Nice surprise: It works with an iPhone and GarageBand

    • Written by from kanata

I wasn't expecting this to work when I acquired it with a USB musical keyboard but I can confirm that the USB part of this set works with an iPhone 4 running iOS v7.1 connected to an M-Audio Keystation Mini 32 and GarageBand. So cool!

IPad 3 and Camera Connection Kit - Next level of paid photography

    • Written by from Amherstburg

I am a freelance advertiser and commercial photographer and using the Camera Connection Kit with my iPad 3 ("new" iPad") has been seamless and priceless up to this point. It has allowed me and other photographers to work with clients and view our work on scene like has never before been possible even 5 years ago.

I am worried that upgrading to iOS 7 will ruin it for me so I have not updated my device yet, but apps are switching to it and I will need to catch up eventually.

Can Apple or someone give me a definitive answer.

    Great but...

    • Written by from swans island

I got the CCK with my iPad 2, I used it to download photos from my SD card, iPhone and from my camera, it worked great, I was so pleased with it until I went to download more pictures, it won't recognize that it is plugged in with anything now. However, I believe this is a problem with something that has possibly changed on my iPad and not the fault of the CCK. I still haven't found the problem yet though.

    had to reformat

    • Written by from Cincinnati

I first used this product and everything worked fine with my 32gb memory card. I updated to 6.1 and it stopped being recognized. i did reformat the card in my camera (Canon 60D) and it was again recognized by my Ipad 3.. People are so quick to blame apple, when if you take the time, things do actually work.

    SDXC Cards

    • Written by from San Jose

Using the SDXC card directly in this device did not work for me (exFAT format) but using it through my camera with the camera set to MTP (or PTP) mode and it worked like a champ. Using the standard storage mode did NOT work on my Olympus OM-D M-5.

Formatting with exFAT is for high capacity cards like mine, 64GB and for speed. Makes no sense to use SDXC with FAT.

    iPad & Contour Roam 2

    • Written by from Reading

So easy to use, worked first time, import nice and easy, options to delete from Camera once imported. Only tried 720HD @ 50 fps, but this is the most common setting for action. Retina display is perfect and watching on the TV using Apple TV is great for family viewing. Tip, keep recordings short or edit first and post straight to Facebook.

So Far So Good - SD Photos

    • Written by from APO

I've only tried out the SD Card reader. I hadn't thought about the possibilities that open with the other reader so I'll come back to that in a later review.
I have a Canon Rebel EOS DSLR and a Canon Powershot (I actually use the SD cards in both cameras as well). I also shoot the majority of my photos in RAW format. So I was a little hesitant to think this would really open my photos AND allow me to import and edit. I plugged in the reader and voila! Photos opened, I could select the photos I wanted and import them, then edit in an editor.
I've read multiple reviews that say that it doesn't work, I'm wondering with updates if I'll have problems but my iPad has a version 5 on the software, and my husbands has a version 6. Both have no issues opening the photos from the Photo App. It took me a second to refind the photos but once I started going to the built in Photo App I was able to find them there. - iPad 2, 16G. WiFi only.

    Great product with multiple uses!

    • Written by from Meridian

When I had my blue Kodak camera, this would have been great and I am thankful I could save my thousands of pics using this and the SD reader. I have a new found use of collecting game camera photos for viewing and downloading while still in the woods with no Internet connection, so that I need not collect cards, check on a laptop and bring back later but download to view and not miss a second of camera time on our property. My newer (2y/o) Sony camera has a memory stick pro duo that won't fit the sd and for some reason the USB WILL NOT connect to a camera. When connected it does not recognize it and doesn't work. It will import iphone pics via 30-pin to USB to be edited in iPhoto on the great bigger screen, including panoramas.

It works with iPad mini and lightning to 30-pin kit

    • Written by from Alameda

I used this with my iPad 3 and it worked wonders.
I got the iPad mini and used it with my Lightening to to 30-pin adapter with both the SD card and USB adapter and it works mostly like a charm. The SD card had no issues, but with the USB cable. I had to get a 6" USB cable to work with my camera. I used to be able to use my 12" and above USB cable with no issues. Now it shows that it is drawing too much power. I also used to be able to use my Sandisk USB thumb drive, but same issue now. Overall it serves its purpose and I don't have to now buy two separate Lightening adapters for $30 a piece! I can use my old 30-pin USB cables with the $30 Lightening to USB adapter and the 30-pin camera kit for $30. I hope they don't remove this option in future software/hardware updates.

