    • Written by from Long Beach

The kit works very well for 32 gb cards, but does not work at all for 64 gb cards.

    Who to blame?

    • Written by from Friendswood

Got a camera kit to read in files off my brand new Sony PJ380 camcorder. Works fine using USB connection and the internal 16 GB of flash. However, wanted to use my 64 Gbyte SDXC card. Sony did not like the format card was originally, so I reformatted in the camcorder. This changed the card to have a 64 gb ExFAT partion. Thereafter, neither the USB or SD card reader worked.Going to try multiple FAT partitions to see if I can get something to work.

I figure Apple should support ExFAT on the iPad, but I suppose I could blame Sony...

    Useless with modern SDs

    • Written by from Saddle Brook

Since modern SDXC cards come formatted in ExFAT, this whole kit becomes completely useless: you can't connect a camera via USB, because it (the camera) also gets charged via USB, so iPad will simply disable the port altogether ("Accessory draws too much power" or something to that effect), and you can't plug the SDXC directly, because iPad apparently can't read ExFAT formatted drives.

ExFAT is the default file system for SDXC for its higher performance features and larger maximum file size supported than the older FAT16 or even FAT32. New HD cameras can't work properly with flash drives formatted in FAT32 (example - GoPro Hero3 Black Edition with ProTune on, or at super-HD resolutions, like 2.7k or 4k), so you have to use ExFAT... Which makes it impossible to preview the footage on an iPad, using this kit.

    AMAZING PRODUCT

    • Written by from Baldwin Park

I BOUGHT MY IPAD USED AND IT CAME WITH A BUCH OF GOODIES SUCH AS THE CAMERA KIT. THE CONNECTIONS WORK FINE THEY'RE AMAZING BUT,

THE BUYERS DON'T REALIZE IS THAT THE SD CARD READER WILL ONLY WORK FOR CERTAIN CARDS. I HAVE NOT FOUND A CARD ADAPTER THAT WORKS FOR THE MICRO SD BUT, FOR A REGULAR SD CARD I KNOW THAT THE "PNY HS SD CARD" WORKS.

THE USB ADAPTER WORKS FINE TOO BUT,

IT DOESN'T WORK FOR PHONES OR CAMERAS THAT DRAW POWER FROM THE USB THAT CHARGE THE DEVICE AND ALSO THAT SOME USB STICKS DON'T WORK ALSO.

THIS IS WHAT I WAS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT AFTER GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER ANOTHER AND ANOTHER. ONCE YOU FIND THE CORRECT ONES THAT ARE CONNECT TO YOUR ADAPTERS THE DEVICE WORKS GREAT. ITS JUST THE HASSLE OF FINDING IT THAT STINKS. LOL

Will not work with lightning, even with 30 pin adapter.

    • Written by from Green Bay

I'd give it 5 stars for its functionality on my iPad, but only penalize it for not being supported by the iPhone 5 even when using an adapter. Why Apple? Why? Love the products, but really hate being gauged on little cords and adapters.

    Works well but....

    • Written by from New York

I take many photographs and when traveling, like to look at them on my iPad because it is better for review than my camera's display (iPad is obviously bigger) and have enjoyed that ability. I recently got an SDXC from SanDisk and I have not been able to use the device. I am not sure if it is a compatibility issue or my card that is causing the problem. The card works on my pc laptop and my iMac, and obviously on my camera. Has anyone else had problems with SDXC cards?

Works fine -- if you can use the card reader one

    • Written by from Alexandria

At first, I tried plugging my card reader into the smaller USB adaptor and got the "This device draws too much power" error. Then I tried inserting one of my SHDC cards (I use PNY Class 10s -- usually the 8 or 16 GBs) into the card plug-in adaptor and it works fine. I haven't had any file name issues as of yet. I actually prefer it this way because now I don't have to drag the card reader along, too. The other morning, I took some pics at the dog park. Later, I stopped at the car wash on the way to work. While I waited, I reviewed my photos and edited the ones I kept. You have to admit that's pretty cool. I think it will make me more likely to grab the camera and take random pictures here and there.

