand new iPad (4th generation), connecting to a Lightning to 30 pin adapter, for the purposes of projecting on a VGA projector at my office, the iPad Gen 4 returns the message "This Accessory is Not Supported by iPad" Review form would not let me select 0 stars, so I had to give it one star.

    How it works

    • Written by

33 of 35 people found this useful

If you read the item description it says it only works for mirroring on ipad 2+ and iPhone 4s+ so make sure that you have the right device before complaining it doesn't work. I was thinking it would mirror with my ipad 1 but i didn't read carefully enough either and it only works on movies. also if i plug in the screen will be to one side... to fix it all i need to do is unplug and plug in again for it to be adjusted right.
