    nice idea, way to limited

    • Written by from Johnstown

As others have said, its a great little adapter but you are so limited on what you can display its nearly pointless. Keynote will display, the photo album works, 2screens is what I have used to show pdfs and websites. I cant play any of my iTunes digital copies, cant display the desktop or home screen. Safari? No YouTube? No Numbers? Pages? No and No Ibooks? nada. Angry Birds? nope.

Nothing wrong with the adapter, apple has just restricted the apps to much for what ever reason. Who knows, maybe they will open things up a bit in the future but at the moment its better to run a netbook or laptop on a projector than the iPad.

Picture on LCD TV goes to one side

    • Written by from LA VERGNE

Video shown from your ipad to your LCD TV monitor shows up far off to the side causing any full screen video to be cut off the side. It's a bad deal they don't seem to ever address fixing. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, what can be done about it?

I should have done more research before I bought this product. I was planing on doing a demo of the iPad for our computer user's group and using the VGA adapter to project the iPad screen to the wall. But since the VGA adapter only displays movies and photos, it's kind of useless for me.

Do not buy unless you only want to watch some movies

Disappointing. Apple needs to be more up front and informative.

This would be great if it was supported at the os level not the app level. I was planning on using the iPad and vga cord in place of a smart board in my classroom. It would be a great solution. Half the cost. Newer technology and another way to use apples in the classroom.
Alass my plans are in ruins unless this feature comes in a future update ( crosses fingers)

    Does not work as promised

    • Written by from Vancouver

Today I went to the Apple store. I explained to them that I needed a connector for my iPAD so that I could demo an application from the iPhone onto a monitor.

I explained to them that my daughter had created an iPhone application and that she had a TV interview the following day to demo the application.

Unfortunately the device does not work as promised.

Now I am struggling to find a new solution.

Does it (will it eventually) work with Safari?

Very disappointed with the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter. It should at least be supported by the apps that come with the iPad

    Are you Kidding me??!!??

    • Written by from Edina

This adapter only works with the slide show? It was never advertised as such and I specifically bought the adapter with the intent on using this in my business. I am trying so hard to get the iPad accepted as a legitimate computing platform in my company and I feel I am now at a dead end. Was planning to outfit entire sales force with these instead of a PC. Better cancel that order for 200 iPads.

Please fix this. And please give us the ability to rate a negative number.

Suckered like the rest of us

    • Written by from Englewood

I purchased the adapter with the intent of using a projector to display the iPad screen. Obviously no such luck and I wasted $30. Regardless of software that may or may not support VGA display, why doesn't Apple offer a patch to the operating system that allows VGA display that mirrors the iPad display? That is a customer expectation and is critical to quality.

Apple should be ashamed of selling this useless product

    • Written by from Dobbs Ferry

Apple should truly be ashamed of itself for selling this useless product. If I hD the opportunity to give minus stars it woudl be minus six stars. Useless, waste of time. How can Apple do such an irresponsible thing nd put thsi useless accesory to its site? I purchased a film from iTunes store, paid money hoping that I coudl watch the film on big screen TV but the message indicates that "the connected display is not authorized to play protected mpvies". This useless adapter lets you watch the previews without any problem but when you pay for the real deal, it does not work. This is irresponsible at best. I M very disappointed with Apple. By the way, the suppot site is totally useless as well. I could not f ind a single answer to my problem and I coud not contact a held desk place to ask about my problem. This si probably the ast accesory that I'm purchasing dor my iPad and I will spread the wprd in my network that the accesories are totally useless. Thanl you Apple for ruining my new year night I will never forget this night!

I bought a 550 dollar LCD projector for the sole purpose of using my iPad to demonstrate my presentations! I bought the iPad for that purpose! Received the projector and purchased the apple VGA adapter. What a disappointment and a waste of the price of the iPad, the adapter, and the LCD projector!! Please do a better job of advertising the limitations of this setup!!!

only displays some photos with the slideshow. most movies bought thru itunes and digital versions of purchased blue ray and dvds are blocked from display with the adapter. it will not display anything else like web pages or calanders or even the home screen. should be included with the ipad and iphone and touch at no extra cost because it does almost nothing.

    Totaly Usless

    • Written by from Burlington

First of all, it does not allow you to see most of your apps on the monitor. Second of all, the movies you buy from Itunes wont work because of DRM. So it basically does nothing. A complete and total rip off

Yet another example of Apple's paternalistic behavior

    • Written by from Chicago

Keynote works awesome with this product.

However, if you want to show pictures, it only works in slideshow mode which means you can't advance images at your own pace or pick out individual pics to show. Stu. Pid.

Only a few of my movies will show. The other won't play because apparently my projector isn't an authorized device...even though they're movies I got from iTunes. DRM issues apparently. Which means basically the only one I can watch are ones I rip myself...probably not the intended result of this limitation.

Just terrible product decision yet again by Mr. Mock T.

Wish I had checked here before buying this.

    • Written by from Covington

I am very disappointed with this product. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Apple feels they need to control what I can and cannot project from my IPad. I bought this to be able to connect my IPad to my LCD projector for presentations, and videos. It will allow me to use Keynote, but wont allow me to watch the digital copies of my movies I have uploaded to my device.

I have always owned PCs and the IPad was my first foray into the world of Apple. Apple port ays itself as being about ease of use and freedom, but they are not about freedom at all, they are about control.

Apps which support the VGA Adapter

    • Written by from München

Important: this adapter DOES NOT display all iPad content and mirror the screen as one would expect. Unfortunately, Apple does not clearly advertise that the support for this piece of hardware banks on software implementations of the apps used. Furthermore, apple has only very limited support for its own apps that ship with the iPad.
So, here are the apps that support the adapter:
    - Apple Video App
    - Apple Photo App (only in presentation mode)
    - Goodreader: sports a toggle icon for VGA output, display of files (PDF, JPG, GIF, DOC, XLS..) AND: surfing the web (within Goodreader) - the best implementation for VGA-out I've seen so far
    - iDesk Pro (advertised in iDesk Lite - not tested)
    - iThoughts HD (mindmaps with 3 different resolutions, zoom support)
Hopefully, Apple will reconsider its strategy for hardware add-ons in the future!
