    Not Exactly Love

I used the VGA adapter into my LCD with my iPad 1. Video games worked, photos worked, YouTube, videos all worked. However, I was not able to view a powerpoint presentation, spreadsheet or Word doc, through DocsToGo or Dropbox, which is why I wanted it. I dream of presenting to a client off my iPad rather than laptop, but it remains to be seen, no pun intended. So buyer beware depending on what you want to use it for.

With an iPad 2, video mirroring is great

When you plug this into an iPad 2, everything you see on your iPad you see on the screen. Great for videos, NetFlix, Keynote, and others.

Complete trash, doesn't work except YouTube videos

Wow what a disappointment. I was considering recommending iPads to our sales people, but since you can't show web applications, spreadsheets, or even slideshows (OK maybe slideshows if you go buy a specific application) this really makes the iPad useless for a field sales person. I thought testing the VGA output was going to be just a formality everything else was going well. Even more disappointing is the clearly misleading information, or lack of information, on the packaging and online description from Apple. I rarely return things, but this is definitely going back. 0 stars is the real rating but the site makes me give it 1 star.

i wish i read reviews before i purchased this item. like everybody said - doesn't mirror what you have on your iPad and doesn't play rented/purchased movies from ITunes. so what is the point of this item then? NOTHING

Useless - almost no apps support it.

The VGA adapter will display nothing unless an app specifically supports displaying something. Apple's own apps generally do not show anything (except that you can watch youtube videos on the projector). You can't show the web browser, or your email, or your pdf files.

This is the biggest ripoff product in Apple's recent history. The value of this adapter is below zero.

This is useless without iTunes Movies

When you try to play a movie that you buy or rent on itunes it says the display is not authorized to play protected content. I looked it up on Google and everyone is having the same issue. They should really let you know that before buying.

iPad for Presentations - Not this way!

    • Written by from San Luis Obispo

One of the justifications to get an iPad for me was to use it for lectures. I knew that hauling around the iPad leashed to a projector wouldn't be ideal, but it certainly sounded like a possible alternative to a laptop. The limitations of this connector, combined with the "Keynote Extra-Light" for the iPad, render it practically useless for this purpose.
I used a tablet PC with a wireless connection to a projector a few years ago, but unfortunately it was rather flakey, and too heavy to hold for longer than ten minutes. Technology-wise it should be feasible to do something like this with an iPad, but what we have here is a step back, not one forward. At the very least, I'd expect the ability to mirror the iPad screen on an external display.

utility to ghost fingertips when screen is touched

    • Written by from Courtenay

I teach the iPad to classs of seniors, and I must say the VGA display adapter works very well for me. I particularly appreciate its ability to rotate the VGA image In step with the orientation of the iPad.

However, there's another feature I would like to see. At present, the students can only see where my fingers are if I am typing on the screen keyboard. They cannot see what I am doing if I drag, swipe, pinch, spread, or twist an object on the screen.

Ideally, I would like a utility that positions and moves ghosted finger marks whenever I touch the screen in any way.

Thanks to the overly paranoid DRM, it's impossible to pay movies bought via iTunes on your monitor or TV. Maybe you should point that out before you charge my credit card

Bought with the idea of being able to view my movies from itunes store on a monitor but can't. Greatly disappointed! This should be well explained in the info about the product, so people realize this before buying and waste their money. On the other side of the coin, this is the first time apple missed the mark in my humble opinion.

I was very disappointed with the limitations of this connector. It does not play movies, powerpoint presentations, email, web pages, and e-reader apps. I was going to use the iPad this semester to lecture graduate students on educational technology but now, I think i'll switch it up and call it, the limitations of technology in education.

    Disappointed, shame on Apple!

Apple needs to have a big red sicker on this product warning how totally useless it is. We bought it and are retuning it ASAP. Why you might ask? Because you can do almost nothing with it other then look at your a slide show of your photos and watch a non DRM encoded movies (good luck finding one of those). So planing on using your iPad as a business tool with Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Safari, sorry your out of luck! Apple has crippled this connector so that it's useless so unless you just want to look at your photos on a TV or projector don't waste your money on this VGA adapter.

I loved my little VGA connector as I teach and use my Ipad for all my classes. Since the upgrade to the iOS6 it hasnt worked. I've tried using my students' iPads as well and since they have all upgraded to iOS6, it doesn't work on theirs either! I wish I could go back!

I'm not having a problem with it working on my iPad 2 with iOS 6. It didn't initially work because I plugged in the 30-pin connector BEFORE plugging in the VGA cable from my 32" monitor. However, disconnecting and reconnecting it to my iPad while the cable was still plugged in got me the result I expected - full mirroring and even plays movies from apps outside of the iOS Videos app such as Vudu, Netflix, etc! I'm quite pleased!

Our company purchased the VGA cable to link our iPad 2 with our projector and it works very well. The only draw back we have had, the connection to the iPad 2 is rather weak and tends to unplug itself when slightly moved causing loss of signal.
