    OK but could be better

This does exactly what it says it will do, and nothing more. Seems like a lot of money to just import photos. It would be nice if you could export photos and files as well, especially to the SD card. Why not?

can't enlarge files until after you upload

It would have been great if you could first view your files larger while they are still on the SD card. I can't tell if I want to keep them because you only get a thumbnail view. You must import them all and then delete them.

    Useful, but...

This works as advertised, but ONLY as advtised. I was hoping that the USB connector would allow me to connect things other than a digital camera or iPhone. Specifically, I have some pictures on Compact Flash cards that I would like to import. But when I tried to plug in a multi-card reader into the USB connecteor, I got an error message saying the power requirements on the usb port were exceeded. Also, i have an 8gb SD card that normally is used in my old Dell Axim pda (remember those?) that I used in a pinch while travelling overseas to copy some friends pictures off her laptop. They were in subfolders under the "my pictures" folder at the root of the SD card. When i plugged the SD card into the adapter the only photos on the card that showed up in the selector screen on the ipad were pictures in the 'DCIM' folder on the SD card. So i copied the folders from 'my pictures' to 'DCIM' and still no go. It seems pictures in subfolders cant be read unless the folders are created by an actual digital camera. So, I'm slightly bummed, but there are always workarounds.....

    iOS 4.2 messed it up

I used to be able to hook it up to my portable Multi card reader to read my CF. Then apple found out that people were able to hook up microphones and keyboards to it, so they cut the power back. Now it it says that the USB devise requires more power than the connection is willing to give out. So only the secure digital card reader works, and not the Compact Flash card reader. It worked before, that is what bothers me.

    Good product but...

If you read any of these review saying a USB keyboard will work with the USB camera adapter, don't believe it. Just tried it to find that the iPad brings up a message saying that "the connected device is uses too much power" and the keyboard remains unresponsive. I tested the is with two separate Apple USB keyboards. However, product works as described by Apple with no troubles. Just a warning to others who may want to use it to connect a USB keyboard.

This thing works only with "designed for iPad" things.

You will not get any problems with any usb-device positioned as an iThing-accessory. But get ready for troubles if you prefer your own usb-keyboard, external HDD, pen-drive or smth similar. Sometime non-ithing-accessories work with iPad, but absolutely no guarantee.
High-powered usb-devices like ext-HDD may start work if an exernally powered usb-hub is used between iPad and HDD, because iPad has a very power-limited usb-port.

    *Sorry for rude English.

    Waster Opportunity

First off these do exactly what they say it will and a "little" more so I'm not going to say exactly what every other review has said. I'll say what the others aren't saying and see if it gets through the screener's:

This is another example of a capable piece of hardware unnecessarily limited by software. There is allot of opportunity for this add-on device that SHOULD give the missing capabilities that were not natively built into the iPad. Unfortunately it only does about 1/2 of what's needed..

I use my iPad mostly for work (and games). The only thing stopping me from switching ALL of my work email, correspondence, etc over to this is its inability to attach a file not created or downloaded from within the iPad. I'm not going to watch movies, listen to music or read books on it. Because of its awesome, simple, portable nature I AM going to use it for all the apps, web surfing, emailing, scheduling, flight planning, mapping, etc.... that it is SO good at! My biggest limitation is the inability to "easily" transfer files from my big 3D desktop workstation to this to email. If I currently need to send a file I have to bring up a clunky web browser based mail client and go that route. It's a pain. I so wanted to be able to copy a ZIP file to a flash drive, plug it in to this USB adapter, copy it to the iPad and attach it to an email to send. Doesn't work. Why? I have no idea. I don't see how adding this simple software feature would hinder itunes sales? It doesn't seem any different than adding a feature just like the current "Photos" or "Videos" accept it would say "Files".

OK, enough ranting. I hope in the near future they add this simple and much needed feature. I'm not holding my breath but I also never thought I would be carrying around 2 Apple mobile devices everywhere I go... and I do.

Good but lacking a huge feature

When plugged into the iPad you can only browse little thumbnails. I often take 4 or 5 pictures to get the right angle. It would be nice to be able to see large versions of the pictures or to be able to quickly show picturess that are on the sd card with out having to import them all.

Very handy but crashes all the time

I've found this very handy when importing 1000's of photos at a time from my DSLR.

It has a blemish though in that if you do anything at all on the iPad while the photos are importing, even just scrolling the display, then the photo app crashes and you have to start over again. I hope they fix this in iOS 4.

Good addition, but why not have a built in slot?

Come on, really, how about a built in USB (even mini port) and SD slot? This would make the iPad so much more usable right out of the gate!
But this is a good substitute for something that should be there in the first place.

    Great but what gives

The CCK works great. I am not sure I understand something though. If I hook up either of my camera's, it will copy the videos and photos and play them on the iPad. This includes AVIs shot with my Canon, and 720p MP4 shot with my Sanyo. This is quite the surprise as I have never been able to play anything but h.264.

What I don't understand is when I hook the iPad up to iPhoto (or my cameras for that matter), it copies the videos off. Then if I put them in an album and try to sync them back to the iPad, iTunes won't sync them. What give? It imported and played the videos just fine. For the last 2 years I have been painstakingly converting all my AVI and MP4 videos to H.264 so the iPhone/iPad can play them. Then I see that it will without conversion, but Apple won't let me. Why?

    adapter for photo cards

The camera kit is great but it really bothers me that you didn't include in the info that you can only use a certain sd card & would need an adapter for other size cards. Why aren't customers given an option to purchase this or at least be informed before purchasing. I assumed from the
sales and order info that any card could be used!

Mixed because of poorly documented limitation

I'd like to give this a good review but there is one glaring problem. This is promoted as a way to get photos from iPhone to iPad. However, you must dig through to support pages HT4101 to find that it does NOT work for the 3G. No error no nothing just doesn't work. Excuse me but the 3G is only one generation old and still being sold. Why is it not supported. At least make it very clear on purchase page and package that it ONLY works on 3GS

need to create DCIM folder in order to recognize photos on SD card

Have two SD cards, who didn't work, but when I created a DCIM folder and put the photos in it, suddenly everything worked. Didn't find any info on the web or the "manual" about this.

Must say though that I would expect a much better user experience from apple. Want to use the iPad to finally go through my 25000 photos and organize them better/delete the bad ones.
