    reduced functionality under iOS 4.2

    This was a handy little device, that is prior to iOS 4.2 Previously I transferred pictures from memory cards to iPad via usb card reader. It worked flawlessly for ease of transfer. Now it suddenly cannot supply sufficient power via usb. Initially I thought Apple engineers had nailed a very usefull/flexible accessory. Apparently they accidently made it too good and they had to reduce its capabilities. I would like to hear the rationale for this change. Still usefull but now I carry too many camera connector cords.

    USB low energy limits use

    The USB's new low energy restriction on the iPad 2 makes it rather useless. Functionality is poor. Unable to get it to work even on my camera with out the error message that the device uses too much energy. Apple needs to return to the 100 ma output, not the 20ma restriction. I rather have a shorter battery life, than reduced functions

    Instructions not clear

    Bought adapter and tried to download jpegs from laptop using SD card. Nothing happened. Read that files must be in 8 character format and in DCIM folder. Modified data on SD card and now adapter works great. Been nice if product instructions would have mentioned this minor requirement.

    Imputing pictures to ipad2 with connection kit

    Using my connection kit I was able to download from an SD card to my ipad2 BUT only pictures straight off my camera. Pictures that I had edited with photoshop and put on my SD card that were jpeg's, png, or gif's (tried all three in desperation) did NOT even show on the screen so I could download these better versions of my pictures ! BIG bummer.

    Powered usb devices crippled !!!!

    The usb half of this kit has been seriously handicapped in ios 4.2. Beware. However, the sd card works well after popping out of my nikon d90. Raw, .mov and jpegs all fine.

    I wanted to get my photos of my blackberry, couldnt do it. Not cool, especially since it was previously possible.

    Bad because when I first used the connection kit I lost all my holiday photos & videos reason being (I believe) I plugged in the SD card into the kit then plugged the kit into the iPad. Without any notification it wiped out everything on the SD card bring up a window saying: memory contains no images..... Same thing when using the USB reader with a USB cable!
    There should be some sort of safety device or notification that this would happen! There is not!
    Good because now I know this, it works fine BUT I lost all my bloody holiday photos!!!
    Thanks Apple. Will you pay for another holiday in Croatia to replace all my lost photos?

    don't want to import, just view on SD card!

    This work fine for importing, but I don't want to import just view from SD card. All these pics are going to eat up my memory on the iPad. I want to pop the card in, look at the pics FULL screen to preview. Then I can save them in a bigger drive elsewhere later. I can do this on my lame-o pc, why not this apple device?

    The SD reader doesn't work if you have an SD card with pictures organized in folders or with large flenames,
    Really only works if you put your pictures on a folder called DCIM and your filenames are 8.3 named (like DOS), Very bad experience.,Also the manuals and specifications doesn't say helpfuill information.

    With Usb kit i can't read memroy disk. ouch!!! and again, manualas and specifications don't help to get solutions they only have comercial and very limited information..

    Im disapointed for this limitations and for documentation.

    I bought the iPad camera connection when it 1st released. I've quick edited many family and friend photographs using photo editing apps purchased in the app store. The ability to do a quick sample edit before editing in photoshop on my Mac was a great tool to save myself time. The high res of the iPad WAS an invaluable tool in bettering my portrait photography.
    It's been a while since I've had the need to do an moble edit, only to return to find my iPad no longer recognizes either the direct SD adapter nor the IPAD TO CAMERA connection!!!!!!
    I am very disappointed!!! Apple please fix this!!

    Not as simple to use as you might think, but seeing how there is no real instruction, you naturally assume it will work. You cannot transfer pics from your PC (or anywhere) onto the SD then into the iPad...Oddly enough, it will only recognize pics directly stored onto an SD from your camera. Take the SD card from the camera, stick it right into the adapter, tada, it works. No other way...weird and beyond me. Also you cannot use the USB for a flash/thumb drive...it has to be powered, independently....so no using a thumb/flash drive for pic of vid transfers...

    It's really operating system problem, not hardware...

    Well I thought I can put my jpg's on my SD card and then I can import them to my ipad using the adaptor nice and easy. What's wrong with that thought?
    Most weird: If I use an SD card that I have from one of my cameras then it seemed to read the files in ok. If I take the same SD and then I put some other jpgs then the ipad does not see those jpg. Sometimes it will import 3 out 30 some other times it will do nothing. I can read and write the very same card with the computer.. I even tried to leave the same directory structure the camera creates..
    I think now apple started looking like windows. You do the same thing and you get different results every time.

    Generally functional but with several serious drawbacks
    1) It does not transfer all data from the memory card.. Videos of a certain length did not transfer as well as some photos. You need to do a 1 by 1 review.
    2) Most distressingly, if you choose the delete all option it will not only delete the photos that appear on the iPad but also everything on the memory card, including the videos and photos it did not import. Therefore, detach the camera or memory card from the iPad before selecting this option.

    This item works fine with my point and shoot camera, but doesn't like professional cameras. If I use my Canon 50D it will work through the USB adapter but when I connect my 5D it won't allow me to do anything. Also worth noting is it doesn't work with a card reader so if you are at a wedding or an event and wanted to share some photos you need to connect the camera directly to the iPad using the USB adapter rendering your camera useless for the duration of the import. This is assuming it will even work with your camera. I had high hopes for this device but it looks like I will need to purchase a laptop again for travel. It's a shame because I sold my MacBook to buy this iPad with this in mind specifically.

    Limited ability to import

    The CCK requires photos and videos that are to be imported to be in a folder called DCIM. Unfortunately, not all cameras have or use a DCIM folder. My situation is my photos are stored in the DCIM folder and import just fine via the SD card connector. My HD videos however are not stored in the DCIM folder and won't import. Not sure why Apple just doesn't have the iPad search the mounted device for any and all photos and videos and import them all. Seems to me to be a software fix.

    As for the USB connector, it tells me my camera is not supported and after dismissing the message twice, it then imports the photos with no problem. Again no video.

    I have the 3rd gen iPad with iOS 6, and this camera kit has only worked one time. Every time I plug in the USB adapter, with my camera connected, it always says "accessory not supported on iPad". The SD card adapter does not work either. Very disappointed in this product. Hope they can fix it.

    Where is the support for compact flash?

    While I can connect my camera with a USB cable to transfer photos this is not a desirable solution. It requires I carry another cable with me, the camera cannot be used while the transfer is performed, and it drains the camera battery while the photos are transferred. Come on Apple, wake up and realize that a large number of your customers use large and expensive cameras that use compact flash cards. Is your product manager asleep or something?

    USB adapter doesn't work with IOS 5.
    "This accesory is not supported by iPad".

    I have an original ipad, and I bought the camera connecton kit. It worked perfectly for a few months, but since I upgraded to ios 5.1 it now does nothing. It is not recognised at all - not even an error message. I tried plugging it into my iphone, in the hope that it might work there. It did not, but at least I got a message stating - this iphone does not support this device.

    I'm a huge Apple fan, with that said, why don't iPad users have the ability to plug a usb flash storage (thumb drive) into our iPads and transfer files? The only reason I can see is that Apple doesn't want to give up the ability to sell 3 different iPads based on storage size. Come on Apple, please get back to making devices that made your customers completely happy, not just a little happy. For this reason, I will only give 2 stars to this adapter set.
