    Apple camera connection kit

    • Written by from Pine town

So I too have fallen victim to blindly buying an Apple product on the assumption that it would without question function as intended but instead I get an unwelcome error message about not having enough power when I try to use this device. In short this kit is a uselss waste of money!

Is there anything this kit does work on or any way to get around this problem? Please help!

Get this if you do a lot with photos

    • Written by from Selinsgrove

I have iPad 2. I am disappointed by the quality of photos on iPad 2. This little gadget works well to allow me ro take pics with my Nikon, then quickly load all those pics. onto the ipad and start sharing. My Target store carries it for the same price, but not online...just FYI.

    • Written by from Campbell

Crud - leaving for a big trip tomorrow. thought I'd bring iPad to connect to friends, upload photos, etc. Bought this kit. It does not plug securely into iPad (very loose) and therefore, no connection. How else do upload photos??!!

    Does't work!

    • Written by from CARDIFF

Failed at first hurdle! Plugged the USB cable from my Leica D-Lux4 into my new iPad3 tWhich was faulty as well and ive just had it replaced at the Apple Shop!) my camera says chose Pictbridge or PC, it recognises the PC option and then informes me there are no photos to import...yet if I unplug everything, plug in the SD card reader plug and then insert the 2GB SD card from the same camera it immediately recognises it and lists all the pics on it! Odd! I had high hope for this kit, I'm hoping it doesn't let me down when I try it for the other main reason I bought the kit for, to connect it to a MIDI keyboard, don't feel confident, will update review again when I've had a go. May try it on my old iPad2, just for fun....I'm not holding my breath...my former confidence in Apple products is now shaky!!! Should have read these reviews first, far too many one star reviews!

Works like a charm! Others might not be following instructions

    • Written by from Chapel Hill

The camera kit works beautifully on my Ipad3 with both connectors (using an SD card) and connected to my Canon SX260. I did find I needed to turn various devices on and connect in the order the instructions clearly stated. Some people seemed displeased that they can't use the USB connector to get pictures from a thumb drive or connect a different card reader to it. Apple never suggested this was possible. Some of these devices need power to operate and this device is not intended to provide that power. Plus, apple wasn't providing a way to transfer material from a thumb drive. At least for me, inserting an SD card or connecting it to an appropriate camera works exactly as it should and is a great way to get photos to your Ipad without taking along a computer when traveling

No support for SDXC SD Cards

    • Written by from Flushing

No support SDXC SD cards??? Hello??? My Windows XP recognizes 64GB SD card with old memory card reader and latest camera connection kit doesn't? So typical of Apple to overcharge for products that don't even support standard technologies. This is a terrible product - returning back!

lets face it this product does not work. You have about a 1 in 7 chance that your sd card will read. Just read the reviews, you will see. Apple, what are you doing with this product? why didn't you test it? saddens me you would slap your name on this piece of shat.

Disappointment - I completely agree with the below by Gary from Fort Worth

    • Written by from Toronto

I received the kit in the mail. Hooked the USB card reader to my iPad. 3rd generation and received error message this device draws too much power. Tried several different brands of USB keys and still received same error message drawing too much power. This was a total waste of money! If you have to use the adapter with a powered USB hub then that is fine but apple should disclose that the iPad will not power a USB key and you must use a powered USB hub to make the kit work. I have several thousands pictures I wanted to transfer from a USB and now it seems I just wasted my money. Very disappointed. I spefically ordered this kit from apple to avoid cheap knock offs and still received a product that is not useable. This product should be removed from sale on the apple store.

    What?

    • Written by from EAGAN

I just bought the camera connection kit and plugged it in as described in the instructions. A message came on the iPad screen indicating there was not enough power. This is a fully powered iPad. Not indicating there isn't enough space.....very confused and about to turn around and return the dumb thing.

    Limited

Apple changed the output power from 100ma to 20ma so I cannot use many devices attached to it.

Also assuming it works, it's functionality is really limited.

I hope apple does something with this.

This was a great tool .Both the sd and the usb worked well until recently.
One of my cameras uses a compact flash card which I connected to a card reader and the USB dongle. I no longer can transfer because suddenly too much power is required!!!
If it worked originally, it should keep working in subsequent software updates or it seems like a breach of contract to pull the capability away.
    Please restore how this works.
    Thank you

    Not worth it

    • Written by from McHenry

I was hoping to be able to use this for a jump drive (Memory stick, Thumb drive whatevever you like to call it) so that I could put movies on it and take them with me as I travel a lot for work and don't want to have to take my computer with me as well. Jumb drives don't work, and if the memory card isn't formated for a camera (used in a camera) it won't read the card. This is the first Apple product I am truly dissapointed with. I guess I'll have to make sure I have the movies I want with me, iCloud only has 5gb of free storage and I don't feel like paying yearly for more, unless I have no other option...
