    Didn't work

I tried this adaptor for cable and the projector that I usually use with my MacBook. I got no signal to the projector. It ought to work!

    Limited and impractical

    • Written by from Winchester

I had high hopes for this adapter. I thought I'd be able to mirror the iPad display, which would be superb for not just presentations when on the road (which the adapter does support) but also demoing web-based software, working on Pages documents, using VNC/RDP to access remote machines, etc. All of these things work beautifully on the iPad, but cannot be displayed. As a result, I still have to carry a laptop when traveling, and burned $29 on an essentially useless adapter in the process. I hope Apple address this in a future firmware update - if they did I'd give this adapter 5 stars instead of 1.

    Bait and switch

    • Written by from Morgantown

Apple should choose their words more wisely in their description of this product. I bought it thinking I could project my purchased movies but alas, no such luck. What movies can you project exactly? Why can't apps be projected? Feels like a bait and switch......perhaps a refund?

Only buy if you understand limitations

    • Written by from Bountiful

Neither the description nor the overview reveals the limitations of this product. Per the overview "Use the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter to connect an iPad to your television, projector, or VGA display." However when connected to a computer monitor I receive "Cannot play movie: The connected display is not authorized to play protected movies" when trying to view a TV series downloaded from the iTunes store. Read the Apple support article "ht4108" before buying.

    so annoyed

    • Written by from Bungay

i teach and this would have been a perfect teacher companion, if only the display would have mirrored the ipad, but just the slideshow and videos, how pointless, what about the apps, ibooks for showing resources or text books.

    im taking it back!!!!

Only buy if you want to show YouTube or keynote does not mirror output, so no you cant use it for lecturing, training or demos of iPad or iphone apps. Dumb.

    Doesn't work as advertised

    • Written by from Urbana

Don't listen to the people giving good reviews- this product is a disappointment and its uses are FAR more restricted than the product description suggests.

Since there's no mirroring, it ONLY plays slideshows through Keynote- even though PDF readers like GoodReader have a slideshow mode, the adapter won't play them. Some videos bought on the iTunes store won't play either- it's not even compatible with Apple's other products!

After paying $30 for this piece of junk, I really hope Apple gets their act together on the software.

    Doesn't work with iTunes video

    • Written by from Los Angeles

This adapter is a total waste for me. I bought some TV shows and movies from itunes through the iPad. I then discovered that I cannot watch these videos through the iPad video connector connected to my HDTV because of the DRM on them. Do not buy this cable if you were intending to use it for the same reason.

As everyone else complains, this is not what it seems (in terms of iphone; it apparently works for the ipad 2). If you wish to project exactly what you see on your iphone; this won't do it. I bought it thinking the adapter works the same way as the laptop. The macbook vga adapter projects the screen of your laptop as is. So I automatically assumed that the same would be true for the iphone vga adapter. Well, I was wrong. Don't be wrong.

    Don't Purchase!!!!

This is a joke...It doesn't work like it should. Can't mirror your desktop to a larger monitor....Come on apple what is wrong with you...Get me a dock that will project my Iphone screen to a monitor so I can use a normal keyboard and mouse...oh are you scared you won't sell any computers then...well I won't be buying a computer because I have my Iphone that will do everything I want. Just let me do it on a normal monitor, keyboard and mouse.

note: Better yet let me bluetooth or WiFI direct to a monitor, keyboard and mouse...imagine walking in your home or office with your phone in your pocket and have a wireless connection to you 27" monitor, 50' flatscreen TV, wireless keyboard and mouse without touching your phone or taking it out of your pocket...you can have the same set up at home and at the office...sweet...answer calls with bluetooth headset...Come on Apple you can do it what is the problem...Jump this thing forward don't just sit and sell you current product then make it obsolete then sell another product...get rid off all the computers and Ipod stuff and let my iphone loose!

    Not working

    • Written by from Woburn

I bought it at a recommendation of one of the "geniuses" at the Apple store, who assured me that I could watch Netflix and display slideshows using this VGA adaptor. Needless to say, neither works. Apple's obsession with what we can and cannot do with their products is sickening.

    Very frustrated

    • Written by from Bottisham

Thought this devise would enable me to project a whole world of knowledge to my class of 10 year olds. It doesn't. In fact I couldn't project anything even with the VGA expedition app as it needs an Internet connection. My iPad is not 3G. IPad as a great teaching resource is a non starter.

This adapter is quite limited in its functionality. Cannot be used to mirror the ipad display - no playing games on tv, no presenting websites on projector, no awesome 2nd monitor interface as Keynote for Mac...

As oppose what you would think this accesory does not project the iPAd scree into a HD TV or projector. It only streams from Youtube, Keynote or other selected applications.

The worst to me was that it doesn't stream from the Netflix application.

Very sad Apple is still protective about this, considering they sold a ton of iPads thanks to Netflix who released an iPad app, from the start.

Don't buy until Apple opens the ipad for full HD TV Streaming.

seriously? didn't Steve's initial presentation use mirror display functionality? It's embarrassing for Apple to have launched this product without such a key feature. A major reason to have a portable platform like this would be to display presentations and create live annotations, etc.

    this cable is terrible

    • Written by from Spring Valley

if you cant view the presentation on your ipad, while you project it onto the screen, it defeats the purpose for me purchasing the thing to begin with.

It makes the whole ipad useless to me, and im going to throw the whole ipad in a microwave oven. The entire device s---s.

This thing is *really* limited in what it can do. Not a lot of application support. What's the point of it? I also noticed that it can't output the origami slide show style, it can only do dissolve. :(

    Didn't work for me!

    • Written by from McMinnville

It's a good thing that I make a dry run before a presentation. I hooked up the conference room equipment to my iPad to show a bit of a Penn & Teller episode that I had BOUGHT, and to my delight I received an error message on the iPad that the adapter did not work with "protected movies". All I got on the big screen was a still image of the first frame. Another random TV show I tried worked as it should. So what bloody good is it anyway if the iPad is crippled like that? I can't count on using it in my presentations.
