    Ridiculous

    • Written by from Port Saint Lucie

Can't believe I wasted money on this. Hooked it up to my TV's VGA input and tried playing several rented and purchased movies I just downloaded from iTunes and it won't allow me to play any of them! "Not authorized" to play movies I just bought? Ridiculous

    Misrepresentation by Omission

    • Written by from Malvern

I'm very disappointed in the Adapter I just spent $29 on. I don't expect vendors to un-sell their products, but *landscape use only is the only 'FYI' Apple offers. For someone that's supposed to have a non-MSFT relationship with its partners and customers, I would expect them to be clear that mirroring is not supported. I wonder how much revenue Apple is creating through VGA Adapter sales that is 'shelfware' i.e. bought but not used.

What a truly useless product. Your money would be better spent on a pet rock. If the iPad is so magical then why limit the functionality in such an outrageously stupid way?

Only works with a very limited list of apps, making it almost useless!
Apple should open up software so we can have the same functionality Jobs did in his demo keynote of the iPad!

As an educator, I was extremely disappointed with this connector. I already purchased several apps to project on my board to find out thats not the way this works. this is very aggravating since apple failed to be clear about the limitations, but that seems to be apple's cup of tea. unfortunately apple seems to be relying on their name to sell stuff now instead of producing quality products and being honest about what they are really used for.

    Works with keynote presentations only

    • Written by from Atlanta

Would've been nice to know. Failed me on movie night. Apparently, I'm not authorized to project onto my wall a movie that I just bought on iTunes on my newly purchase iPad. I guess I'll use it in the office when I'm giving presentations that don't require me to move between keynote and other applications.

Photo slideshow output only - no itune movies, only Keynote output and Youtube - this is a useless adapter. Unless mirroring is added - save your money.

Do Not Waste Your Time or Money

    • Written by from Norcross

This is one of the most worthless things I've ever purchased. The main reason I got this was to output Keynote presentations. Guess what? Not supported. DRM'd movies? Not supported. iPad display mirroring? Not supported. 99% of the reason you'd actually want this adapter? Not supported.

I purchased the VGA connector at the time I purchased my iPad because the Apple store salesman said it worked just like connecting your laptop. I feel they sales staff should be clear on the very limited functionality of this product.

ipad dock connector to VGA Adapter

    • Written by from Arlington

What a sorry, useless, limited, crippled, boondoggle. I waited weeks for this adaptor to arrive because I live overseas and had it forwarded. I hoped to use it in a school computer class to demonstrate the ipad capabilities to students.

It won't even show the desktop or any apps!! Only videos and slideshows? Aw come on! Who wants that? Ripoff!! Come on apple. Write your product info more clearly and list the crippling limitations you built in!

That was the last thing the sales person told me after I purchased this over priced, over promised piece of junk. Why didn't the sales person just tell me not to purchase it because it doesn't work?

Waste of time, waste of gas, waste of money. I expect more from Apple,

    The most USELESS product

    • Written by from Kingston Upon Thames

So...the description of this product on the apple website says:

"Use the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter to connect an iPad to your television, projector, or VGA display. Then see your videos and slideshows on the big screen."

Great I think, I can watch my Itunes purchased video's on my monitor...perfect..except no, I get the error 'This device is not authorized to play this content'. So what is the point? Apple, please change the description of this product as it is VERY misleading.

    False advertising!

    • Written by from FARMINGTON HILLS

Although the advertising states that the product will "mirror whatever is on your iPhone or iPad," I found that, in actuality, it only works on a limited number of apps made by Apple itself. For example, although my YouTube app that came with my iPhone projects video onto my TV just fine, most everything else does not project to my TV. Further research on the web indicates that support for video out for third-party (i.e. not Apple) apps is entirely up to the developer, which makes sense but was not what was advertised. I cannot get Safari to work, either, and that is a native Apple app!

    VGA Adapter Disappointment

    • Written by from SANTA ANA

I should have read the reviews but when I think about it, why is it our job to write accurate product capability in the reviews? The product works intermittently with the dock and not at all without the dock. Why is the dock necessary? I get messages intermittently stating the adapter in not compatible with my iPad. If I unplug from the iPad and reinsert the plug, video out to the VGA device again works but then is interrupted again with the not compatible message. And like others have stated, the VGA capability is tied to the application and is not a selectable option to control as you would a notebook PC. A real disappointment.

As many have said, it's disappointing to rent or purchase a movie on iTunes, then attach the Vga adapter and get the message "not authorized"!!!!

And yet some podcasts are allowed! Go figure!

In the future I will severely limit my iTunes usage regarding movies!!!!

    Joke connector

    • Written by from Mansfield Woodhouse

I suppose I should have read the reviews first, so it's my own fault.
I am very, very close to replacing my laptop in external business meetings with the iPad. The final piece of the puzzle would be to view documents, presentations etc on a projector or TV output.
I then find to my annoyance that it only works with a very, very few apps. One of which I need, which is Keynote.
Then I find it doesn't even work with Pages - what a joke!
And how difficult would it be to send the whole desktop to an external source? I quote Apples own website for this item "Use the Apple VGA Adapter to mirror whatever’s on your iPad 2 screen — apps, presentations, websites, and more" Misleading at best.

    nice idea, way to limited

    • Written by from Johnstown

As others have said, its a great little adapter but you are so limited on what you can display its nearly pointless. Keynote will display, the photo album works, 2screens is what I have used to show pdfs and websites. I cant play any of my iTunes digital copies, cant display the desktop or home screen. Safari? No YouTube? No Numbers? Pages? No and No Ibooks? nada. Angry Birds? nope.

Nothing wrong with the adapter, apple has just restricted the apps to much for what ever reason. Who knows, maybe they will open things up a bit in the future but at the moment its better to run a netbook or laptop on a projector than the iPad.

    • Written by from Redmond

Rated 1 because 0 was not an option...

Well, I guess I could be faulted for not reading these reviews before going to the store...but alas, I was at the store not sitting in front of my computer and asked one of the geniuses there if I could use this to display from Docs2Go or Quickoffice...there answer yes, absolutely. My answer (as well as those here on the board is NO it doesn't. Given that4.2 should be out in a few days, I think I will hold it for another week or so to see if it changes under the new OS but unless it does, back to the store it goes.

    ONLY Slideshows and Movies

    • Written by from Armadale

I purchased this so my iPad could replace my notebook and be used for presentations. i.e. plug into a project.

Nope, this expected functionality is not provided. They should be more explicit to point out that slideshows and movies are the ONLY things this will do.
