    Device not supported?

    • Written by from Seattle

I just tried to plug my new ipad air into a fairly recently purchased VGA monitor. The connections fit perfectly, and I did plug them in in the order recommended. However, as soon as I plugged in to the ipad, it said "this device not supported by this ipad" What does that mean? Anyway, it wouldn't work. Am I missing something???

Past bad reviews are missing the mark!

    • Written by from Ottawa

There has been a lot of negative reviews about this VGA adaptor, saying it can't be used to mirror iphone or ipad screens, not so! It works just fine with iphone4S and 2nd gen Ipad. does eveything it is supposed to. I hooked it up to a monitor with external speakers and plugged in the VGA cable and adaptor and plugged in the speakers to the earphone jack on my Iphone and it worked beautifully! Don't let the negative reviews deter you. It might not work on older equipment, but IPhone 4s or newer it works just as you would expect!

Doesn't work with new iOS 7 as before

    • Written by from South Deerfield

    Buyer Beware.
This product doesn't work anymore with Netflix app on iOS7. This is what I bought it for. Sadly the product had once worked wonderfully with all these and the rest of the apps on my ipad and iphone before I updated the iOS to 7. In fact, I loved it before updating the OS to 7 since it essentially did what it was advertised to do...mirror my video on either my ipad or iphone 4 onto my TV or projector connected to VGA. It no longer does as advertised now that I upgraded to iOS7. For everyone's information and clarity, my wife still has iOS 6 on her phone and this connector works perfectly with Netflix and other apps for her. I, however, upgraded my ipad and iphone to iOS 7 and it no longer works with Netflix on those devices that were upgraded.

Shame on you Apple for selling a connector that YOU designed and sold that doesn't work as advertised with an upgrade to the iOS YOU also designed.
For those thinking this is a Netflix app issue. My wife's iphone with iOS6 is running the same Netflix app version as my iphone with iOS7....and as I wrote, her's works with Netflix and mine doesn't.
In addition, how can Apple support Netflix when someone is connected with Apple TV, but not when using this connector? I suppose this is a way for Apple to try to pry an additional $60-$70 bucks from me for the Apple TV device.
Again....shame on you Apple. I'm getting really sick of your greed.

    Works well.

    • Written by from Taylors

I have no idea what all of these reviews are talking about. I have used this adapter for training and presentation for a long time with great success. Everything I do mirrors perfectly onto my monitor/projector immediately, and my iPad is not jailbroken. Only a few apps don't mirror, but that's typically because those apps have their own built in restrictions (NFL Mobile, Xfinity, etc.).

I have an iPad3 with a 30pin connector. My only reason for not rating it five stars is that I would like to be able to charge at the same time as I'm projecting.

    OOOOPS!

    • Written by from Marietta

Had no problems getting this to work, just getting it to stay plugged in to the iPad. The cable keeps disconnecting with the slightest bump. Makes it unusable in a classroom. Why not add that little locking mechanism like the chargers for cell phones have? As it stands, I would give away the one I have for FREE because I really can't use it.

    Product Breaks

    • Written by from Leland

I am in a school here, where we use these in the classroom to project. Unfortunately, teachers keep wondering why they can't get theirs to work. Well, the cables look perfect, but something inside them gets loose or jarred, and the connection between the iPad and the VGA breaks.

If this products gets a decent amount of use, it appears to break. For a $30 product, I would hope for a better lifetime on these. May as well be a $10 knockoff if I should expect to replace them quickly.

    Whats the point?

Don't buy this if you want to watch anything from iTunes. Not supported, was told at the Apple store I could! Looks like they need to do more employee training.

It IS true: iTunes purchased shows won't play over this

    • Written by from Missoula

Confirmed that on iPad Generation 3, iOS 6.1.3, playing a movie or TV episode purchased from the iTunes store, either via Home Sharing or directly from the device will not work. "Protected content can't be played on this screen."

Any other video program plays back at full screen, and screen mirroring works just fine.

I love Apple. I own stock in Apple. I own lots of its products and don't care how pricey they are because I've received quality commensurate with or greater than the money spent. But this cable is utter garbage. At least they could have told me up front I couldn't show movies I downloaded from iTunes. I really felt let down. I may not abandon Apple products if this happens again, but I'll sure dump the stock.

pops out too easily, needs "teeth" and release buttons

    • Written by from Dorval

The adapter can easily get disconneted from ipad, it has actually popped out during every conference I have ever used it for (now I don't anymore)

If you want to be able to rely on it and have confidence that it won't pop out at the worst possible moment, the design would need to be changed to make the connection to the device more solid (like my car charger, which has "teeth" that lock the iphone into place, and two buttons to release it).

Works with iOS 6.0 and up

    • Written by from Bakersfield

Before anyone else writes that this adapter doesn't work with iOS 6 or higher, please read this:
    1. DO NOT connect the VGA adapter to your apple device until you have done the following.
    2. Connect the VGA cable to the monitor or projector FIRST.
    3. Make sure the monitor or projector is connected to a power source and TURNED ON.
    4. Connect the adapter to the VGA cable.
    5. NOW connect your apple device to the VGA adapter.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing twice and expect to get different results.

    Hit and Miss

    • Written by from Ottawa

I work in a building with multiple projectors and monitors all under two years old, if I plug into a monitor/projector with my HDMI or VGA connector it will work with an iPad 2 still running os5.1 but not an iPad 3 running 6. If it has to go through any kind of control unit, i.e. touch panel, video switcher, etc, chances are it's not going to work. My advice test it out first, try and go directly to the projector/monitor with out going through an audio/visual control system and always have a back up plan, like using a laptop instead.

    Great!

    This works perfectly!
To Those of you who have had troubles...
MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ THE DESCRIPTION FIRST!!
It clearly states video mirroring is ONLY SUPPORTED WITH IPHONE 4s AND IPAD 2 AND LATER!!! IPHONE 4 and iPad 1 only support VIDEO OUT( slide shows pictures videos, etc)
You can (and my teachers at school do!) use it to showcase apps and everything your device is showing. It simply has to be on an iphone4s or an iPad 2 or later. TRY READING DESCRIPTIONS BEFORE BAGGING ON A PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE, HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT. THANK YOU!!

    Does not work on iPhone4

    • Written by from Harrisburg

The specs and packaging clearly state that the adapter will work on iPhone 4 and 4S, but it only works on the 4S model. It is very frustrating to order a product that you think will work on several device models, but ends up only working on one.

It works for my iPad 3

    • Written by from Newbury Park

After reading all the negative reviews, I thought it might not do what I needed it to do. But, then I realized that the negative reviews were mostly about older iPads. The product description says that the adapter will allow mirroring of the iPad with the VGA projector. And it does. I will admit that some apps are not quite sure what to do with the mirroring. One pinball game only shows up on the projector and not on the iPad itself. However, most everything I wanted to demonstrate played on the projector and iPad 3 at the same time. So, I believe the mirroring does work.
