    works perfectly

    • Written by from Bishop

I bought this adapter to view pictures with a projector from my I-pad2. I don't know what people are complaining about since I just plugged it in and it works perfectly. I'm 100% satisfied!

    iPad mirror request

    • Written by from Kuala Lumpur

So many iPad users (not iPad 2) have requested for mirroring and complained after purchasing the adaptor, including me. I wish Apple understand iPad users' experience during presentation.

    Works Like A Charm

    • Written by from Paradise

    I have an iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4S.

It should first be noted that only the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 will display "live mirroring" of the display.

Secondly, the iPhone 4, iPad 1, and iPhone 3GS; it will only display video from certain apps such as: YouTube, Photos (slideshow feature only), Videos, Netflix, and any other third party app that has added video out support (there's not very many out there).

For the iPhone 3G, I receive an "Accessory not supported feature" and was not able to get any video to output.

In regards to the iPhone 4S performance, it's crisp and sharp on any monitor I've hooked it up to. One downside that I've found is when I hook it up to my "vertical orientation" monitor. There are not any kind of settings on the iPhone to force a 90, 180, -90, -180 degree rotation. Newer monitors might have manual rotation in the settings; unfortunately, my Samsung 23" SyncMaster (from 2008) does not.

Alternatives for non iPhone 4S and iPad 2 would be the "Component AV" cable that essentially allows you to connect to any TV that accepts video (yellow) and audio (red or white or both) which obviously covers most televisions over the last 15 years. I have personal experience with the iPad 1 using the component cable and it works great for playing YouTube videos (such as Sesame Street for my daughter) or photo slideshows (showcasing my photography).

Overall it's a solid cable. I usually buy knock off eBay cables; but after my last experience buying the junky knock off component cable that was half the price of the Apple cable; I have regretted it (primarily due to the fact that it gets stuck in my iDevices and makes me feel like I have to rip it out dangerously to get it out).

utility to ghost fingertips when screen is touched

    • Written by from Courtenay

I teach the iPad to classs of seniors, and I must say the VGA display adapter works very well for me. I particularly appreciate its ability to rotate the VGA image In step with the orientation of the iPad.

However, there's another feature I would like to see. At present, the students can only see where my fingers are if I am typing on the screen keyboard. They cannot see what I am doing if I drag, swipe, pinch, spread, or twist an object on the screen.

Ideally, I would like a utility that positions and moves ghosted finger marks whenever I touch the screen in any way.

    OK, but...

    • Written by from Exeter

Works perfectly with my iPad 2, does not work with iPad 1- RTFM, people! Agree with other posters, the iPad connector often "slips" out while presenting. Why can't I connect to power AND VGA like the HDMI connector? Item needs to be redesigned.

OK, but a Couple of Issues

    • Written by from Stewiacke

I got an iPad 2 for Christmas and hoped to use it for presentations at work. I just got the VGA adapter and I have two concerns.

First, the plastic on the 30 pin "plug" is flat (squared off), where the female receptacle on the iPad is tapered, following the shape of the iPad's body. As a result, the plug doesn't click into the port solidly, any movement of the iPad breaks the connection with the projector. I may have to file the plastic down so it mates with the iPad better, but I think I'll call Apple, first.

My second concern is that either the iPad itself or the adapter do not seem to be supported by all projectors. I tried it on an Eiki and it didn't recognize anything being plugged in.

I gave it 3 stars because when it works, it works as advertised.

    Works GREAT! iPad 2 = 100% Mirroring.

    • Written by from Surrey

I was not sure about this after reading a few reviews that were casting a shadow on it, but I had a meeting and needed to show a KEYNOTE on the big screen from my iPad2.

Instant Set Up: Plugged the VGA Adapter into the iPad2 then the projector and it immediately worked.

100% Mirroring: KEYNOTE came off perfect and after the meeting I played with every other app I have...Games, YouTube, Video, E-Mail... you name it, it was on the big screen!!

