    Works for some content

    • Written by from Espoo

Bought it to use my iPad2 with a projector. Should have read the reviews first.. Videos from iTunes will not play. Should be clearly labelled as a limited functionality device!

    Serious presentation limitations

    • Written by from Belmont

    The adapter works.

The adapter only works with youtube and a few other select apps. If you are hoping to use your ipad as a presentation tool (I teach at a university and this is what I was hoping for) you will be extremely upset to find that it doesn't work with most presentation apps ie Prezi etc.

    Buyer Beware!

    • Written by from Palm Harbor

One star only because I cannot rate it at zero! Yes I buy movies from I tunes. I bought my Ipad 2 from Apple. I bought this adapter from apple. Now the rub! It will allow an I tunes purchased movie to play on your TV for about 20 seconds before it stops it, and gives you a pop up that it will not play on a non compatible device??!!! Not what I read in the description!
Totally Disgusted!!! What now, " you must purchase an Apple TV?!!!
    Do Not Buy It!!!

    Poor image quality

    • Written by from SECUNDERABAD

I found that There is a striking amount of image quality loss when my iPad is connected to both LED/LCD projectors. This is really disappointing as the image seen on the big screen is dull and without life when compared to the iPad screen image. This is not so with the pc connected to LCD/LED projectors. Apple must do something about this for the sake of its users.

    Accessory Not Supported...

    • Written by from Tempe

I bought this accessory so that I could use my iPad to teach my lectures through Keynotes. It worked twice perfectly fine. Then, the third time I used it gave me the "This accessory is not supported by the iPad" error. Needless to say, I was glad I had my flash drive as a backup.

VGA Adapter All it Should Be

    • Written by from Grand Rapids

I purchased the VGA adapter for my iPad 2 and a data projector. I wanted to be able to show others how to use the iPad and all the apps. It worked perfectly from the very start. Every app showed on the screen clear and sharp. I did not try to play movies that were converted to the iPad. But photos, apps, settings, mail, everything showed beautifully without any effort.

I load and watch movies on my phone using flex player, This cable allows me to output video to any screen with a vga input. Works perfectly! The only complaint I have is why this cable would not support charging as well.

Can't play movies downloaded from iTunes

    • Written by from Porto Alegre

The only purpose I bought the cable was to watch movies on my TV. My surprise, however, is that we can't play "protected movies" on the TV with this cable.

    Not what I had hoped

    • Written by from Brielle

I went out a bought this cable as well as downloading a movie from iTunes for the purpose of a presentation in a graduate class. When I gotto class I got it all hooked up, but cannot play the movie due to copyrighting? Youtube is missing the scenes I need, but it does work to play through theh VGA (I guess no copyright problem there) so I wasted 30 bucks on the connector then another 10 on the movie, and I am stuck just using the DVD for the movie clips. I was told it works through AV, but I don't have that option with our classroom technology. This is an issue that needs to be fixed or at least pointed out on the packaging of the connector, or in the information somewhere. It ran netflix through, but not amazon. I am sure having the connector will come in handy at some point, but I would have liked to know it wouldn't work for the purpose I purchased for

    Works great

    • Written by from Fort Collins

I'm using this with an iPad 2, fully updated to iOS 5.1.1 and ALL apps (including DirecTV, videos purchased on iTunes, YouTube, Safari, Angry Birds, etc...) work just fine when connected to a monitor, widescreen TV, or projector. Keep in mind that it may not adjust the resolution to fit the TV so you might have black bars on the sides and such. DirecTV and videos seem capable of scaling to 16:9 aspect ratio of the TV.

The plug does come out pretty easily so it's best if you can just leave the iPad sitting flat on a stationary surface. VGA does not transmit sound so if you want to watch videos, you'll have to plan ahead or listen through the iPad.

I've also used this with an iPod Touch 4th Gen and the results are the same as with the iPad2.

    False advertising!

    • Written by from FARMINGTON HILLS

Although the advertising states that the product will "mirror whatever is on your iPhone or iPad," I found that, in actuality, it only works on a limited number of apps made by Apple itself. For example, although my YouTube app that came with my iPhone projects video onto my TV just fine, most everything else does not project to my TV. Further research on the web indicates that support for video out for third-party (i.e. not Apple) apps is entirely up to the developer, which makes sense but was not what was advertised. I cannot get Safari to work, either, and that is a native Apple app!

    VGA connector...awsome

    • Written by from Austin

I got this connector few days back. And it is wonderful. My displays (acer HD 3D projector, Samsung LCD) are acting like mirrors to my iPad. What i am seeing on my iPad is displaying on the screen. But all the videos are playing only on the screen not on iPad.

"This accessory is not supported" displays even though I have an app specifically for VGA out. It worked the first time I hooked it to a projector, then would never sync up. Epic failure!

    Can't play DRM-protected movies

    • Written by from BRIGHTON

Wasted 40 minutes going to the Apple store in person to buy this product, because I wanted to watch on a big screen a movie I had rented on the iPad. Discovered only after I got home that the iPad won't play DRM-protected videos through the VGA adapter. It'd be nice if they documented it in the product description, which I _did_ take the time to read carefully before going to the store to buy it!

    Good but has some flaws

    • Written by from BECHTELSVILLE

I enjoy this to watch youtube videos on my flatscreen and play games on a larger screen. The sad thing is that the cable barely stays in the port and it falls out farely easy, making it difficult to concentrate on the game because of worry the cable will fall out, another problem I had was that they dont describe what cable you need for an extension. I bought a male to female cable but after trying to connect it I realised I needed a male to male cable to hook it up to my TV. So its a good product it just has some cosmetic flaws.

    VGA Adapter works well...however

    • Written by from Victorville

I purchased the VGA adapter for my new iPAD to show downloaded movies that a relevant to my class. The iPAD was projected on the video projector with no problem. However, when trying to display the video, an error message appeared CANNOT PLAY MOVIE: The connected display is not authorized to play protected movies. I tried several iPAD movies and received the same messages. I then tried to play the ultraviolet movies that were downloaded and they played perfectly. I contacted service and they seemed unaware of this problem. Unfortunately, if you read internet blogs, the problem has been around for a couple of years. Apple also states that iPAD will display movies on video projectors with the VGA adapter, but does not state clearly that copywrite protected movies downloaded from iTunes will not play. =(