Side note, thank you Apple for finally bringing the Lightening to Micro USB port adapter. But $19... Wish you brought the 30-pin to Micro USB port adapter to the States.

    Good product, bad instructions

    • Written by from Allen

Don't return it yet !!! It's not plug and play, but by googling I learned the following for using the SD card:

    1. The images on the SD card MUST be inside a folder named DCIM (just like a camera)
    2. The file name CANNOT exceed 8 characters, plus the suffix. Example: 12345678.jpg

Don't ask me why these are the rules..... I was so frustrated....I made sure these rules applied and then it worked perfectly. Works for loading .mp4 files too.

Works great, but not with some cases

    • Written by from Hingham

As a whole, this is a great product that works as advertised. The only issues I found were not with the design of the product itself but with the design of 3rd party cases. I have an Incase Convertible Book Jacket that prevents me from easily inserting the connection kit, most of the time I find it easier to remove the case altogether.

    Worked for Me

    • Written by from Kennewick

I have a first gen iPad and an older Sony camera, went on a trip with both but only 128 MB worth of storage in the camera. Finally found a place that sold the CCK, hooked it up via the USB cable and got the "USB device not supported" message. Frustrated to say the least. Found a post on the Apple customer reviews for the CCK about changing the camera download setting to "PTP", so I did that and it worked just fine. Seems like Apple could have made that a little clearer in the rather skimpy instructions.

works for new iPad and my Canon cameras!

    • Written by from Los Altos

The reviews of this Kit are very mixed, so I was concerned. I'm happy to report that the iPad Camera Connection Kit (MC531ZM/A) worked for my equipment: new iPad, Canon S100 camera, and Canon 40D camera. Note that this is the new kit that doesn't have a USB cable.

The S100 has a 32 GB SD card. The iPad read the SD card both in the Kit card reader and in the camera. I used a USB cable (USB to mini USB) to read directly from the S100 and 40D. No problems. The iPad saw both JPEG and RAW files from both cameras. The 40D has a CF card. I tried using a CF card reader with a USB connection, but the iPad complained, saying that the CF reader took too much power.

I deducted a star because I had to use my USB-to-mini-USB cable to read directly from the cameras.

    Worked great for me

    • Written by from Peekskill

Since I rely on reviews I had read many here some were mixed. I had concerns but went a head with buying the connection kit as it hopefully would fulfill a big need of mine. I cruise a lot and take hundreds of pictures. I always bring my 15" Macbook Pro for email, picture transfer/backup etc. I am looking to eliminate need to take the laptop with me and for that to happen I require a method to backup the photo's off camera card in case of camera loss etc. Turns out using the Ipad as backup coupled, especially with iPhoto app on Ipad makes whole picture thing far more useful that using laptop. Far easier to review and dump photo's don't need and establish the ones to keep.

Bottom line this connector transferred photos and video fast. I was extremely happy in the transfer process. Simply plugged into Ipad then inserted 16gb Ultra card HC I sandisk. Up popped the thumbnails and options, downloaded, even then offers keep or erase on card option. I kept then did it for next days shots, options complete with option to download all or new etc.

Worked fine every time! Note the iPhoto app is not needed to transfer that is done with normal Ipad picture functioning, all automatically just plugging in card.

Came home and for once had already edited down my 350 photo's to 175 thanks to reviewing them on the Ipad. Simply transferred them to my desktop.

    SD card connector

    • Written by from CURRIE

Sd card connects quickly and photos are imported easily. However after the choice to clear the card or keep the photos there is no option to "safely remove" the sd card. Just pulling the card out results in it needing to be formatted in camera before it will work again. Powering down the iPad sorts this as far as I can see.

Is this a common problem or is it just me ?

    Works Great!!

    • Written by from Oakville

Almost didn't buy this product based on some of the reviews and complaints, but was traveling abroad and needed a solution to backup all my photos. Apple has never let me down and this time was no different. This product works great for both my iPad 3 and my iPhone 4; worked the first time out and I couldn't be happier. Have only used the USB connection thus far (with my Canon 50D and iPhone 4) and works like a charm. Completely happy with this product and would recommend.

    Thanks Apple!
