    Cord is ripping

I haven't even had my MacBook Pro for one year (just 7 months), and the cord on the charger is already ripping down the middle. I don't take my charger out with me - it stays home, plugged in, beside my bed. It makes absolutely no sense for the cord to rip this early on without constantly travelling or being rough with it. Very disappointed.

While my macbook was under apple care, i didn't mind if the adapter broke ( though it only happened twice). Now i am going onto my 4th year with my macbook, no longer under apple care and as a student apples price for their adapter is way too high. the product itself isn't even durable.

I've been through two chargers in a year. Very disappointed to know this isn't a fluke. All the chargers on Amazon have low ratings and terrible reviews as well. Do something Apple PLEASE!!

I've barely had the cord any time at all, treated it gently, and the tip just fell off after a couple days of it only half of the time giving me a charge. And now I have to buy this one, because I have no other options and it's ludicrously overpriced. If I were not required to use on of their laptops, I would refuse to touch Apple because of this. As is, I will never be buying anything from Apple that I'm not required to. You've lost a customer.

    Bad

I've had one for less than a year and within the last few months I've had problems with it not charging properly and other such defects that could (with work) be adjusted so I could charge my computer. But as I write this very review my battery life dwindles as I use the last 14% of battery I have to get this across: THE CHARGER WON'T WORK!!! At this point in time there is no adjusting, it simply won't charge. From these prior months I've learned the techniques in making the thing charge, but now nothing. So in order to charge my computer I need to spend an appalling amount of money for another charger that won't last me that long either. If apple sends me 3 new chargers, I'll take them no charge for the three years this one charger should have lasted. Bad product, poorly designed.

I am not going to echo all of the same messages I am reading about the same issue I am dealing with, other than mine is less than a year old, looks brand new, and just died. It is number four. I have been especially careful with this one because I was given some tips from a specialist at the apple store. Well, all that worked. Ridiculous!

    Terrible magsafe power adapter

I am on my third power adapeter for macbook pro now. They have a terrible quality on the isolation. The rubber dries out and cracks, go the whole chord comes apart, especially in the ends where it connects to the magnetic mac adapter, and in the other end where it connects to the power adapter. I am tired of spending $100 every year for poor design and quality so the wire is now covered in black electricians tape. We'll see how long it takes before another crack appears.

    Get yourself together Mr. Mac!

Just like the others, my cord would work intermittently at first, depending on how much I jiggle the cord, now it doesn't work at all and I haven't even had my laptop a year :(
I love my Macbook but I'm really disappointed that Apple is not addressing this HUGE issue! I'll think twice before recommending their products anymore

    Apple Do Something!

I bought this adapter to keep at home so I wouldn't have to take the one at work home every night. I bought it for $79, but thought the convenience would be worth it. However, when I took it out of the box and plugged it in, it did nothing. I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong, or the outlet was bad, but after trying everything, I went to some troubleshooting blogs. I found that this is a common problem with older Macs that came with the T style adapter.

The general recommendation I got from the blogs was to take the battery out, and put it back in. It worked! In the last two days of using it, sometimes I have to do it, sometimes I don't, but after paying $80 dollars for something what a pain! There is nothing wrong with my computer, and I'm not getting a new one anytime soon. Since Apple isn't making the old one any more, shouldn't they address this problem? Is anyone at Apple listening out there?!! I would give this product zero stars, but it wasn't an option.

Terrible!!!! Lasted 3 months. It better be under warrantee. I just bought my Macbook Pro at the towards the end of Oct. 2011, and I bought Apple care so I'm expecting this to be covered. I am new to Mac, and instantly fell in love with OS X. But the hardware is garbage. My screen hinge broke within the first month and a half, took a week to get it fixed, now this. Just another inconvenience.

Come on Apple, it is long past time you made these sturdier. Or, make it possible to replace the cord at a cheaper price. It just isn't reasonable to treat a power adapter as a consumable.

91 days and it no longer works...and I am in Afghanistan for a year

I purchased a MACBOOK Pro based on its durability, size and capability to ensure that I could Facetime with my family while deployed for a year. Too bad the peripherals, like the power cord, are not as durable as the MACBOOK itself. After 91 days the adapter stopped working so Apple won't cover it and now I can no longer Facetime with my family. This is a horrible adapter and I do not believe it is worth $80. Thanks for the support Apple. Hopefully there will be a better design in the future. If Apple chooses to investigate and fix this issue with weak power adapters, maybe they will replace the cords for those MACBOOK Pro customers affected. I am very dissatisfied with this adapter.

    Failure

This is the main focus of my apple frustrations (i have others) the product can't handle anything. In owning a macbook for one year i had one fail by itself, one fail when falling from not even a foot and one fail due to poor design. Apple work on this! The simple fact that in my warranty period i had to have this replaced 3 times (paying for it three times) is a simple disgrace for your brand

    I hate MacBook chargers.

I am on my 4th MacBook charger in the past 3 years. These things just do not last. I have used both the old and new designs and neither are reliable. The charger I am using now barely connects and I have to fidget around with it for it to work properly. Apple needs to come up with a new design.

I am about to order a new charger, just because I have to, not because I like them.

My cord went out just like everyone else in here and i have had this mac for a little over a year and I'm not happy that i have to spend more money on a cord that should work. To me that doesn't make any sense whats so ever. The mac book is great but replacing a charger that goes out is not good at all.

    New MagSafe Power adaptor

    • Written by from Silver Spring

25 of 26 people found this useful

We have gone through two $79 magsafe power adapters in the last 14 months. You have to admit that the design is very cool in appearance, however the devise doesn't last. Apple really needs to take a look at what people are saying in these on-lin reviews and redesign the charger. The problem is with the magnetic connector which connects into the MacBook. We have found that this is the weak link in the charger and the connector fails within about 7 months under normal use. Replacing these chargers is getting rather expensive and frustrating. APPLE ENGINEERS - WAKE UP AND PLEASE READ THESE REVIEWS!!!!

I bought my first Mac in August 2010 and I needed to buy a new charger four months later! It just stopped charging and purchased a new one for over$70. Ridiculous! As much as I pay for the sleek, efficient mac book I would expect just as good quality when it comes to accessories but I guess Apple needs to get its extra buck in somewhere. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED...

The replacement chargers from amazon works better.

I bought this last year and in one month of usage it stopped working. I don't normally leave my laptop plugged in all the time when i'm using it but this product was poorly made. I bought a replacement charger from amazon it lasted for about like 3 months which is still bad but atleast i don't have pay 80 dollars a month, with the replacement i pay about like 20-30 dollars. Times are hard apple! The only reason why I got a macbook was because i always had a problem with windows, please would you do something about this. Or i might just stop buying products from you guys

I must buy a zillion of these things a year! They are so terrible... I learned early how non-durable these things are and have thus treated them like fine china, but has that helped extend their lifespan? Not. At. All. I bought one about two months ago and it's just died on me. Another $70 dollars down the drain! I think I've spent enough money replacing chargers the past five or so years that I could have bought myself a brand new macbook pro!
