I bought the iPad camera connection when it 1st released. I've quick edited many family and friend photographs using photo editing apps purchased in the app store. The ability to do a quick sample edit before editing in photoshop on my Mac was a great tool to save myself time. The high res of the iPad WAS an invaluable tool in bettering my portrait photography.
It's been a while since I've had the need to do an moble edit, only to return to find my iPad no longer recognizes either the direct SD adapter nor the IPAD TO CAMERA connection!!!!!!
I am very disappointed!!! Apple please fix this!!

    Works just about as expected

    • Written by from VICTORIA

Both connectors work with most cameras and external devices, however IT would be nice to allow thumb drives to connect so that when we don't have a computer or we are in an area of the world without mobile data /3G/4G, we can access our info. Currently this is not possible with the limitations in iOS4x. Also if you happen to be using DACs there have also been issues using async usb output from the device due to current restrictions.

USB doesn't work and sd reader only reads cards written by an sd camera. Apple should give refunds for all sold

The most upredictable device I have seen.

    • Written by from Milpitas

Well I thought I can put my jpg's on my SD card and then I can import them to my ipad using the adaptor nice and easy. What's wrong with that thought?
Most weird: If I use an SD card that I have from one of my cameras then it seemed to read the files in ok. If I take the same SD and then I put some other jpgs then the ipad does not see those jpg. Sometimes it will import 3 out 30 some other times it will do nothing. I can read and write the very same card with the computer.. I even tried to leave the same directory structure the camera creates..
I think now apple started looking like windows. You do the same thing and you get different results every time.

    Ipad2 & sony cyber shot

    • Written by from Sacramento

The connector kit was a great gadget for initially uploading 800+ photos from a sony cyber shot......until i wanted to repeat the process a few weeks later. I get an error message "device uses too much power" every time. I have plugged and unplugged the usb, camera and connector kit in every order possible multiple times to no avail. The ipad has been reset and the camera battery is fully charged and still nothing. What a waste.

    No exporting!!!!

    • Written by from Mumbai

The device works well for importing but unfortunately there is no way of exporting. What's the use of something which does half the job.

    Pretty frustrating.

    Love it

    • Written by from o fallon

I didn't buy this product with the intent of transferring photos. I bought it for the usb connection. I was reading in forums that with the usb connection on the camera connectivity kit you can use usb headphones with it. I was a little worried that my logitech g35 gaming head phones would use to much power on the but i still had to try. got it all hooked up and went to watch a movie through the head phones on my IPad 2 and it work like a charm. I did not have to go out and buy another pair of expense head phones just for my IPad. Got to love technology.

    Limited to imports of photos

    • Written by from Sollentuna

Found this device pretty useless as it will only enables import of photos to the iPad. Have not found a way to copy photos from iPad to SD-card. Is not even capable to handle other media than photos.

Ok, the description from Apple does not say it should support anything else but importing photos to iPad. Being used to PC's I just took that for granted.

It's a bit misleading as to function....

    • Written by from Bristow

Not as simple to use as you might think, but seeing how there is no real instruction, you naturally assume it will work. You cannot transfer pics from your PC (or anywhere) onto the SD then into the iPad...Oddly enough, it will only recognize pics directly stored onto an SD from your camera. Take the SD card from the camera, stick it right into the adapter, tada, it works. No other way...weird and beyond me. Also you cannot use the USB for a flash/thumb drive...it has to be powered, independently....so no using a thumb/flash drive for pic of vid transfers...

It's really operating system problem, not hardware...

    Big disappointment

    • Written by from Birmingham

NOTHING I plug into the USB plug works, telling me that there's not enough power (even when the iPad is fully charged AND the camera is turned on supplying it's own power). With the SD card reader, using a micro SD card and an adapter (which the little manual that comes with the camera kit SAYS will work), of the two microSD cards I have, one isn't recognized at all, and the other, when it is recognized, is reported as empty, though I can see the images on the camera. If I use my computer to copy all the images over to an MMCplus card, I CAN use the SD card reader, BUT it doesn't pull in any videos, and only some of the pictures. Considering the entire reason for using the iPad and camera connection kit is to be able to access the images away from my computer, this is just one of the many reasons I feel the iPad is a failure as a useful device. $600 down the tubes.

    Audio With Camera Connector

    • Written by from Parma

I use the Camera Connector to plug in Blue Microphone's USB "Yeti" mic. Makes it a breeze to record CD quality sound on the iPad. I'm using the "FiRe" audio recording app. Results are superb from close up recording to full concert band.

    One way only!

    • Written by from Buford

Beware, this kit allows one way transfers only from the SD card to the iPad. For this it works just fine. However, I want to select certain photos from my iPad and transfer to the SD card that I use in my digital picture frame at work, but it WILL NOT DO IT! C'mon Apple, open up two way communication here!

    Not Worth it. . .

Not recommend, it only works with certain Digital Camera types, as per a Genius. So inquire about it, before running out to get the connection kit. Disappointed!

the iPad becomes a Polaroid proof print

    • Written by from Brooklyn

For this photographer, Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit and a USB cable allow temporary downloading and proofing of raw files from full-frame Nikon cameras. That's sensational.
For older photographers, the Kit turns the iPad into a hybrid sheet Polaroid at nearly 6 inches by 8 inches. For restoring a bit of Edwin Land's work, thank you Alan Kay and Steve Jobs.

    Useful, but...

    • Written by from Anchorage

This works as advertised, but ONLY as advtised. I was hoping that the USB connector would allow me to connect things other than a digital camera or iPhone. Specifically, I have some pictures on Compact Flash cards that I would like to import. But when I tried to plug in a multi-card reader into the USB connecteor, I got an error message saying the power requirements on the usb port were exceeded. Also, i have an 8gb SD card that normally is used in my old Dell Axim pda (remember those?) that I used in a pinch while travelling overseas to copy some friends pictures off her laptop. They were in subfolders under the "my pictures" folder at the root of the SD card. When i plugged the SD card into the adapter the only photos on the card that showed up in the selector screen on the ipad were pictures in the 'DCIM' folder on the SD card. So i copied the folders from 'my pictures' to 'DCIM' and still no go. It seems pictures in subfolders cant be read unless the folders are created by an actual digital camera. So, I'm slightly bummed, but there are always workarounds.....
