    Very Disappointing

    • Written by from Johor Bahru

Like many reviews, the connector is very limited in displaying the end result. Expected to function like any other VGA adapter but was disappointed at its limitations. Hope Apple will do something about it before more people 'distrust' Apple products.

    Just plain wrong

    • Written by from Yonkers

Wow it is very rare that apple gets a product wrong. But when they do they go full bore with it. This product is designed to only allow specific apps to be displayed not just a copy of your screen.

    Lame

    • Written by from Port Orchard

It only seems to work with video apps. I wanted to see a Safari page on a bigger monitor. No support for sound which requires a separate adapter plugged into the headphone port. And, no support for having the iPad plugged in to power while playing video making it impossible to use for a long period of time. Overall, of very limited use.

The component cable adapter is a much better deal.

iTunes VGA output on the MacBook works - so what's the point? AppleTV is!

    • Written by from Solingen

Ok, I'm also disappointed as mostly everyone is, but I don't understand why it doesn't work on the iPad. The MacBook/Pro does forward the screen signal thru a display adapter - yes, also all iTunes DRM protected movies. So what's the point of not doing this with the iPad? Also it's VGA, an analog video signal. While the MacBook/Pro does give out an analog and digital signal. I tell you what the point is - AppleTV. Why bother with buying an AppleTV if I can do the same with the iPad? For the bigger hard drive? Maybe - but maybe not. Get this fixed Apple it's just upsetting your customer! You know the one's that already payed money and spend more in your iTunes store. Don't do the same SONY does all the time and had most of their customer turning away by ridiculous DRM statements and products that just triad the real customer as they are the bad pirates. The only people you upset are your customers.

    Wow

    • Written by from Waseca

Well this thing is pretty much pointless and was a waste of money, I bought it to watch movies on my tv and anytime I try it restarts my iPad? And than the movie won't even play, it says some bs about a movie being protected.

    Unacceptable Limitations...

    • Written by from Lancaster

We need to be able output the iPad display entirely to the VGA adapter. I paid $29 for this piece of junk. Do not buy this until they fix this.

    Misleading at best...

    • Written by from Creston

I expect everyone that saw Steve do his iPad presentation on the big screen probably thought he was using this very VGA Adapter many of us purchased. We also immediately thought of the many ways we could use this in education or other areas via projection... Safari, books, on-and-on. Well, like you, I am disappointed. I won't send it back although I'm tempted, however I hope Apple or somebody gets a FIX fairly soon.

    Accessory Works

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I just purchased this accessory tonight and it works great with my iPad 2. I agree JV from Portland in not listening and not agreeing with those having problems and leaving a 2-star rating. Those who have problems should READ BEFORE THEY PURCHASE or ask a salesperson for assistance that is what they are there for.

    Works perfectly

    • Written by from Lincoln University

Works perfectly! I can show Keynote presentations and files via GoodReader on the projector at work, and with the iPad 2 it'll mirror nearly any app as well. The original iPad doesn't have mirror capability but certain apps do support the secondary display (Keynote, GoodReader, Atomic Borwser, YouTube to name a few).
Doesnt seem to use much, if any any, additional battery to drive the secondary display, either.
    I'm very pleased. 5 stars.

    Are you Kidding me??!!??

    • Written by from Edina

This adapter only works with the slide show? It was never advertised as such and I specifically bought the adapter with the intent on using this in my business. I am trying so hard to get the iPad accepted as a legitimate computing platform in my company and I feel I am now at a dead end. Was planning to outfit entire sales force with these instead of a PC. Better cancel that order for 200 iPads.

Please fix this. And please give us the ability to rate a negative number.

    Violation of common sense

    • Written by from Tuen Mun, N.T.

    Common sense tells me that
    1. Most, if no all, computers can connect to a project for presentation.
    2. Apple has to demonstrate how good the iPad is through projector.
    3. Presentation is one of the most essential features in computing.
    4. Connection to a projector is technically possible and easy.

However, the iPad I bought is not able to connect to a projector for presentation.
    How disappointing?

I can't understand why the vga adapter doesn't show the home screen. It' s like having only the possibility to look at a nice car but Not to enjoy driving it. For presentations it is essential. The workflow is very bad now.

    Limited

    • Written by from staten Island

Works only for keynote and 'some' video. This will not allow you to see your iPad screen on the big screen. It works only with programs that are designed for it.
The description on the apple store is very limited and simplistic. This fact should be emphasized to reduce frustrations.

    Disappointment in action

    • Written by from Tampa

I bought this adapter in order to project .ppt presentations in a business situation from my iPad. The projector is not recognized by the iPad and can get no image to project. After reading the other reviews it seems to be a very common objection. I would not have bought if I was aware of its limitations.

Program authors can make it work

    • Written by from Pacific City

Apple makes an API (interface code) available to App programmers. If they include this API in their program, the VGA Adapter will project that program (not the full screen or the iPad home screen, etc) to a large screen or through a projector. Why it's not universally available I couldn't tell you, but it easy to add this feature to a program. Email the app developers and ask them to add this feature.

    Educational Tool?

    • Written by from Ogden

I pre ordered the ipad the day it was available. I bought it because I thought that I could use this VGA adapter to show my students some of the amazing science apps offered. However, the day my ipad came me and 30 students had to huddle around a paper sized device because the VGA connector would not work. Not really useful in a real classroom unless your school has funding to buy each student an ipad and all the apps. I am hopeful that the new OS4 will fix this.

    Barely of any use

    • Written by from AUSTIN

It does not mirror the iPad screen. Only a couple applications are allowed to use it and even then with limitations. Why o why Apple when you usually make such great products are you putting this barely functional one on the market with your name on it? PLEASE make it mirror the iPad display in a software or firmware update to the iPad - you'll sell a ton and make a bunch more happy customers instead of disappointed ones like me.
