    Excellent Product!!!

    • Written by from Glenside

I was impressed with the quality of this product. I needed the cable to hook my iPad 2 up the smart board in my classroom. I tested it on an old monitor from 1995 and it mirrored the iPads screen exactly. The reason some people gave it bad reviews was because they used it on an iPhone ,iPod touch, or iPad 1. It only plays videos and slideshows with those. The iPad 2 has full mirroring and it plays part of a pod sat that I wanted to show. Works great with keynote( love the laser pointer by the way)and all of the other apps. Very satisfied, I give it 5 stars.

    Accessory Works

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I just purchased this accessory tonight and it works great with my iPad 2. I agree JV from Portland in not listening and not agreeing with those having problems and leaving a 2-star rating. Those who have problems should READ BEFORE THEY PURCHASE or ask a salesperson for assistance that is what they are there for.

    Works great

Not sure what everyone is complaining about but this product works great! I haven't found an app yet that doesn't work. The only thing so far is the IPad won't output a protected movie through the iPad port.

    Works for ipad2

    • Written by from Portland

Product works perfectly for iPad2. All screens are displayed and all apps can be projected. Those that are having problems are using the original iPad. If you are thinking of buying this and have a ipad2 do not let the 2 star rating fool you. It works perfectly!

    Limited capabilities

    • Written by from Ballwin

I bought this for use with my iPad 1 and I was disappointed by the limitations. Netflix app works great but I can't play movies I've purchased on iTunes? I don't understand the reasoning behind this especially since it seems iPad 2 can do mirroring. If anyone at apple reads these please fix this problem, why can't iPad 1 support mirroring as well?

Does not support itunes movies from iphone 4 to projector

    • Written by from Ottawa

I don't understand why itunes movies won't work with this adapter. I had planned an outdoor movie night with family and put a number of movies on my iphone 4 to use as part of the event. The itunes movie I planned on showing didn't work - there was a message about the device not being supported. However, luckily I had put some non-itunes movies on the iphone, movies that were downloaded from the internet. Those ones worked and it looked awesome. So if you get this device make sure you get your movies by downloading them from the internet and not by purchasing them on itunes. Apple should resolve this issue through a software update on devices.

    Works perfectly

    • Written by from Lincoln University

Works perfectly! I can show Keynote presentations and files via GoodReader on the projector at work, and with the iPad 2 it'll mirror nearly any app as well. The original iPad doesn't have mirror capability but certain apps do support the secondary display (Keynote, GoodReader, Atomic Borwser, YouTube to name a few).
Doesnt seem to use much, if any any, additional battery to drive the secondary display, either.
    I'm very pleased. 5 stars.

Great adapter, must for all ipad/ipods/iphones

    • Written by from Burlingame

I got this adapter to do a presentation in language arts at my school, and it works great. It even adjusted the resolution to fit that of the projector. It is definetly a must for someone who does presentations from an ipad or iphone or ipod. There are no flaws, except that a port for charging would be nice, but otherwise its perfect.

Doesn't work with iphone 4 and ios 4.3

    • Written by from Seattle

I am well aware of the limits of this adaptor and have used it successfully with my iphone 4 and ios 4.2.1 (with 2 VGA monitors). After upgrading to ios 4.3, it stopped working. I did the usual things (rebooted the iphone, etc.) to no avail. I brought it to an Apple store and the "genius" got it to work briefly after a lot of fiddling. He recommended that I reboot the iphone before use with the connector disconnected. I did this and tried every permutation of rebooting with and without the connector attached and had no luck. Hardly the "plug and play" behavior we expect from an Apple product. I await the next ios version (but it might never be fixed, in view of the small number of these items being sold).

iPad 2 - vga works like a charm

    • Written by from Brooklyn

NOTE: These comments apply to the iPad 2 only.

I am very pleased to say that screen mirroring on the iPad 2 works beautifully. Everything you see on the iPad 2 screen is projected through the vga connector. As you rotate the iPad 2, the projected image mirrors it exactly.

Keep in mind that the vga connector is video only. To amplify the sound simply use an audio cable and connect through the external audio out.

The only drawback with this connector is that there is no ability to simultaneously to simultaneously charge the iPad batteries while mirroring through the vga adapter. Because the iPad 2 has a long battery life, this should not generally be an issue if your batteries are fully charged. If you are concerned about the battery life, you can do a couple of things to lower the energy consumption on the iPad 2:

    * You can lower the iPad's screen brightness (found in the iPad's settings).

    * If you do not need to be using the Internet while projecting through the vga adapter, you could try setting your iPade to "Airplane Mode" (also found in the iPad's settings). Apparently there is a certain amount of energy consumed searching for WiFi and 3G signals. So disabling this search (by turning on the Airplane Mode) should lower energy consumption and thereby extend the battery life.

My guess is that lowering screen brightness would really help to extend the amount of time you can view without recharging.

It works well, if you use it for presentations

    • Written by from San Diego

This device works well, no complaints. You have to use it in conjunction with an Application and I've used it with Keynote, Numbers, Good Reader and to play videos onto the projector. It does require knowing how to use it.

It is not a Mirror of the Desktop as stated by the others, but with Keynote it has a finger tip laser system that I think is awesome. Hold you finger on the iPad screen and a laser pointer (simulated) appears on the projection screen.

THe new HDMI cable sounds great for Mirroring the desktop, but none of the projectors I'm using in most meeting rooms have a HDMI input yet. So either way HDMI or VGA there are limitations.

I bought both. VGA for Projectors, and HDMI for connecting to LCD TV sets.

    iOS 4.3 & iPad 2

    • Written by from Seattle

The Apple VGA Adapter works seamlessly with my iPad 2. All the previous reviews no longer apply. I have my iPad 2 mirroring any and all applications using this VGA adapter. Of course, the only limitations (since it's a VGA output only) is no audio and depending on the screen, you'll get "black bars" on the left/right of image because the widescreen limitation can process correctly on most TVs or Projectors, but these are minimal. What you see on your iPad is what you see on the screen AND THAT's ALL WHAT I ORIGINALLY WANTED from this product.

Works well with a few apps

    • Written by from Bonny Doon

On the minus side, the cable is of apparent limited use. The vast majority of apps do not have support for the Apple VGA Adapter.

On the plus side, if all you need is the combo Apple VGA Adapter + a web presentation tool + an iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th Generation, then there are apps for that. Search the App Store for web presentation.

Conclusion: If you need the VGA Adapter to browse the web or play videos, you are in luck ; if you need the VGA Adapter to project your favorite app, make sure that app explicitly supports external screens.

    Limited

    • Written by from Englishtown

As everyone else complains, this is not what it seems (in terms of iphone; it apparently works for the ipad 2). If you wish to project exactly what you see on your iphone; this won't do it. I bought it thinking the adapter works the same way as the laptop. The macbook vga adapter projects the screen of your laptop as is. So I automatically assumed that the same would be true for the iphone vga adapter. Well, I was wrong. Don't be wrong.

This is a very specific product, know what you're buying

    • Written by from San Diego

This product is only useful if you are using it for its intended purpose: to allow apps that are written to create output on the external display to do so. I wouldn't buy this unless I had a specific app that I wanted to use with the external display and that app specifically said that it can provide that functionality if you buy this cable. That's it. It's not good for anything else. You wouldn't buy a microwave oven assuming it can deep fry and make toast. I know Apple makes us feel cozy with technology, but with tech gadgets you really have to do your research before buying.
