    Good device for photos

I purchased this kit before a trip to London/Paris. I decied to go without my usual laptop to download my pictures each day. Instead I took my iPad and this connector kit. The iPad, via the SD part of the kit, downloaded the images into my iPad 64G device without and modifications using the RAW format from my Nikon. When I did get home, I easily imported the photos into Apeture for editing, etc. Without this device I would have needed my laptop which I didn't want to lug around. I would recommend this device for this purpose alone.

    iPad Camera Connection Kit

I just received the Camera Connection Kit yesterday. I was, easily, able to transfer photos from a Canon G10 to my iPad. I then removed the SD card from the camera and directly connected the SD via the SD memory card connection device and, again, was able to transfer photos easily to my iPad.

I then experimented with a USB connected, multi-format, memory card reader. I connected the memory card reader via the same USB cable that I used for the camera to iPad transfer and was able to read and transfer images from a "compact flash" memory card which I use on my Nikon D200 and D700 SLR cameras.

Though I've not done it, yet, I plan to try to transfer photos and data files from a USB flash drive. I suspect that will work, also.

Bottom line, I think this pair of devices will be quite useful. . . even beyond what Apple has advertised!

    Waste of money

I received the kit in the mail. Hooked the USB card reader to my iPad. 3rd generation and received error message this device draws too much power. Tried several different brands of USB keys and still received same error message drawing too much power. This was a total waste of money! If you have to use the adapter with a powered USB hub then that is fine but apple should disclose that the iPad will not power a USB key and you must use a powered USB hub to make the kit work. I have several thousands pictures I wanted to transfer from a USB and now it seems I just wasted my money. Very disappointed. I spefically ordered this kit from apple to avoid cheap knock offs and still received a product that is not useable. This product should be removed from sale on the apple store.

I almost didn't by this because of the reviews here. However I bought it and they work just fine. I have an Extreme 8gb Sandisk card that unloaded with no problems whatsoever. The other adapter worked fine as well. I highly recommend this product.

Just bought a Nikon S9300 and the iPad Camera Connector Kit. If one of the two had to fail, I'd choose the connector kit, because it did. "Device requires too much power" or some such nonsense. As if I have to time for this. How do you sell a product that a customer can't use?

This works exactly as stated! Plug it in, insert either a Compact Flash or SD card (up to 32GB in size) and boom, you're images are viewable on the iPad. It's easy, it's inexpensive and it's extremely convenient. If you're a photographer on the go and clients require instant review of your images, this is what you need.

Mine used to work before the ios5 upgrade. Now, always says USB device not supported. Sometimes when I go to iPhoto's the camera will show, other times not. If I power down it seems to help! Frustrating for sure.

    Photo transfer is a problem

I just purchased ipad2 and Photo kit, which is difficult to use. If you take pictures on ipad2 it is great. Transfering from SDHC, XD or from memory sticks is problamatic..
Furthermore when you take a new picture and want to add to an existing album, it is not enabled. The manual conceals more than it reveals re photo application. .

I have an original ipad, and I bought the camera connecton kit. It worked perfectly for a few months, but since I upgraded to ios 5.1 it now does nothing. It is not recognised at all - not even an error message. I tried plugging it into my iphone, in the hope that it might work there. It did not, but at least I got a message stating - this iphone does not support this device.

Why won't the SD card connection kit work?

I love my I-PAD 2 in many ways. I have a Nikon D-5100 with an excellent high speed 16 GB SD card. Neither the SD card nor the camera connection works. I have a 64 GB wifi & 3G IPAD-2. The same SD kit works with my daughter's 32 GB IPAD 2. The AV connector works great with my IPAD. I don't think anything is wrong with my connector. When I plug in the SD card kit I notice that the card is recognized in settings, but the transfer screen does not come up. I think this is very poor engineering. I feel I am a slave to the poor engineering in the Itunes setup. Apple, can't you make this right?

I'm a huge Apple fan, with that said, why don't iPad users have the ability to plug a usb flash storage (thumb drive) into our iPads and transfer files? The only reason I can see is that Apple doesn't want to give up the ability to sell 3 different iPads based on storage size. Come on Apple, please get back to making devices that made your customers completely happy, not just a little happy. For this reason, I will only give 2 stars to this adapter set.

    Doesn't work with my camera

    • Written by from Alameda

Well, when I say "my" camera, I mean "the camera I use". I shoot weekly videos for a local event, on an HD Canon camcorder. Traditionally, I'd bring the SD card home, pop it into my MacBook Pro, and go to town in iMovie. My main reason for buying the kit was to try doing my video editing on the iPad, but it seems like the format of the videos isn't recognized by the Camera Connection Kit. Big bummer.

Works fine with my raw photos from the Nikon D80, and of course with my iPhone 4. So that's good. But yeah, I really wish I could get the camcorder's videos to offload onto the iPad 2.

SD pictures (JPeg for instance) work fine. In addition to that, it fully supports D3000 and RAW files (.NEF). Could preview all pictures on the iPad and sync later with iMac. Wonderful.

    Constrains iPhone photos to 600x600

I bought this product to transfer photos from my iPhone to my iPad so that I can edit them on the bigger screen of the iPad. Unfortunately, the transferred iPhone photos are constrained to 600x600 for some reason. I am not sure why this product is doing this. As such, I'm greatly disappointed.

Works with my Canon Rebel EOS

I read other reviews from people who could not get the camera connection kit to work with their Canon Rebel. Initially I had the same problem: after connecting my camera to the iPad using a Canon USB device and the kit, the message I got was "USB connection not supported," or some such thing. Of course, the other item in the camera connection kit, designed to enable you to download photos directly from the card, does not accommodate the larger card that the Rebel uses. I was ready to return it to the Apple Store when I decided to try removing the card from my camera, plugging it into the card reader I use to download photos onto my iMac, plugging the card reader into the camera connection kit, and...ta-da! It works! So don't take it back until you give this a try. This seems the perfect solution to the problem of backing up and viewing photos while traveling and avoiding the hassle of lugging a laptop everywhere!

SD memory card interface works great for me

    • Written by from Chandler

I bought this as a way of quickly sharing images when shooting at a venue. I noticed a social change when sharing via the iPad rather than by squinting at the 3" display on the back of my Nikon D90. Seeing the excitement on folks faces when they see 1024x768 images is selfishly rewarding :-)

If I had one complaint, it would be 'why are you obliged to purchase both the SD and USB interface if you only want the SD interface?'. For my style of use, I 'never' attach a camera via USB to anything - why waste the camera battery power. I guess if you don't have an SD memory card compatible camera, you'd use the USB adapter, but not me. So I'd like to see consumers given the option of purchasing either the SD or the USB adapter. Heck - I'd even pay $20 for the SD adapter alone, which means Apple would get even more margin...

Love this accessory for photos. Makes the iPad a perfect photographers companion. connect camera, iPhone or other card readers via USB or use the SD one to read off SD cards. No complaints!
