Mirrors the iPad 2 perfectly via VGA

    • Written by from Fairfax

Works as described and mirrors your iPad 2 to a connected display using a VGA connector. Plug this adapter into the iPad, and attach to the male end of a VGA cable connected to your display and you see the iPad 2 user interface.

    *Product Used: iPad 2 v5.0.1
    - You will need a VGA cable to connect between this adapter and your display.
    - You see the entire iPad user interface and the content of each app as you open it.
    - I tried a bunch of apps and games and all were mirrored on the display without issues.
    - iBooks worked perfectly for displaying presentations. Just open an email with the PDF presentation, select the attachment and select Open in iBooks, and it adds to your library. Open here and flip through the presentation.
    - As you might expect, the adapter does not allow copy protected material to display:
[x] HBO Go - Is blocked and will not display when connected
[x] Cox TV Connect - Will run and you can see the show listings, but the display area will not show any content when connected
[x] Downloaded Videos from the apple store would not display

    *Product Used: iPhone4 v5.0.1
    - Would NOT mirror the general user interface like on the iPad 2
    - I tried YouTube and could view videos
    - I tried a couple other apps that specifically have TV-out capabilities and they worked

In general did what I needed it to do for business presentations.

    Almost Genius, But Instead....

    • Written by from Las Cruces

OK, first problem.... How do you power you ipad when it is plugged into this device, So your watching a movie, or giving a presentation when all the sudden, Boom! Your Ipad is out of battery...

Problem Two... This attachment doesn't work with really any application, it doesn't mirror your screen or do anything that it could. Maybe after everyone buys this devise APPLE will come out with version TWO that supports will support a little more... story of apples life.

APPLE you can't make up reviews or delete them quick enough to make this product seem like a must have, another week and this product will have 1 star. My rating is 0 stars, not given that option of course.

VGA Adapter All it Should Be

    • Written by from Grand Rapids

I purchased the VGA adapter for my iPad 2 and a data projector. I wanted to be able to show others how to use the iPad and all the apps. It worked perfectly from the very start. Every app showed on the screen clear and sharp. I did not try to play movies that were converted to the iPad. But photos, apps, settings, mail, everything showed beautifully without any effort.

"Ladies, ladies, ladies, please. Apple is not so draconian that they could or would stop the flow of photons from your ipad to the projector/monitor. The only reason (some) of Apple's native products work as they should (allow for video out) is because they have built their apps with the understanding that users might want to display the content of their ipads on a larger screen. The problem with this adapter is not that it doesn't work on all ipad apps (which is true), the problem is that not all app developers have enabled video out correctly in their ipad apps. "

Every time I get to thinking I might have found a useful purpose for IPad I buy something like this that is so limited. Then read something from some apple elitist like above. It's not Apples fault. Bought mine from think geek and they were less clear about it. Funny my windows, windows mobile, and android devices don't have to have the developer "enable" video out to see my desktop or home screen.

Reviews that say "READ" are naive!

    • Written by from Hornby

Yes all it says is movies and slideshows, but it doesn't say ONLY moves and slide shows.

If they released a product that mirrored everything on the iPad and iPhone screen, it would still only say something like "view movies and slideshows (maybe pictures to) on your larger screen".

It's unfortunate that people need to find out the wrong way about products that should do more.

Apple releases far too many products that are limited...I wanted a cinema display until I found out it to is limited...for shame Apple...for shame.

    No way to charge

I make heavy, almost constant use of my iPad in my class (sometimes four hours at a time). I can't connect to an external power supply while I'm using my adapter. It's a great product but that one missing idea really puts me back at square one. It's fantastic for shorter periods of time.

Plugged it in to my iPad2, connected in the VGA cable the adapter, and immediately displayed my iPad2 screen through the projector. Could not have been simpler. Classic Apple simplicity.

    Not very useful

    • Written by from Bragg Creek

Like the others, I figured it would output all that was on the iPad's display. I was disappointed when it didn't, but thought I could at least watch a movie on my TV. Nope, the movie I bought directly off iTunes "cannot be played on an external display". Since that, I have tried the thing twice more and haven't been able to get it to output video at all from any app or video - including videos I've taken myself and imported to the device.

    Fail, Apple. Fail.

Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this useless cable. The product description says you will be able to watch movies and slideshows. But it does not say that you will not be able to watch your purchased itunes movies. If you are looking to watch your purchased movies from itunes DO NOT BUY THIS CABLE. Complete BS!! I wish I could give it no stars.

I was disappointed to find that I can't project Safari to VGA in my classes. I was hoping to be able to replace my Mac Air. I know I assumed I would be able to and didn't even think to check.

    READ this BEFORE You BUY!

    • Written by from Lockbourne

This product totally disappoints because it is very limited in USE.
Only can play very , very selected movies.... I have not been able to find a movie it can play incidentally!
Those you purchase from iTUNE does NOT get projected ! You get a message telling you it is not authorized to project the movie!!!
If you want to play TV shows from iTune, seemed to work. Not sure what the logic is allowing TV shows but NOT movies you purchased legally?
Also, if you had purchased your own DVD movie and ported to iTune library, guess what it does NOT play as well! Only good for Slide shows and CANNOT project any APPS whatsoever!
Like all those who has left review, I am feeling utterly CONNED!

The adapter does NOT show what is on the iPad, it only displays content that apps support. I wish I knew the limitation when I got it - this is going back. It appears this is only supported with Photo slideshows, Youtube videos, and keynote presentations.

The is a great adapter for the iPad2 but it gets a bad rap.

    • Written by from Grass Valley

Most of the negative reviews if this adapter are for the iPad1 and do not apply to the iPad2. The iPad2 has full mirroring of the screen display and can be used to show TV, youtube, and movies projected to a TV screen or computer monitor via the VGA input in full screen mode at 1080p. You can select 4x3 or 16x9 display as appropriate. It will work with projectors as well. It does not do sound but you can easily use the headphone jack for that.

This is the cheapest adapter will full video functionality for an iPad 2 and also the most versatile. VGA input is on almost every screen these days.

    Almost useless

    • Written by from salvador

I purchased a few hours ago and feel stupid for it
You can't even see on the iPad what is on display on projection, because it doesn't mirror the slides. You have to guess the location of buttons on your black screen iPad to interact with anything.

I feel fooled and want to warn you: I can't think for a single reason why anyone could possibly want the product.
For me it is useless. And worse, in Brazil it costs 70 dollars and there is no return garanteed.

I will have to beg, cry, blackmail, whatever... In order to get rid of it

    It works great!

    • Written by from Brookings

I read what everyone else wrote. They just decided to soon that it did not work but it does!
I downloaded an app called VGA Expedition which mirrors and it is a browser with Bookmarks. I think it was .99 cents. I can see anything and everything with that app while plugged into my projector. Without it you can see videos, movies from Netflix and Keynote presentations. Add the app and you can see anything and everything you want!!

    Misleading and limited functionality.

    • Written by from MURRIETA

The adapter does what it says, but it makes it sound as if it were VGA output for **anything** being displayed by the iPad.

Instead, it is limited to the apps that allow video output and the ones that Apple provide.

The reason it is misleading is because these limitations are not listed in the product description--not even as a note.

In my opinion, save $29 and move on.
