lets face it this product does not work. You have about a 1 in 7 chance that your sd card will read. Just read the reviews, you will see. Apple, what are you doing with this product? why didn't you test it? saddens me you would slap your name on this piece of shat.

    Does not work

I have tried the one connector to connect to the ipad 2 and then slip in the SD card. It says my card is damaged but when I plug the card into the computer, the pictures are just fine.

I tried using the other connector to connect to the iPad 2 and then put in the san disk connector with disk card, it tells me that the device uses too much power.

I tried using the usb cables that cane with my camera to hook into the iPad 2, again, nothing happens.

I strike out in all cases. What a waste of time and money.

No longer works under iOS 4.2

This product worked fine with my Olympus and Nikon cameras as well as several thumb drives before the upgrade to iOS 4.2. Now everything results in “The connected USB device requires too much power". This makes it useless.

    Even worse than I expected

No official instructions and it turned out to be just another Apple control rip-off, overpriced and does not work; what's worse you don't know it won't work until you've paid for it because neither the box nor any Apple publication on the web tell you of its limitations. I bought it hoping to effortlessly transfer files to and from my iPad, of course this is not possible except in very specific circumstances. I'd be happy with it if I could just upload photos from my memory stick or camera, but this is not possible unless I create specific subdirectories and use a very low powered USB stick. Too much faffing around. The UI is bad enough with the iPad, despite what Apple believe, but the camera connection kit is possibly the worst consumer experience I've ever had. Is it too much to ask that I can use my iPad on the move to show my photos to friends or shall we continue to have to squint at the 2" display on my camera?

Failed right out of the package

USB Adapter did not recognize my SD cards UNTIL I moved the SD card's "LOCK" switch to "LOCKED". Only then did iPad display a message: "Card May Be Damaged". Tried it with multiple SD cards.

CAMERA Adapter displayed this message: "Accessory not available, uses too much power". Huh? The camera battery was fully charged, my iPad was fully charged.

I'm taking it back to my friendly Apple store in Honolulu.

Don't spend your money on this!

I've tried the Camera Connection Kit a couple of ways now.

    SD Card reader works great.

USB/Camera cord adapter works great with iPhone.

USB/Camera cord adapter also works great with my old 6-in-1 USB memory card reader, I've got an ancient digital camera that uses SmartMedia cards, camera works great and takes great pictures; I wanted to be able to plug the USB card reader into the iPad, no one at local Apple Store could tell me if it would work.

    Well, it does!

I can now see taking my iPhone and iPad together as a pretty complete 'lightweight' computing option on trips, with the Connection Kit! Can take pictures and video with the iPhone 4, use it as 'Hotspot' and mail/compute with the iPad!

Tried reseting, restarting ipad 2... I exchanged connection kit thinking it was defective.. Also bought a new SD card thinking that surely was the Problem!!! NOPE!!! Then I did my research.. Started reading REVIEWS... Guess What I Found OUT!! RESTRICTIONS RESTRICTIONS!!!
APPLE GET A LIFE!! Restrictions are for FREE not PAID for items!! I Paid $699.99 for MY ipad 2 (which I Love very much)!! Then bought a $29.99 Connection Kit (which I Returned for a REFUND) that will not work because Some APPLE wants Restrictions!! All I want to do Is put MY STUFF on MY ipad 2! If desktops and laptop companies did the same thing they probably would probably restrict loading to ipads from itunes....It Works BOTH Ways!!! Let people buy your products and USE THEM...NOT BORROW THEM... People will buy even more extras...

Very strange apple!! I have the same problem that lots of others seem to have !
My Ipad has never recognised either of the adapters,, even from new ! I have tried many different cards and two camera leads, and the best I have ever got was once it told me that the device drew too much power....
what happened to ' we don't want to ship rubbish products...' this is a very poor product attempting to overcome a distinct oversight in the design of the ipad.

The SD reader doesn't work if you have an SD card with pictures organized in folders or with large flenames,
Really only works if you put your pictures on a folder called DCIM and your filenames are 8.3 named (like DOS), Very bad experience.,Also the manuals and specifications doesn't say helpfuill information.

With Usb kit i can't read memroy disk. ouch!!! and again, manualas and specifications don't help to get solutions they only have comercial and very limited information..

Im disapointed for this limitations and for documentation.

I bought this thinking that I can transfer photos from my computer to my ipad via SD card more easily without going through itunes since it always require making extra folders and messing up my own organizational scheme. Like in the case of a previous reviewer, this dumb adapter only allows transfer of photos that is saved DIRECTLY from your camera, NOT your computer. Why make this restriction when it is completely UNNECESSARY! I have so many photos that I want to transfer to my ipad without messing with itunes. Thus, I am returning this product as soon as possible! DO NOT buy this product unless you're thinking of really just transferring photos straight from your camera, nothing else.

A must have for iPad owners

This is a must if you intend to take your iPad along with your digital camera. The pictures transferred from my SD card into the iPad very fast and the user interface is nice.

The USB connector did not work with my 3G iPhone. Not sure why but neither the iPhone nor the iPad recognized the other. Of course I changed the cable and made sure connections were tight. No luck. So, if you have a 3G iPhone, take a note of this issue.

Finally, the only complaint I have about this product is the way it's packaged. The two connectors come in a little tiny box and inside a plastic envelop that is open from both ends. Just exactly where does Apple think we are going to store this little, easily misplaced connectors? And why not combine both of them in a single connector?

I bought the iPad camera connection when it 1st released. I've quick edited many family and friend photographs using photo editing apps purchased in the app store. The ability to do a quick sample edit before editing in photoshop on my Mac was a great tool to save myself time. The high res of the iPad WAS an invaluable tool in bettering my portrait photography.
It's been a while since I've had the need to do an moble edit, only to return to find my iPad no longer recognizes either the direct SD adapter nor the IPAD TO CAMERA connection!!!!!!
I am very disappointed!!! Apple please fix this!!

Both connectors work with most cameras and external devices, however IT would be nice to allow thumb drives to connect so that when we don't have a computer or we are in an area of the world without mobile data /3G/4G, we can access our info. Currently this is not possible with the limitations in iOS4x. Also if you happen to be using DACs there have also been issues using async usb output from the device due to current restrictions.

    ---- PLEASE FIX THESE ISSUES!