Works like a charm!! My biggest issue is that everyone in the office keeps wanting to borrow it and "forgetting" to bring it back! If you need to project, buy it, it will do exactly what you want it to.

    Cheers!

    Didn't work for me!

    • Written by from McMinnville

It's a good thing that I make a dry run before a presentation. I hooked up the conference room equipment to my iPad to show a bit of a Penn & Teller episode that I had BOUGHT, and to my delight I received an error message on the iPad that the adapter did not work with "protected movies". All I got on the big screen was a still image of the first frame. Another random TV show I tried worked as it should. So what bloody good is it anyway if the iPad is crippled like that? I can't count on using it in my presentations.

    Loves the iPad2 But ...

    • Written by from KIHEI

I tried with all three devices - iPad2, iPhone4S, and iPod Touch - on the same projector and would only project from iPad2, which is awesome, but we have a lot more iPod touches on campus so I was hoping it could work on those, too. So that's why the rating of 3.

    Not Exactly Love

    • Written by from Huntington Beach

I used the VGA adapter into my LCD with my iPad 1. Video games worked, photos worked, YouTube, videos all worked. However, I was not able to view a powerpoint presentation, spreadsheet or Word doc, through DocsToGo or Dropbox, which is why I wanted it. I dream of presenting to a client off my iPad rather than laptop, but it remains to be seen, no pun intended. So buyer beware depending on what you want to use it for.

I use it everyday to read books nd watch TV episodes. It was well worth the price. It does not working my iPad, but it works well with my iPad2. It's small, portable(All Apple products are) and I plan on buying another real soon.

    does nothing with iPhone 4

    • Written by from Galena

Despite the claims that this cable is compatible with iPhone 4 it apparently is not. I got this to use in my class to show students various bird-related apps and compare them to online resources and traditional field guides. Nothing, not just no mirroring, but no anything, photos, slideshows, nothing. C'mon Apple, you want schools to adopt etextbooks on iPads, time to make the iPhones truely compatible with LCD projectors. It can't be that difficult.

    A bit Disappointed

    • Written by from Lincoln

I own both iPad2 and iPhone4s and thought this adapter is going to be very convenience for me. But it made me ran like crazy when it doesn't support on the Panasonic Projector on my presentation day. There were "blinks" (a lot of them, in fact) when I connected via this adapter. However, two stars I gave is for working on the Mitsubishi projector on the other rooms, two stars is about right for this reason.

Does not do what it says on the label!

    • Written by from Bolton

This lead will only work with videos and photos from your device to the TV does not replicate any of my apps to the screen. Bought it because I got a number generator app which I wanted to show on a large screen but just shows a blank screen so now it's back to the drawing board till someone can come up with a way to do what I see as a pretty simple task. There MUST me some way!! Come on you apple techs!!! ;)

Mirrors the iPad 2 perfectly via VGA

    • Written by from Fairfax

Works as described and mirrors your iPad 2 to a connected display using a VGA connector. Plug this adapter into the iPad, and attach to the male end of a VGA cable connected to your display and you see the iPad 2 user interface.

    *Product Used: iPad 2 v5.0.1
    - You will need a VGA cable to connect between this adapter and your display.
    - You see the entire iPad user interface and the content of each app as you open it.
    - I tried a bunch of apps and games and all were mirrored on the display without issues.
    - iBooks worked perfectly for displaying presentations. Just open an email with the PDF presentation, select the attachment and select Open in iBooks, and it adds to your library. Open here and flip through the presentation.
    - As you might expect, the adapter does not allow copy protected material to display:
[x] HBO Go - Is blocked and will not display when connected
[x] Cox TV Connect - Will run and you can see the show listings, but the display area will not show any content when connected
[x] Downloaded Videos from the apple store would not display

    *Product Used: iPhone4 v5.0.1
    - Would NOT mirror the general user interface like on the iPad 2
    - I tried YouTube and could view videos
    - I tried a couple other apps that specifically have TV-out capabilities and they worked

In general did what I needed it to do for business presentations.
