camera connection kit very very disappointing tool

    • Written by from Emmen

    Absolutely wortless piece of equipment.

I would really love to see my carefully edited pictures on the iPad so I placed some pictures on an SD card, card in iPad camera connection kit,..... nothing happens......
Turns out, photo's have to be in a folder called DCIM, ok that I can do but the next restriction is that all photo files have to have exactly 8 characters aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhh
I rename my pictures so they have meaningful names and the iPad will not read them !!!

Next I tried putting photo's on an USB stick........iPad says it draws too much current !!!!

Jesus, I expected this tool to help me get pictures on the iPad in a convenient way.

Apple !, do something about this, this is not working at all. Not worth one star.

I will send this very very poor an very disappointing product back.

    So, you've been warned.

    Best regards

    Needs CF support

    • Written by from Carlsbad

I shoot with Canon 5D and the iPad supports RAW, but not the card my camera uses. Would get this and an iPad 2, but what gives Apple? Forgetting the professionals? Again.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from La Crescenta

I just wasted my money. Every time I try to use this I'm told I can't because it requires too much power even though the iPad is fully charged.

    Doesn't recognize

    • Written by from Fort Lee

This connection kit doesn't recognize my SD card, neither my camera with USB cable...
I brought my camera, iPad and connection kit to my trip as I take LOTS of pictures. For the first 3 days of my trip, this connection kit worked OK but after that.... No reaction. I was going to move my pictures from my camera to iPad. NO reaction.
I waited, waited, and waited for 10 minutes. NO REACTION AT ALL.
As a result, I had to take less pictures just to save the memory card and my trip has ended.
I am wondering if I get this exchanged or fixed.

    Your Device is not supported

    • Written by from Antioch

Canon 20D should be supported, and it used to, but now it (the iPad popup dialog) says this s not a supported device. I also tried with the Lexar UDMA CF card reader and it says the device needs more power to use. That used to work also. Confused.

    Camera -SD Card connectors

    • Written by from Cranberry Township

I have about 500 pictures I wanted to upload using the SD card connector.
My iPad only reads 2, not the smallest not the largest.
I have no clue why does not read the others. All are JPG but some were edited with Adobe
I have change the files to an older SD after reading the comments that does not work with the newer ones. Same results.
Would it be that the Adobe edit affected them and if so can something be done?

    Broken with iOS 4.2

    • Written by from Long Beach

Like many other reviews, iOS 4.2 broke this.

    What doesn't work:
    1. Card reader that worked fine with previous versions. Now when connecting a simple card reader (Sony model mrw62e), it says it can't power the device.
    2. SD card reader. I have an Olympus Stylus 1030SW that uses an xD memory card. I transfered my pictures to an SD card, thinking that I could now import them. No luck. If you dig into the Support forum, the fine print warns that the SD reader will only read the original media/files from the camera, not a copied file.

    What works:
Nothing that I have tried. Am on vacation and had counted on this to import/edit/post pictures. Now out of luck.

DO NOT GET UNTIL APPLE FIXES ISSUES

    • Written by from Hickory Hills

Yeah, it works, partially. The SD card adapter works once, then I have to reset my iPad 2 to connect another SD card. It doesn't do anything otherwise. And yes, I waited the 30 seconds. The USB adapter is nearly useless thanks to Apple. Most cameras and phones will not connect to transfer pictures and videos. Why? They draw too much power, and I'm not wasting more money in getting a powered-up USB port when my iPad should handle it. Thanks Apple, for making such an amazing idea terrible!

    Seriously!!!

