    Nearly useless

Only buy if you want to show YouTube or keynote does not mirror output, so no you cant use it for lecturing, training or demos of iPad or iphone apps. Dumb.

    not what you think

    • Written by from Sandy

Just like everyone else, I thought it would work normally and output what you see on the iPad -- it only outputs videos playing or slideshows or keynote presentations. Not very useful for me.

    iPad 3G support not consistent

    • Written by from Corning

When plugging in to the iPad 3g, error says "this accessory not supported". Cable does NOT work with Keynote, YouTube or Videos as advertised. ONLY works with Photos despite the "Not supported" message.

Thirty bucks to project photos? I think not.

This limitation thwarts my entire purpose in buying my iPad and now I'm going to have to pay a restocking fee. What's wrong with you guys? You should make these limitations known before we buy instead of keeling the information on the down low. Most displeased.

No. You know what, JUST NO! I mean seriously, apple I love your products, but this one I cannot stand! And I know that it says only for movies and presentations, but make that MORE CLEARER NEXT TIME! Besides, why cant it mirror the screen? if your so high tech, and you make the "handy dandy' ipad, then make this product as good as the ipad! so just in review, NO!!!!!!!!!

I'm another customer surprised by the limitations of the accessory. I bought a WiFi iPad before the adapter was available and expected to be able to use it like a VGA cable works for any computer. What it does, it does fine (slideshows with Pages, and all of my movies in iTunes). But I don't want to give it another star, out of disappointment. It's such an arbitrary restriction.

    It's a waste of money!!!!

    • Written by from Safety Harbor

I purchased this vga connector as what the apple sales guys recommended me to get for viewing my iPad to a bigger screen. Unfortunately this product did not work.... Just a complete waste of money. I'm really disappointed on this product....

    What were they thinking??

    • Written by from The Woodlands

Seriously, what was Apple thinking in creating a VGA adapter that doesn’t act like any other VGA adapter that’s been on the market for 15 years! This is not an adapter. This is a “VGA Filter”, and it filters out all WYSIWYG operations, the dock screen, all applications except YouTube and KeyNote, and the video player (does not output HD DRM movies). You guys need to learn how to properly label this stuff. I am definitely returning this useless item. How hard is it to split the internal VGA signal and mirror the screen? I’m an App developer who was about to demonstrate this great and wonderful program I made to for my company, but I couldn’t get the dang thing to connect to my projector or screens! Come on guys! There is no way your “magical and revolutionary device” can be used in a normal business and productivity setting if you are going to peddle over-priced, crummy accessories like this.

I should have read the reviews!

    • Written by from Appleton

I am a hard core power PC user. However, I have been blown away by Apple with their iPhone, and now the iPad! Useful, simple, and powerful are words I am now using for these products. I saw the VGA adapter product and thought, “finally, Apple is going to do it". They are going to give us a way to output to a bigger screen! I did not read another word, just ordered it. To my dismay, it does output, but in such a limited capacity that it will be staying at home in my sock drawer. As already stated, it does not mirror what is on the iPad screen. I would imagine this would be the most desirable function for this product. I could not believe that it would not even output my purchased movies. I do not get it. Seeing as I have been able to do this with so many other devices for more than ten years now. This is the only review I have ever posted and I am doing for one reason. I hope that everyone who sees this will join me in complaining, until Apple gives us what we really need. I will keep my adapter. I am hoping that in the meantime it is possible for someone to write an app to work around this short coming.

Worthless junk - DO NOT BUY

    • Written by from Lake Forest Park

None of the apps I tried this with will output to my television, and worst of all, the video I bought on iTunes displays a message that says I am "not authorized" to play it on the display. Apple owes me a refund on both this and the particular video which was purchased on the mistaken (rather, misslead) intent to view it on the 46" display, not the 10". My attempts to contact Apple over this results in a run around where I am told to contact someone else. They really should be ashamed of themselves

    Sooo limited

    • Written by from Ithaca

Only a few apps send output to an external display. (e.g. Keynote, but not Pages; not even Netflicks.) You will not see your iPod screen on the monitor. The connector does what it's intended to do, its the iPad that limited.

    2 thumbs down!

So VERY disappointed! Not only did I pay $29 bucks for the adapter, I also had to shell out another $25 for the duel male end cable to hook between the adapter and TV only to find it doesn't stream anything worthwhile. Oh sure, if I want to bore myself and others sensless with a slideshow it will work but I wantedt to be able to watch my Netflix movies with my husband through it onto the TV rather than just by myself on the iPad. Apple, I can't beleive you have such a HUGE limitation. I hope this gets fixed with the next upgrade SOON!

    Doesn't work as advertised

    • Written by from Urbana

Don't listen to the people giving good reviews- this product is a disappointment and its uses are FAR more restricted than the product description suggests.

Since there's no mirroring, it ONLY plays slideshows through Keynote- even though PDF readers like GoodReader have a slideshow mode, the adapter won't play them. Some videos bought on the iTunes store won't play either- it's not even compatible with Apple's other products!

After paying $30 for this piece of junk, I really hope Apple gets their act together on the software.

    Limited and impractical

    • Written by from Winchester

I had high hopes for this adapter. I thought I'd be able to mirror the iPad display, which would be superb for not just presentations when on the road (which the adapter does support) but also demoing web-based software, working on Pages documents, using VNC/RDP to access remote machines, etc. All of these things work beautifully on the iPad, but cannot be displayed. As a result, I still have to carry a laptop when traveling, and burned $29 on an essentially useless adapter in the process. I hope Apple address this in a future firmware update - if they did I'd give this adapter 5 stars instead of 1.

Please, Apple's Staff, let the availability and usability as wide as possible. It's a joke that I can't get what I do with my MacBook connector with an iPad or iPhone or iPod, or one can get some but not other. Get the technological development more simple and useful! Sometimes you resembling "Vista"!!!!!
