    Useful for midi

    • Written by from Phoenicia

With a USB hub I can hook up a keyboard and a controller. Cheaply made for the price and the connection is not secure, as others have noted. Very useful to me, and fun!

    Works Great!!

    • Written by from Oakville

Almost didn't buy this product based on some of the reviews and complaints, but was traveling abroad and needed a solution to backup all my photos. Apple has never let me down and this time was no different. This product works great for both my iPad 3 and my iPhone 4; worked the first time out and I couldn't be happier. Have only used the USB connection thus far (with my Canon 50D and iPhone 4) and works like a charm. Completely happy with this product and would recommend.

    Thanks Apple!

    Why not include the iPhone

    • Written by from Pioneer

This little device is great to travel with. We use it all the time with our iPads. I really don't understand why Apple doesn't make it iPhone compatible. I have wished many times that I could import directly to my iPhone when I don't have my iPad.

Works well and does what I need it to

    • Written by from Palm Coast

I almost didn't purchase this product because of all the reviews. Then I thought, Apples doesn't tend to make stuff that doesn't work. For $30 I'll give it a try. To be clear, I don't use the SD Card adapter as my cameras are all CFs, so this review only applies to the camera connection.

When I first connected my camera, I had to change the communication mode to PTP as I was getting "incompatible device" errors. Once I did that, BAM! It was great! Snap a shot - there it was. No problems at all. I was able to quickly import photos, edit them using any of the apps I have for that purpose and upload them wherever I wanted.

The ONLY downside I found was the downsizing (which isn't a problem with the iPad, but with editing apps). If you have a camera that takes good sized photos, don't make the mistake of deleting your originals after importing. Once you edit them on your iPad they'll be downsized quite a bit so keep the originals on your card until you backup to your computer, just to be safe. :-) Love it!

    Transfers photos off my camera

    • Written by from Queen City Park

This kit works like a charm to transfer pictures off my camera using the SD card, however if the folder's name was changed or I tried to transfer a folder from my computer, I couldn't get the device to recognize the files. Now I know to transfer pictures before naming the folders so that shouldn't be an issue. I haven't tried the USB port yet. I hope a future software update will let me transfer any file from SD card to IPad but it will do for now.

Needs iOS5.1 to work for MP4

    • Written by from Hayward

Works great. Only thing is that I had to update my iPad to iOS 5.1 for it to read the MP4 files on my GoPro2.

Works with Contour video Camera and pictures from Nikon D5100

    • Written by from Daly city

I purchased the camera kit so that I can download pictures from my Countour video camera and images from my Nikon D5100. Both work like a charm. I would give it 5 stars but it's a bit slow when transferring pictures.

Does what it's supposed to do.

    • Written by from San diego

    Read the title.

I am a rescue swimmer in the navy and have the opportunity to shoot some of the most amazing places in the world. I have a DSLR and hate to look at the pictures on the camera. When I'm done taking pictures I transfer them to the iPad while in the aircraft so I can review my work.

I take both large Canon .Raw and JPEG formats usually 18Mb and 4Mb and it uploads them somewhat slow. But still does the job. I can't complain one bit.

Keep in mind I only use the SD card reader and not the USB so it may be slower transfer rate... not sure.

Also I don't like the transfer rate from the iPad to the computer... Takes longer than uploading the SD card on the iPad.

    I hope this helps.

Works well, but USB connector could be more flexible in use.

    • Written by from Calgary

Pro - SD connector works with all my SD cards, jpeg and RAW. USB connector same. Love the fact that I can upload RAW from my CF cards (Nikon D200 connected directly via USB/mass storage or PTP) to my iPad. Not only lets me view larger picture, but the iPad becomes my travel backup for my cards...nice to have 64GB when mobile.
Con - USB connector finicky. Could seat more firmly esp when USB cable attached. Most card readers are not powered and won't work.

Worked Like A Charm - IPAD

    • Written by from Sparta

Used both on the IPAD OS version4.2 without a glitch. Got to agree with a reviewer to open two-way communication.
If it doesn't work for you try and power down IPAD/2 by holding down the power for 5 seconds or so (not the side button but front button). Then after powered down, hit the power button again until the Apple logo appears. This clears most problems with IPADS. I suggest the IPAD2 user with problems with this product tries this first. This is a trick I learned after reading several articles and works like a charm. Not sure why it is not published widely. You should be doing this every so often anyways for proper shutdown of your IPAD.

Does well for photos, video it depends on your file format.

    • Written by from Gurnee

For JPEG & RAW great; for video it depends on your video format.
I purchased this for a secondary backup while traveling and for picture/images, this work quite well. I am using a Canon 50D and the only hurdle was that this camera uses Compact Flash instead of SD/SDHC cards. At first I was disappointed, but in the end I just need to carry the USB camera cable which is actually smaller than a Compact Flash reader and the same USB cable…so at the end of the day this is fine.
iPad loaded the pictures and transferred the images fine. When I went to iPhoto (Mac) it did not see the iPad (first gen). I attached the iPad USB cable to my Mac and then it saw the iPad and was able to easily and quickly download the pictures from the iPad to iPhoto.
I also have a Canon HF200 that uses SDHC cards and although the pictures from this camcorder come through fine, the video from this camcorder (Format: AVCHD) is NOT supported by this device or the iPad.

    Great Product But PLEASE UPDATE!!!!

    • Written by from Yorba Linda

Great product for the price. Had no issues connecting my Nikon D60 with the SD card reader adapter to my iPad2. Really helpful in eliminating the computer from the equation and making the iPad self-sufficient.

APPLE: Please further eliminate the computer from the equation by adding an update that will allow the iPad to recognize an external hard drive/flash drive via the USB Adapter.

    That's it,

    Considered returning it, BUT....

    • Written by from La Mirada

I bought the kit today and I LOVE iT - well, after tinkering with it and reading reviews. Hooked up nikon coolpix using USB cable at first, it didn't work. "too much power." moved on to sd card slot, worked like a charm! Wondering if apple would refund me $14.50 for the non-working USB connector, I perused reviews and was disappointed until one reviewer mentioned turning off his camera's "auto transfer something-something." Aha! "too much power! " so I went to my camera settings, turned off "auto charge through computer" and voilà! The kit is a keeper.

Works as advertised ... with some help from reviews.

    • Written by from Charlotte

This product works as advertised for the iPad2, but the instructions are not very helpful (I deducted one star for that failing). I learned more from the product reviews. The USB camera connector worked fine, but the one for the SD card did not. The iPad would not recognize an SDHC card with photo's on it; I tried several ways to connect but was not successful. Then, I read the review, "Had a problem but maybe solved it", posted by LF from Hamilton on Dec 14, 2011. His comment about the DCIM folder solved my problem (thanks, LF). I observed there was a DCIM folder on the SDHC card (I do not know how it was created), saved the photo's from my PC in that folder and connected to the iPad. The photo's showed up immediately and the rest went smoothly.

    It works

    • Written by from Seattle

I have just purchased a brand new ipad 2 along with the camera kit and the bottom line is, it works. I was shocked at reading the comments about this product not working and my thoughts went back to the early 90s when i bought my first Windows pc, how could this be, its 2012 and this is Apple the company that is suppose to blow the alternatives away. so here i am 2 days with my new ipad and i imported my pictures from my sd card with no hassles at all. I have a Nikon camera with a Transcend 8gb card, I have successfully used this to transfer pictures from my pc to my ipad. Maybe its the new operating system or the format from the camera, I am happy