    • Written by from Woodbridge

Almost everything I connected to it I got the message that the USB device requires too much power!!!! I'm simply trying a an 8gb USB stick... Not a fridge

Based on my research, i found that this was done on purpose by apple. Apparently before the power restriction this waste of my money was quite useful. I need to be able to connect a USB stick otherwise there is no need for the USB port.... Don't sell it if it's useless

    Compact flash support please

    • Written by from Navan

I thought I was being clever, and checked this out before I bought the kit.
Don't get caught out by the reviews and YouTube videos you can't use this with compact flash anymore, apparently all the reviews are based on iOS 3.2 and apple have limited the power from iOS 4.2.
Please please give us compact flash support, even if it's a separate adapter.

    I expect more from Apple

    • Written by from West valley city

I was really looking forward to trying the IPAD camera kit out....needless to say it's borderline worthless. Not only is it limited in what it will work with, it's also unpredictable. One minute it works fine with my camera, the next it doesn't. Don't waste your time or money.

Disappointment - I completely agree with the below by Gary from Fort Worth

    • Written by from Toronto

I received the kit in the mail. Hooked the USB card reader to my iPad. 3rd generation and received error message this device draws too much power. Tried several different brands of USB keys and still received same error message drawing too much power. This was a total waste of money! If you have to use the adapter with a powered USB hub then that is fine but apple should disclose that the iPad will not power a USB key and you must use a powered USB hub to make the kit work. I have several thousands pictures I wanted to transfer from a USB and now it seems I just wasted my money. Very disappointed. I spefically ordered this kit from apple to avoid cheap knock offs and still received a product that is not useable. This product should be removed from sale on the apple store.

Would be great if it worked (Poor compatibility)

I tried this on multiple devices with my ipad 3 and in each case got the error 'not enough power for this device'. Others have had this problem too.

    Not Compatible to all cards

This device does not work with SD XC cards. Have to connect the camera to the Macbook Pro to download/edit files. I will be forced to use slower cards with less GB to use the device with ipad. Disappointing.

    does not work

    • Written by from Chattanooga

lets face it this product does not work. You have about a 1 in 7 chance that your sd card will read. Just read the reviews, you will see. Apple, what are you doing with this product? why didn't you test it? saddens me you would slap your name on this piece of shat.

    Does not work

    • Written by from Schnecksville

I have tried the one connector to connect to the ipad 2 and then slip in the SD card. It says my card is damaged but when I plug the card into the computer, the pictures are just fine.

I tried using the other connector to connect to the iPad 2 and then put in the san disk connector with disk card, it tells me that the device uses too much power.

I tried using the usb cables that cane with my camera to hook into the iPad 2, again, nothing happens.

I strike out in all cases. What a waste of time and money.

No longer works under iOS 4.2

    • Written by from Crownsville

This product worked fine with my Olympus and Nikon cameras as well as several thumb drives before the upgrade to iOS 4.2. Now everything results in “The connected USB device requires too much power". This makes it useless.

    Even worse than I expected

    • Written by from Woodford Green

No official instructions and it turned out to be just another Apple control rip-off, overpriced and does not work; what's worse you don't know it won't work until you've paid for it because neither the box nor any Apple publication on the web tell you of its limitations. I bought it hoping to effortlessly transfer files to and from my iPad, of course this is not possible except in very specific circumstances. I'd be happy with it if I could just upload photos from my memory stick or camera, but this is not possible unless I create specific subdirectories and use a very low powered USB stick. Too much faffing around. The UI is bad enough with the iPad, despite what Apple believe, but the camera connection kit is possibly the worst consumer experience I've ever had. Is it too much to ask that I can use my iPad on the move to show my photos to friends or shall we continue to have to squint at the 2" display on my camera?

Failed right out of the package

    • Written by from Ewa Beach

USB Adapter did not recognize my SD cards UNTIL I moved the SD card's "LOCK" switch to "LOCKED". Only then did iPad display a message: "Card May Be Damaged". Tried it with multiple SD cards.

CAMERA Adapter displayed this message: "Accessory not available, uses too much power". Huh? The camera battery was fully charged, my iPad was fully charged.

I'm taking it back to my friendly Apple store in Honolulu.

Don't spend your money on this!
