    Instructions not clear

Bought adapter and tried to download jpegs from laptop using SD card. Nothing happened. Read that files must be in 8 character format and in DCIM folder. Modified data on SD card and now adapter works great. Been nice if product instructions would have mentioned this minor requirement.

Ok to import. But when I send them in a mail I can't see them in the mail body. The photos taken with the iPad camera showed correctly.

Imputing pictures to ipad2 with connection kit

Using my connection kit I was able to download from an SD card to my ipad2 BUT only pictures straight off my camera. Pictures that I had edited with photoshop and put on my SD card that were jpeg's, png, or gif's (tried all three in desperation) did NOT even show on the screen so I could download these better versions of my pictures ! BIG bummer.

It's a bit misleading as to function....

55 of 66 people found this useful

Not as simple to use as you might think, but seeing how there is no real instruction, you naturally assume it will work. You cannot transfer pics from your PC (or anywhere) onto the SD then into the iPad...Oddly enough, it will only recognize pics directly stored onto an SD from your camera. Take the SD card from the camera, stick it right into the adapter, tada, it works. No other way...weird and beyond me. Also you cannot use the USB for a flash/thumb drive...it has to be powered, independently....so no using a thumb/flash drive for pic of vid transfers...

It's really operating system problem, not hardware...

The usb half of this kit has been seriously handicapped in ios 4.2. Beware. However, the sd card works well after popping out of my nikon d90. Raw, .mov and jpegs all fine.

I wanted to get my photos of my blackberry, couldnt do it. Not cool, especially since it was previously possible.

    reduced functionality under iOS 4.2

This was a handy little device, that is prior to iOS 4.2 Previously I transferred pictures from memory cards to iPad via usb card reader. It worked flawlessly for ease of transfer. Now it suddenly cannot supply sufficient power via usb. Initially I thought Apple engineers had nailed a very usefull/flexible accessory. Apparently they accidently made it too good and they had to reduce its capabilities. I would like to hear the rationale for this change. Still usefull but now I carry too many camera connector cords.

Really love the iPad BUT why why why didn't it come with USB/SD connectivity built in!!

This is right up their with not backing up applications like entries in iCal in your time machine!?! Plus many more.

    Otherwise happy.

    Limited ability to import

    • Written by from Athens

The CCK requires photos and videos that are to be imported to be in a folder called DCIM. Unfortunately, not all cameras have or use a DCIM folder. My situation is my photos are stored in the DCIM folder and import just fine via the SD card connector. My HD videos however are not stored in the DCIM folder and won't import. Not sure why Apple just doesn't have the iPad search the mounted device for any and all photos and videos and import them all. Seems to me to be a software fix.

As for the USB connector, it tells me my camera is not supported and after dismissing the message twice, it then imports the photos with no problem. Again no video.

Works with my SD cards, both Canon, but would not work on my friend's XD cards. Kind of useless if it won't work with other cards. Rather disappointing at the Grand Canyon.

    Good
    -----
It supports many different storage devices.
It comes with two adapters, SD and USB.
It works on both iphone and ipad, though a iphone gives a annoying warning.
It imports pictures and some videos from older cameras/camcorders.

    Bad
    -----
I take most of my pictures and videos with a modern camcorder.
Modern HD camcorders ALL use AVCHD (MTS, M2TS) file format.
This kit provides no way of viewing MTS files. I can view MTS files from my tiny HD camcorder, but I cannt view them on a ipad. Me thinks the Apple A4 chip is all hype.

I have to lug a Windows laptop if I want to view videos on a screen larger then the one built onto camcorders (Quicktime does NOT support AVCHD, Windows 7 natively supports AVCHD).

No way of off loading files to the Internet.

Might be the photo app, but after trying to upload a few pix, it crashes the app and sends me back to the main screen. So then when I need to try again, it makes a new album with the next 2 or 3 it uploads. Then crashes again... :-(

problem with USB and Nikon S8000

If I try to connect a Nikon Coolpic S8000 to the iPad via the Camera Connection USB device the iPad rejects the connection because the device draws too much power. It seem the iPad can not work with any device that charges the battery when transferring photos

I did not try my Nikon D300 because the battery is much larger.

Not wishing to break anything ---- So What of I connect a USB memory reader to the ipad via the USB Camera Connection?

Can't view without importing? Give me a break

    • Written by from Springfield

The whole reason I got this thing was to quickly view pics from my camera's SD card. Not to have to sit and wait while it imports a few hundred, or for me to have to pick and choose (one at a time) which ones to import just to see if they are blurry or not.

Come on Apple, who thought mandatory importing was a good idea?

I was able to finally get two of these kits for our ipads. When I connect the sd card reader and try importing pictures it crashes on me everytime after about 10 images. The only way to select more than 10 is to keep your finger on the screen and keep moving it around while its importing. Also disappointed because when I found out they had this accessory I was also told I'd be able to import video from it. Nope.

    Constrains iPhone photos to 600x600

I bought this product to transfer photos from my iPhone to my iPad so that I can edit them on the bigger screen of the iPad. Unfortunately, the transferred iPhone photos are constrained to 600x600 for some reason. I am not sure why this product is doing this. As such, I'm greatly disappointed.
