Today after observing blinking amber, I took an old tooth brush and scrubbed the electrodes. The device worked well after that.

    Worth The Money

I bought the Apple Battery Charger a few months ago and have been very pleased with the performance.

I use the batteries in my Magic Pad and Magic Mouse and the charge lasts a good 3 -4 weeks before needing a charge. I use my Magic Mouse with my MacBook Pro on a daily basis and I am truly surprised at the length of time between charges.

The only issue I have is that the Apple does not see the batteries separately. Reading the Questions & Answers for the product, any good quality NiMH rechargeable batteries will work. Instead of wasting money with trial and error, I purchased a second Battery Charger. Glad I did as I now have at least 8 batteries always ready to use.

When it comes to needing batteries for your Apple wireless devices, or even any device that requires some AA batteries, the Apple rechargeable batteries are your friend. Their long lasting battery life, and quick recharge abilities truly help you when you need batteries. They also help you to keep from having to purchase AA batteries. This is definitely a great buy for Apple users.

    cool little charger

I go way back with rechargeable batteries and have had mixed results with them. One thing i have learned is that they "remember everything" and you only get one chance to abuse them. With that i mean don't discharge them fully or they may reverse polarity, don't short circuit put them in some device which draws more current than they are designed for and under no circumstances leave them on charge forever because while the manufacturers intend this practice to "maintain" charge, what it in the ends up doing is shortening the lifespan. A rechargeable NMH or Li will show aslight "peak" in voltage just prior to (under a given discharge rate) it's beginning to fall off, for the most part this occurs around 30% or .8VDC (assuming a 1.25V cell) if you plot the terminal voltage verses remaining charge current. What this means is that if you recharge these little things whenever convenient, somewhere between 25 and 35% ond only until the indicator has chaged from amber to green (don't wait for it to turn off) these should last for many, many, many cycles. I hope this helps.

    Compact Charger

This charger works with two 1.2V AA batteries. It is elegant and compact, the plug slides off to connect to a travel adapter or cord from a laptop charger. Easy to carry in a laptop bag. It is all color coordinated with your other Apple products. The amber light flashes if there is an error; the batteries have to be seated perfectly in the charger or the light will flash. This is the only drawback. It is far superior to other AA chargers I have purchased in the past.

You do not have to use the batteries in only Apple products. They are work perfectly fine in my non-Apple branded computer mice and they keep a charge for quite a while. Compared to other AA batter charger packaged deals, this one is actually quite competitive in price. It serves its function well, so I recommend this product.

Not a full charge but good enough

I understand that people have been complaining about not getting a full charge out of these batteries. Understandable. When I charged them I got about 80% of a full charge. Also they seem to discharge fairly quickly (Lost 5% of a charge in half a day). We'll see how they last over time, but they are good enough for now, considering I can recharge them and don't have to throw them away.

    Great battery charger

The Apple battery charger is magnificent for a number of reasons :
    1. It's small and very easily portable
    2. The Batteries it comes with have a 10 year lifespan -double the industry standard!
3.It comes with 6 batteries, while most battery chargers will only come with 4 AA batteries.
    4. The packaging is minimal - great for the environment and make the box smaller.
    5. The battery compartment is magnetic- prevents batteries from slipping out if they're not completely in the charger.
    6. It can charge one battery if you only need to charge one battery- most battery chargers will only charge pairs of batteries together.

The only problem is that it only charges AA batteries. I wish Apple made an adapter so that the Apple Battery charger could be used to charge AAA batteries.

Bought the charger today, fitted in two of the batteries to charge, amber light kept flashing to say something is wrong..... great start!! tried again and again and eventually the light stayed amber.. same thing happened with the remaining four batteries amber light flash's to indicate a fault, anyway fitted two in my keyboard and two in the mouse the remaining two will be for the magic trackpad.

Keyboard shows 89% charge mouse shows 86% now just have to wait and see how long they last, at least I won't have to buy some more AA's for a while...

    Simple, compact, and fairly priced

The purchase price should include eight, rather than six, rechargeable batteries.

It is a compact charger and could use a carrying case which would cost a few mere dimes maximum.

    Hence, FOUR stars.

