Really should have read more reviews!

    • Written by from Sterling

I am kicking myself for not looking at the reviews to find out the limitations of this connector. The ability to not be able to mirror the device is ridiculous. At least let me display from Pages and Numbers! Also, I wish Apple would put this information in the overview of the product. Unless I missed it, I couldn't find the official limitations other than a support article.

The Chicken/Egg guy is completely wrong

    • Written by from Madison

On no other device does the developer of each application have to write code which is aware of which display you're using. The only thing that would make sense would be if Apple supported mirroring in iOS without making the developer think about it. They completely screwed this one up. This product is nigh-useless unless you somehow magically know in advance that you won't ever want to project video from anything other than the pre-arranged apps... and why would you ever think that?

Absolutely useless -- save your money

    • Written by from Youngstown

I wish I'd read the many reviews from teachers who indicated that this product does not work. I teach at a university and this cable simply does not do what its $30 price tag suggests. I needed this cable to view web pages on an overhead and basically to show pretty much anything I wanted to show via my iPad -- the $700 "computer" that I bought to use IN THE CLASSROOM. The "iFad" joke from "The Simpsons" is now making much more sense. I still need a laptop to do what I need to do in the classroom, so the Apple iPad is living up to its pop culture image as nothing more than a punchline.

Wasted 6 hours on trying the adaptor on 3 different monitors !!!

Now I see that I was misled on the product.

I wanted to see my photos ... no way ....... only in one limited slide show.
I wanted to use Safari and email ... no way
I wanted to play my music ... no way

    Very disapointed.

    useless most of the time

    • Written by from Innsbruck

while I was aware that only certain formats are supported the web-information at the The page didn't tell that certain projectors and connecting cables do not work. Going back to an Apple support page I found the advice that any connection cables should be removed in case of a problem. How does Apple think I would connect my iPad with a cable a few inches long directly to a ceiling-mounted projector and present with keynote in a lecture or conference hall where I have no control over the settings of the projectors? For this purpose waste of money.

Does exactly what the package says

    • Written by from Ooltewah

This product connects the iPad to a VGA port. The package doesn't say that anything goes through.

    First disappointment ever from Apple

    • Written by from Granite City

I teach at two Universities and all I get from the iPad VGA cable is two blue screens of death. I have a ten+ year old Mac portable that does better than that! This is the first bit of hardware (since my Apple ][) that has not done what it claimed it could. Asking me to get a special cable run from a projector fifty feet away and twenty-five feet up is just not a viable solution!
Fix this Steve while Apple still has a sterling reputation to protect!

    Presentation Fail

    • Written by from Le Roy

Bought this to use with iPad as a traveling keynote presentation solution. The failure to in any way mirror the current and/or next slide on the iPad makes it really difficult to use for serious talks in large rooms (speaker can often not see the screens and doesn't want to look like an idiot turning around all the time). Not recommend until this is resolved.

    Not worth the $30

    • Written by from Columbus

Extremely limited hence over priced. Apple really need to fix this by adding mirroring to the iPad output. If Steve Jobs can project his iPad and iPhone displays, then everyone who pays $30 for this should be able to do the same. This is only fair.

    Can only output slides

    • Written by from Orem

I was very disappointed with this. I was hoping to project more then just slides. So far not a single video file in my library will work because most are purchased with DRM. All were purchased in itunes or included as digital copies from blu-ray purchases. I would love to be able to ouput the browser as well. With such limited functionality, I wish I hadn't purchased it. Hopefully they will update the OS to allow more to be output.

    • Written by from Fruitvale

Don't buy this if you want to watch anything from iTunes. Not supported, was told at the Apple store I could! Looks like they need to do more employee training.

Apple should be ashamed of selling this useless product

    • Written by from Dobbs Ferry

Apple should truly be ashamed of itself for selling this useless product. If I hD the opportunity to give minus stars it woudl be minus six stars. Useless, waste of time. How can Apple do such an irresponsible thing nd put thsi useless accesory to its site? I purchased a film from iTunes store, paid money hoping that I coudl watch the film on big screen TV but the message indicates that "the connected display is not authorized to play protected mpvies". This useless adapter lets you watch the previews without any problem but when you pay for the real deal, it does not work. This is irresponsible at best. I M very disappointed with Apple. By the way, the suppot site is totally useless as well. I could not f ind a single answer to my problem and I coud not contact a held desk place to ask about my problem. This si probably the ast accesory that I'm purchasing dor my iPad and I will spread the wprd in my network that the accesories are totally useless. Thanl you Apple for ruining my new year night I will never forget this night!

This will not enable you to mirror your display. I only wish Apple would be more specific in the item description. I am going to return mine and wait until mirroring is enabled.

Better of Apple to say what it can't do than what it can....

    • Written by from Duluth

I have waited to write this for weeks as I was trying to cool off from my initial RAGE at the obvious misleading that Apple did in regard to this product. Time has only prompted dissapointment in a company i had hoped would be better. No screen mimmicing, not all videos, no safari, not many apps, no email, no books.....not worth it. Unfortunate that i can do all these things (save for apps) on a laptop, but not my oversized iPod Touch.

    Buyer Beware!

    • Written by from Palm Harbor

One star only because I cannot rate it at zero! Yes I buy movies from I tunes. I bought my Ipad 2 from Apple. I bought this adapter from apple. Now the rub! It will allow an I tunes purchased movie to play on your TV for about 20 seconds before it stops it, and gives you a pop up that it will not play on a non compatible device??!!! Not what I read in the description!
Totally Disgusted!!! What now, " you must purchase an Apple TV?!!!
    Do Not Buy It!!!

Like many reviews, the connector is very limited in displaying the end result. Expected to function like any other VGA adapter but was disappointed at its limitations. Hope Apple will do something about it before more people 'distrust' Apple products.

    Just plain wrong

    • Written by from Yonkers

Wow it is very rare that apple gets a product wrong. But when they do they go full bore with it. This product is designed to only allow specific apps to be displayed not just a copy of your screen.
