Ugh; I thought this one would last longer...

I thought the new angle of the wire would make this power adapter last longer than the previous model, but it's about a year later, and here I am, replacing it again. It's my annual $79 power brick tax, for the third time in three years.

I love the magsafe mechanism; it's kept the dog and the kid from knocking the laptop over a number of times, but it seems to me that they could build a joint to last a bit better for $79. If it were $20 or $30 I wouldn't mind replacing it every year, but when the price is encroaching on $100, for a power brick, I expect it to last for at least two or three years.

The cord's connection to the magnetic piece is very cheaply made and this is my 7th adapter in 2 years. I am going to outsource and search for something made of heavy stuff. I mostly use my computer at the desk and rarely take the cord with me when I go out and yet they don't last and always break at the magnetic piece or the fuse in the power block goes out.

I am disappointed in Apple. They should have fixed this by now. I just get a "that's the way it is" answer from Apple whenever I brooch the subject of workmanship!

    Broken Again

I've had to buy 3 of these now. The thin end of the cord that attaches to the magnet part keeps breaking apart. I take very good care of my computer and it's accessories, and I feel if someone as cautious as me has to buy a new one of these every year, then the part is too easily broken. =(

Everything that has been said is true, I just bought a new charger b/c my puppy chewed through my last chord and the first day it worked fine and second day came it wouldn't charge. I thought my animals might have gotten to this cord as well, until i read these reviews and took out my battery before charging it. After taking out the battery the cord works fine, however, i am highly disappointed in this product. Especially when i pay eighty dollars for a charger that malfunctions. Every time i need to charge my laptop i have to take the battery out in order for it to work not only does the battery life not last long, it is a hassle to take out your battery every time.

I bought my Macbook Pro 1 year & 3 months ago. The charger that came with it has frayed and melted close to the power adapter. I was able to position it in a certain way to charge, but it would cause my laptop to overheat and shocked me. I have also gone through 4 iphone chargers in the past 2 years. This has never happened to my old non-apple electronics; my previous Sony lasted 6 years without needed to replace the charger. This is ridiculous; Apple chargers an arm and a leg for their products, yet the materials they use are cheap and do not last... geez I wonder why. I am so turned off. I was the biggest Apple fan and have converted so many people. Good riddance.

I have a late 2008 MacBook 13" Unibody, and I have been through 3 of these 60W chargers. 2 have come apart at the same spot (near the plug that goes into the Macbook) and when they come apart the wiring is showing so I have had to cover with electrical tape to make it some what safe. On the 3rd one, same spot came apart AND towards the brick it came apart and started smoking. Poor Product , Poor Quality, and a Fire Hazard.

Mac power adapters are horrible for longevity. With my macbook I had about 5 power adapters all together. The first one lasted for about 3 years and after that the product really took a nose dive. I have a macbook air now and the power cord that came with it only lasted a little over a year. This product needs serious improvement.

I am a dedicated macbook user, but this charger is the bane of my existence. I have had to replace it three times, two of those in the last 6 months! I've read on mac forums that the design is flawed, and that the wire frays inside the casing, which explains why mine no longer charges my computer. The fact that it costs me eighty bucks to replace it everytime it breaks is mind blowing... Apple should be replacing these things for free with how shoddy they're made. WORST CHARGER EVERRRRR.

    adaptor failure

I too am unimpressed with the adaptor to my Mac Book Pro. I love the computer but my cord started to fray and break near the computer plug in. It has nice strong cord but the problem is that the reinforcement is not made where the wire usually bends which causes major problems. I bought mine just a year and a half ago.

My charger stopped working a while back and I didn't want to spend $80 on a new charger... Because that seems a little ridiculous. I cut my charger wire and taped it back together a few times to get it working again, that seemed to work for awhile until it starting sparking and making noises. So now, I guess i'm forced to buy one of these over priced chargers that are clunky & fragile, also I expect that it is not going to last long before it breaks. These chargers are the only option given to us, and we need them. So Apple continues to squeeze as much money as possible out of their loyal customers.

Apple really needs to read all these reviews and develop a new more durable charger with a slim design that is also a little lower in price.

Lasted a year before dying. The covering over the wires is made of very inferior material, it will fray heavily over time even if you take great care of it. The magsafe is awesome but the fundamentally poor quality of the cable itself is ridiculous - and at 80 dollars to get a replacement, I cannot speak positively at all about this.

I love my Macbook but the chargers are horrible. Spending $80 for this charger is absurd due to the fact that it breaks easily. Apple should change their charger design.

This charger is AWFUL! The cable connecting the casing is wayyyyyy too thin and it breaks easily. Mine just did after little over a year. This is absurd. A laptop charger should last for YEARS barring any abuse or misplacement. And replacing this essential piece of hardware costs EIGHTY DOLLARS!!!This is extremely frustrating and very baffling as my 2010 13 inch MacBook Pro itself works beautifully, no complaints at all. The fact that the computer itself works so well makes the charger issue even more frustrating How did the same people who designed that beauty create this piece of of electronic excrement? That said, for any Windows users considering switching to our side, don't let the many complaints about the chargers dissuade you. Macs function far better than Windows machines, so much so that it is worth putting up with this expensive hassle. Still, Apple fix this already please.

Can NOT fathom that I'm buying ANOTHER power cord???? We have 4 different MacBook's in our family and it seems like I buy one of these every 3 or 4 months. This time its my 13" MacBook Pro. They should sell an extended warranty on these chargers; NOT GOOD.

I take excellent care of my adapter and this is the 3rd time i've had to replace it. at $80 a pop i can see why apple doesn't do anything about the crapy design. They are making a fortune off of us. seriously f these people.... what an outrageously priced piece of s-. this is really the only problem i have with any of their products. get your stuff together apple.

I have had my Mac since 09 when I graduated, my adapater worked fine for nearly two years. Then it would start blinking in and out and I would wiggle it a litle til it worked again, that worked for like a week then it stopped working all together. So I paid up and got the newest one, it was a little different then the first one I had, and it worked a-OK for a total of about five months. And without any warning at ALL, it just quit working. There is no way I can afford spending $80 every few months because Apple decides to make ***** products. I love my Mac, but I am not going to waste my money more then once.

I've had my Mac Book Pro for just over a year now and I'm already replacing my 2nd power cord, making this new one the 3rd. The cord never even leaves my desk and yet it's broken twice. Why can't Apple fix such a blatant flaw in their otherwise great computers? For a brand marketed on it's durability and portability it's a pathetic oversight when their power cords can't even handle a few months of typical use at a desk.

This charger from week one is the cruddiest piece of garbage. It doesn't charge when I plug it in unless I'm on my knees praying to God that it will so that I can get my homework done. I've spent too much money to be dealing with a freaking chord problem. A PC would never have this issue unless I had violently abused it.

Two of the old design broke within a year, so I bought 2 of the new design ones - we have 2 MacBooks . In less than 1 year and one of them is broken again.
For 80 bucks a pop, you'd think it would last a bit longer.
