I have a Sony Nex 5 and Canon 5D mark ii and the camera connection kit doesn't work at all for me. Nothing happens when I insert the SD card, and nothing happens when I directly connect the camera. Running IOS 4.3.3 on an iPad1. Super disappointed.

I received the kit yesterday and tried it out last night. My digital camera is a Sony Cybershot which has a memory stick with adapter. It doesn't fit in the SD slot but I was able to transfer photos with the memory stick left in the camera using the USB camera plug and the other adapter that comes with this kit. I also transferred pics from my iPhone to my new iPad with ease.

It's very easy to use and I like that it lets you select all or selected pics to transfer. It also asks you if you'd like to remove them from the device after the transfer.

After I transferred from my Cybershot camera to the iPad I just opened my PS app and edited the pics & hit save.

Great product for a great price!

I just received the adapter today.
    I have an older Sony Cyber-shot 7MP camera (DSC-W7).

    1. plugged the USB adapter into the iPad
    2. plug the USB cable between the iPad and the camera
    3. Turned on the camera
    4. Turned on the iPad
    5. Voila!
The Photos app automatically opened on the iPad and immediately showed the "Camera" section.

    Importing was easy!

    Note:
I used an iPad app (Photo-sort) to transfer the photos from the iPad to a PC via WiFi.
In the past, I usually connected the camera directly to the PC, but it would be nifty if there was a way to import pictures from the iPad *TO* the PC ... iTunes seems to only work in the other direction.

    Doesn't Work

I plug in the USB plug (either a camera or another adapter with a USB plug that can read multiple SD, micro cards, etc..) into the adapter and it states "device uses too much power". IT'S QUITE FRANKLY USELESS. I have since purchase an after maket adapter that can reader 5 different sized cards and has a USB plug for 1/5th cost and it works just fine. So if anyone is interested, I have a Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit for very cheap!

The USB Part does not work on mine, my sisters nor my best friends, we all have one. Says not enough power??? The card reader does work. Most of the time.

After reading some of the reviews I was a little leary of placing my order, but the camera conncection kit is exactly what I was looking for to round out my iPad use. Decided to go for it and if it didn't work, send it back. Just got the camera connection kit and tried the camera memory card, then the camera cable. Both worked like magic. I know I'll get a lot of use from this little kit. Thank you Apple!!

    iPad adaptors

I use the SD card adaptor o transfer all of my photos from my Nikon. It always transfers without any problems. One note. You should not use you camera to directly download your photos through the USB adaptor. There is always a possibility that your camera or card could be damaged. Always remove the card and plug it into the SD adaptor.

    Disadvantages to this kit

Whilst the camera kit is ideal for downloading from sd cards it has no facility for compact flash other than through the camera. So that's ok just plug the camera in via the USB connector.

Big problem cannot transfer files with USB memory stick. Why not? Error shows not enough power. iPad fully charged, tried 2gb and 8gb USBs -no luck.

Does not work with Cannon Powershot

This only worked the first time I connected the iPad 2 to camera usng the USB connector. After the first time, the iPad 2 does not detect the camera. I tried everything - charging up iPad, new batteries on camera, removing and replacing SD card on camera but nothing worked. I finally removed the SD card from the camera and used the other connector with the SD card slot and it worked. My first Apple product and am disappointed that it cannot perform a simple operation.

The camera connection kit used to work with my Nikon via the USB connection. BUT since various software updates to the iPad, I now get a message stating: The connected storage media may be damaged, every time I try to connect the camera to the iPad camera connection kit via USB. Extremely disappointed with this Apple product. I have a device that is now useless. What a wait of money.

Good but lacking a huge feature

When plugged into the iPad you can only browse little thumbnails. I often take 4 or 5 pictures to get the right angle. It would be nice to be able to see large versions of the pictures or to be able to quickly show picturess that are on the sd card with out having to import them all.

I couldn't quite figure out how to work this the first try. I hooked up the camera and all the photos appeared on my iPad. But, when I disconnected, the photos were gone. Same thing happened with the card reader.

Then, I realized that, up in the right hand corner of the iPad screen is a button for 'import'. Voila! There were all my photos, in my iPhoto album in a stack called 'last import'.

Then, I took some of them to the Photo Pal app and, again, just as promised, excellent results.

    Good product, bad instructions

Don't return it yet !!! It's not plug and play, but by googling I learned the following for using the SD card:

    1. The images on the SD card MUST be inside a folder named DCIM (just like a camera)
    2. The file name CANNOT exceed 8 characters, plus the suffix. Example: 12345678.jpg

Don't ask me why these are the rules..... I was so frustrated....I made sure these rules applied and then it worked perfectly. Works for loading .mp4 files too.

    Waste of money

I received the kit in the mail. Hooked the USB card reader to my iPad. 3rd generation and received error message this device draws too much power. Tried several different brands of USB keys and still received same error message drawing too much power. This was a total waste of money! If you have to use the adapter with a powered USB hub then that is fine but apple should disclose that the iPad will not power a USB key and you must use a powered USB hub to make the kit work. I have several thousands pictures I wanted to transfer from a USB and now it seems I just wasted my money. Very disappointed. I spefically ordered this kit from apple to avoid cheap knock offs and still received a product that is not useable. This product should be removed from sale on the apple store.

Hoped to be able to import jpegs via sd card reader. All the literature says that iPad 2 "automatically opens photo app" and yet it doesn' t. In fact, nothing happens. I can't find the sd card nor the photos on it anywhere.

I tried using these out of the box, on my first gen ipad. Never once did my ipad open the photo app. It would not recognize my 2 Fuji cameras, or Flip video camera, Would not accept images off of a USB flash drive, saying the device "requires too much power", even on a 100% charge. I tried 2 separate SD cards. One got the response "may have corrupted files", and another that was perfectly functional showed no response at all. Unhappy with purchase.

I bought the connectioin kit and tried it with an SD card. It's fails with the message that the device is incompatible. With the SD in the camera then: it fails, it uses too much power. A usb thumb drive? It fails. a usb harddrive with it's own power? it fails, because the device uses too much power.
Don't buy it, it is useless.