My only complaint is that I would like the option to look at the full-sized image when deciding whether to import a picture. For this reason, I will still depend on the iMac and card reader for processing the complex import jobs. But for quick-and-dirty review/edit jobs -- especially while traveling -- this works pretty well.

    Problems with Ipad 2

    • Written by from 's-Hertogenbosch

On my Ipad first generation kit was working fine, even on the newest software 5.1
Now I am very dissappointed, I purchased an Ipad 2 and nothing works anymore. Looking at info I can see the card reader, but that is all. I tried everything as advised by lot of people, but still no result.
    Any ideas?

    NO image review without importing?

    • Written by from Augusta

Purchased this to review photos on the iPad while travelling, so we wouldn't have to carry a notebook.

Absolutely disappointed that we only get a small thumbnail view and need to import all images in order to get a full screen view.

We just want to review images from the from several cameras with large (8 & 16gb) sd cards; directly fro the sd card. I don't care if there is a small delay to show the next photo ( though our cards are class 6 and 10)

We have had too many hurdles and nightmares with itunes syncing and iphoto library recovery (or lack thereof) and either photo duplication or loss; that we stay as far away from importing and syncing.

All I wanted to do is view directly from the card. Plain and simple. Then when back home copy directly via a card reader to our networked photo drive. No additional importing, deleting, syncing, .... Apple sometimes just has to complicate things and create extra work due to their drive for simplicity and using their own apps only.

Also, the sd card reader should be available separate for $10-15. Have no need for the usb one.

    Great for SDHC

    • Written by from Fairfield

This connection kit has worked really well with my iPad 3, though it does not work with your iPhone. That was a little disappointing.

But to any photographers, if you use a SDXC card, this connection kit will not work. I was really disappointed because I have a 64gb SDXC card with my Nikon D7000, and the SD card reader won't read it. But if you do connect the camera via the USB connection, you can pass your photos that way through your iPad.

    ipad 3 Sony memory stick

    • Written by from Naples

If your trying to use a USB Sony memory stick adapter and inserting into the Apple USB camera adapter you will get error message the device uses to much power and can not be used don't knock yourself out it won't work, I have a Sony cyber shot if you want to down load your photos to iPad 3 connect the cable that comes with your Sony to the USB Apple adapter
then to your camera ( power on camera) then plug the Apple adapter end to iPad 3, if you get an error go to the Sony menue (it may ask you to any way) and switch from mass storage to PTP then follow the prompt you should be fine after that.

Most pictures and minimal video support

    • Written by from Cornelius

OK, I am happy with the devices ability to import pictures from a SD card. The annoying part is it is limited to MP4 and H264 video even though the iPad shoots High Definition. You'd think that if it shoots HD it'll import it too... No such luck. The adapter doesn't even see the HD video from my Sony camera.

Next issue is the USB connector for the camera connection. You'd think that Sony was standard enough to conect, but when connected, the device 'instantly' says the camera takes too much power to connect. Excuse me, but the camera has it's own battery. Why would the iPad even care about that? Let the camera drive itself and just connect.

The only real usable function is the SD JPEG import, unless you still shoot old 30p MP4 video... I don't, I only shoot HD.

    The rest is a waste...

    iPad only…

    • Written by from Le Plessis Trévise

This product do his job, on iPad, as said.
But I hardly understand why this device is not compatible with iPhones.
    Is it related to power?

The ipad camera connection kit no longer works

    • Written by from Saint Johns

I have been using the ipad camera connection kit to import photos from a cf card reader and it has been working fine. After the latest update it no longer imports into an album. I know not all card readers work but this one did in the past. I am going to try connecting directly from the camera but it is not my preferred method. I also don't want to synch from iTunes and my mbp. What has changed? I need this to work.
