It really makes me angry that i cannot display movies I bought on iTunes on my TV. That is what was promised by Apple: Show presentations and Movies on you big screen. I understand the need for copy protection but this is going too far...

    Don't buy

    • Written by from Arlington

As oppose what you would think this accesory does not project the iPAd scree into a HD TV or projector. It only streams from Youtube, Keynote or other selected applications.

The worst to me was that it doesn't stream from the Netflix application.

Very sad Apple is still protective about this, considering they sold a ton of iPads thanks to Netflix who released an iPad app, from the start.

Don't buy until Apple opens the ipad for full HD TV Streaming.

    I expected more from Apple

    • Written by from Homer City

I'm a long time PC guy. My wife bought me the iPad for my birthday. I was excited, but a little frustrated by the limitations (no USB support or file support for example). Small gripe - live with it and enjoy the things it does do - like download and play HD video. Wait, I distinctly remember the Apple Sales Rep telling me that I could watch the HD videos on my big screen if I purchased the $29.99 iPad to VGA dongle. Sorry, can't be done. A VGA cable is not compatible with the HDCP anti piracy setup. Check the website - watch videos on your TV. But no mention that this does not include the HD video rentals (at $4.99 a pop). Where is the clarity and honesty that is supposed to set the Apple world apart from the Wacky World Of Windows? Glitchy products with misleading PR are something I've come to expect from Gates and Co. I'm dissappointed that during my first two weeks with Apple, I'm finding the same old thing.

I wanted to show whatever is showing on my iPad on a bigger screen with this cable, but not even the movies I purchased on iTunes can be showed. And why???? very disappointing Apple!

Feeling gutted and robbed. Thanks Apple...

    • Written by from Boston

Maybe I didn't read the product description clear enough but It looks like I wasn't the only one who didn't realize the limitations of the adapter.

As a huge fan of Apple. I own a Mac pro, MacBook pro, iPhone and iPad... Little things like these frustrates me.

Stop ripping people off Apple. Very disappointed.

    Stupidest product after the Newton

    • Written by from State College

Why Apple would try to pull a fast one by not telling customers that you cannot display a web page, or the desktop, or any other app except videos, I can't begin to fathom. I'm going back to my Vista netbook, which actually works with a classroom projector and isn't crippled like this product.

    Bait and Switch

    • Written by from Vienna

For a guy whose Apple experience dates back to the Lisa, this is a VERY disappointing product. Limited content output and no mirroring make it virtually useless. A better name would have been "Limited-Use Mirror-less VGA connector and Wallet Lightener." Yeah, the product description said what this "thing" can do, but it didn't specify what it can't do. Not enough room on the packaging, no doubt. :(

    Misleading and limited functionality.

    • Written by from MURRIETA

The adapter does what it says, but it makes it sound as if it were VGA output for **anything** being displayed by the iPad.

Instead, it is limited to the apps that allow video output and the ones that Apple provide.

The reason it is misleading is because these limitations are not listed in the product description--not even as a note.

In my opinion, save $29 and move on.

    Apple, please listen to me!

    • Written by from rexburg

I dont know if anyone at apple will pay any attention at all to this review but I can hope... I have been a loyal Apple customer for several years now. I own a macbook, iphone, and now an ipad. These are all great products, but I am tired of getting great products crippled by the limitations placed on their software. This adapter for the ipad is the perfect example. We know the ipad can mirror its display, we all saw it during its unvieling, so why do we get the dumbed down version?
If all you want to do is display keynote, youtube, or slideshows then this will work fine, but for the rest of us, it is really disapointing. Apple please fix this.

    Serious and fundamental presentation flaws

    • Written by from Hyrum

I purchased the iPad for educational use in my classroom. I wanted to utilize several of the great education Apps for my students. When Jobs unveiled the iPad by showing the world all it can do, I assumed I could use the same mirroring capabilities to do the same for my class. I wouldn't have minded as much if the vga adapter had mentioned its inability to mirror out, but it didn't.

    Please fix this.

    Just doesn't work

    • Written by from Seattle

Piling on all the other reviews . . . as of May 12, 2010 this flat doesn't work on any application I have on the iPad. Like a lot of other people I bought this (and the iPad) fantasizing that I would be able to load up my slides and leave my laptop at home. Fantasize is the operative word. If I could give this a negative star I would.

Presentations. I should not need a PC for "that."

    • Written by from ASHBURN

I should be able to use this VGA Adapter with my old 20" LCD monitor or any device that will connect to the VGA Adapter, but it does not work. Based on the comments I have "now" read, many people in addition to me would like to have VGA mirroring for training, demonstrations, or whatever. VGA is a still a standard after all.

This lack of functionality may force some iPad users to have to consider carrying another device for presentations or web based demos. One should not have to carry a net book, aka as a PC, to do web based presentations or demonstrations when the iPad is just sitting on the conference table doing nothing. C level execs and others are quick on the uptake. If they see you presenting off a net book, but scheduling off the iPad, it just doesn't look like you have your act together carrying a bunch of equipment when you should only have to carry one device.

Please activate full capabilities for presentations via web or any other software! I should not need a PC for "that."

Normally Apple stuff just works. Please let us know when this will be fixed.

    Thanks.

    Apple! Write the software already!

    • Written by from Brooklyn

seriously? didn't Steve's initial presentation use mirror display functionality? It's embarrassing for Apple to have launched this product without such a key feature. A major reason to have a portable platform like this would be to display presentations and create live annotations, etc.

    Worthless

    • Written by from Islamorada

This product simple does not have the functionality to warrant the price tag. Paying $30 for something that puts home movies, YouTube videos, and presentations on the screen. Regardless of whether the product functions "as advertised" it is simply too limited, and had so much more potential. Rather than making individual apps support the device, it should do what every other VGA adapter is expected to do on other devices, mirror the content of the iPad, all the time, without question.

    won't play DRM-protected movies

It will not play any DRM-protected content due to its inability to pass down security information via VGA connector. Better wait for a HDMI dongle instead.

Only buy if you want to show YouTube or keynote does not mirror output, so no you cant use it for lecturing, training or demos of iPad or iphone apps. Dumb.