I absolutely love these batteries, sleek good looking good price point and a smart move to both go green and make another buck by apple. I have had the set since the week it came out and use the batteries for a multitude of tasks.
the only reason that I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because as of this point I can't find a way to buy more of apples batteries (note that I am saying more of their batteries, I understand you can buy generic but it would make good sense for apple to sell more of their own instead of expecting me to buy a whole other charger that I don't need or having me put a third party battery in their charger which they won't warranty down the line)

When I got my iMac I didn't realize how much the Magic Mouse would eat batteries. So I decided to buy the Rechargeable Batteries. The $30 price tag seemed steep at first. But I looked at other chargers from Energizer that come with two more batteries and a charging station for about the same price but just didn't look as good. Also knowing this is a Apple product I know it if it breaks or anything I will get great support. The design of the battery charger looks great fits in well with the rest of the small Apple stuff I own. My batteries came 85% charged and the charger had a hard time deciding on what to do with the batteries. When I plugged it in the first time it was Orange. Plugged it in a again and it was flashing orange. Plugged it in a 3rd time it was green. Puzzled, I left them plugged in all night and took them out and it was 86%. Very odd. But all in all its a great and very competitively priced Battery charger. But even if you don't own any wireless Apple products you should still get these for your T.V remotes and any other things and save a TON of money on batteries.

Just works but requires some care charging non-Apple batteries

    • Written by from Norfolk

I've found my new charger to work well but some technique is required. Particularly, both batteries must be the same type or the charger will get confused and won't charge them. Once past this hurdle, the charger works as advertised.

Some have complained that gadgets show less than full charge with NiH batteries. This is normal. Nickel hydride, lithium, and alkaline batteries have different characteristic voltages. Gadgets estimate capacity from voltage so each of the three will show different initial capacity. NIH will show lower than alkaline. This is normal. Nothing is wrong with charger or battery.

Solid product. My biggest complaint is that apple doesn't seem to be supporting the product very well. I couldn't find the manual for this unit in the "manual" section on Apple.com. Wasn't "sure" what the lights meant I've seen 1) Solid Amber 2) Flashing Amber and 3) Green. Over time I've figured it out. Flashing Amber is the one to watch for, it means you don't have the batteries seated properly, took me two days of "not charging" batteries to figure that out. Amber is charging and Green is good-to-go. Apple should have made it clear. Also Apple is getting a lot of bad press on this site because

!!!YOU WON"T GET MORE THAN 85%!!!

battery life with this product but thats the nature of rechargeable batteries. They should really HIGHLIGHT that so people aren't surprised. However I LOVE the charger, they work as promised and the price was excellent. Good job and very Earth Friendly Apple.

    Nice product but not revolutionary

    • Written by from Seattle

Apple's battery charger comes with 6 NiMH rechargeable cells, which are of the eneloop low-self discharge style. If you're going to get rechargeable cells, these types are the only ones worth getting anymore. The benefit is that they retain most of their charge even after a year just sitting around -- unlike rechargeables of old that would lose most of their charge in a week or two (often at the most inconvenient of times). Additionally, you can charge these cells 1000 times, which will likely last 10-15 years.

The charger itself charges up to 2 cells at a time, which is nice in that you have a very compact charger to travel with. The charger also has "smarts" to turn-off charging when a cell is fully charged. It takes about 5 hours to fully charge a set of batteries. So this is a nice product, but it is not revolutionary in that there are other small compact "smart" chargers out there that do the same thing for a bit less money, charge slightly faster and also support AAA batteries. Still, it is a nice package that Apple has put together.

    Great Little Charger

Nice & compact. Easy to travel with. First time I tried to charge the batteries, I got a blinking amber light indicating a problem with the batteries. Unplugged it from the wall and plugged it back in and worked fine after that. So far, no issues.

NOTE: Due to the nature of rechargeable batteries, they will NOT show 100% charge on your Mac. Alkaline batteries put out 1.5 volts, while rechargeable NiMH batteries are rated at about 1.25 volts. This means a fully charged battery will only display around 83%. Do not be concerned if Mac does not show 100% charge for your mouse or keyboard. This is normal.

Like anyone else, I thought you're only getting the wall charger & 2 AA rechargeable batteries. However, when you open this package, keep digging deeper. They also include another 2 sets of 2 AA batteries in addition to the first two (comes with 6 AA batteries altogether).

I like how compact it is and the quick recharge cycle (I consider 5 hours from empty quick when referring to quality batteries) and that it comes with six batteries. The only thing I don't like is that you can only charge 2 at a time. Since all of my wireless keyboards are the older style that use 4 batteries, when it dies, I will have to go through 2 charge cycles before I can use my keyboard.
