    Almost Genius, But Instead....

    • Written by from Las Cruces

OK, first problem.... How do you power you ipad when it is plugged into this device, So your watching a movie, or giving a presentation when all the sudden, Boom! Your Ipad is out of battery...

Problem Two... This attachment doesn't work with really any application, it doesn't mirror your screen or do anything that it could. Maybe after everyone buys this devise APPLE will come out with version TWO that supports will support a little more... story of apples life.

APPLE you can't make up reviews or delete them quick enough to make this product seem like a must have, another week and this product will have 1 star. My rating is 0 stars, not given that option of course.

    another lockdown on apple product

    • Written by from Anza

How unfortunate that Apple produces these wonderful products but so severely limits their implementation by locking out features. $400 for an ipod touch 4g and I don't have the freedom to use it as a presentation device beyond showing Netflix and a couple of other apps. Let's try the Zune.

The adapter does exactly what it says it does...

    • Written by from Austin

Nowhere in the product description does it say this adapter supports mirroring the display on your iPhone 4/iPod Touch 4G/iPad. I bought the adapter for what it mentions in the description, videos and pictures. It works great with Netflix.

You do have compile in extra code if you want to give demos of applications mirroring the screen, but this is something that only matters to iOS developers. The important thing is that it can work, and takes about 5 minutes of searching the internet to figure out how.

This adapter does what it says it does... nothing more.

    iPad VGA adapter

    • Written by from Baltimore

I was ready to write a bad review because I could not get the VGA adapter to work with my LCD projector. After doing some trouble shooting I replaced the VGA cable that came with the projector with one I got with my flat screen LCD monitor with my pc and now it works. I can display presentations and videos.

Very limited use, a waste of money. I just wanted to view various files on an LCD projector during meetings, it could not do that.

    • Written by from TIVERTON

My brother in law has this product for his iPad. He went out fishing with his new iPhone took a movie and then put the movie on a large size TV screen. The qualtity of the iPhone movie was impressive. The adaptor to the TV worked impressively. This is revolutionary!

It is not what I was expecting

    • Written by from castelnuovo rangone

I purchased the adpater to use LCD projector for my presentation running under quickoffice, instaviz, fileapp pro etceteras and in reality runs only movie or notes.
The explanations for the product are limited and unclear. This is not a fair commercial approach.

    Shockingly limited usefulness

    • Written by from Berne

One would expect a VGA adaptor to faithfully mirror a screen on a projector, as it does for a laptop. No, only restricted apps can be displayed on a screen with the VGA adaptor. Most useful apps cannot be displayed (apparently unless you jailbreak the iPad). This is a bug, not a feature. I find this a shockingly arrogant example of Apple locking down useful features for highly questionable business reasons. Do *not* buy this product unless you are prepared to live with its limited application.

    Interesting choice of capability...

    • Written by from Kalamazoo

As an electrical engineer trained in both hardware and software development, I find it interesting that Apple chose to activate video output only in Keynote and Videos (I have not found other apps that output video, but there may be). This limits the utility for me; I tend to not only give canned briefings, but demonstrate, in real time, image and signal processing algorithms, as well as display photos. I wish that Apple provided, out-of-the-box, the ability to mirror the display.

Having said that, I have seen an iPad that was "jailbroken" only for the purpose of adding a 28kB patch that does just that...mirrors the video. Apparently, in a matter of minutes, it's possible to "fix" the Apple-imposed limitation. This tells me that it's not some hardware or software difficultly, but apparently something political limiting that function(if you can believe that)....

The cable is well-built, and certainly outputs the video signal (when its present) clearly. But be aware that, unless you give Keynote briefings only, you may find that it's not a useful option.

Works Exactly What It Was Made For

    • Written by from Cornelius

I don't know what is wrong with what seems like every other review of this product. To me, it only shows the technological ignorance of the user. This product does exactly what it is supposed to do...WORK! And some posters say you can's use it for business!!! What a joke!! I can travel the world with something as small, think, and powerful as the iPad and plug into any T.V. (worthy of the iPad), or projector and do gorgeous presentations with Keynote that amaze all who view them. This product only enhances the value of the iPad and I would recommend it to ANY person but especially those that need to do high level presentations WHEREVER they may be. PLEASE gain some knowledge of your devices before you post false information on these posts!!!

Complete trash, doesn't work except YouTube videos

    • Written by from Olmsted Falls

Wow what a disappointment. I was considering recommending iPads to our sales people, but since you can't show web applications, spreadsheets, or even slideshows (OK maybe slideshows if you go buy a specific application) this really makes the iPad useless for a field sales person. I thought testing the VGA output was going to be just a formality everything else was going well. Even more disappointing is the clearly misleading information, or lack of information, on the packaging and online description from Apple. I rarely return things, but this is definitely going back. 0 stars is the real rating but the site makes me give it 1 star.

    Total dissapointment

    • Written by from Westbury

You can't use it for business purposes (presentations and stuff like that), but also it is limited to "some" videos on the entertainment arena. I wasn't able to project my PURCHASED movies in my home projector!!!!. So I had to carry my Windows PC to do it the old fashion. Useless!

Rated 1 because 0 was not an option...

Well, I guess I could be faulted for not reading these reviews before going to the store...but alas, I was at the store not sitting in front of my computer and asked one of the geniuses there if I could use this to display from Docs2Go or Quickoffice...there answer yes, absolutely. My answer (as well as those here on the board is NO it doesn't. Given that4.2 should be out in a few days, I think I will hold it for another week or so to see if it changes under the new OS but unless it does, back to the store it goes.

Don't buy this unless you ONLY want to show slideshows. Waste of money and a frustration when you're trying to present using the toy, um...i mean, iPad. How pointless.

And to anyone who suggest we should "get a grip"... Maybe Apple should just make it easier to use their products without trying to control what everyone does with it. Yeah, I FOOLISHLY assumed I'd be able to share my screen with a VGA monitor with a cable that connects to a monitor. How foolish.

Really should have read more reviews!

    • Written by from Sterling

I am kicking myself for not looking at the reviews to find out the limitations of this connector. The ability to not be able to mirror the device is ridiculous. At least let me display from Pages and Numbers! Also, I wish Apple would put this information in the overview of the product. Unless I missed it, I couldn't find the official limitations other than a support article.
