    Zero Stars

    • Written by from Pointe-Claire

I am on my 4th adapter in 3 years. I got Applecare specifically to keep being able to replace this thing. Its useless. Unless of course you carry it around in a special box to avoid bending any of the cords. Because power cords on a portable computer should not be moved.... How is this issue STILL not being addressed?!

    Absolute junk

    • Written by from Easley

These chargers are the result of form leading function. They look great, but fail prematurely again and again. That's why they were recalled at one point.

The insulation jacket for the cable is too thin and routinely tears. My first cable was replaced for free...but I'm on my way to the store to plunk down an unreasonable $80 for another replacement. My cable's jacket has torn again and the connector is extremely hot to the touch. What an ironically named product.

Apple, admit defeat and provide a safe and reliable cable.

    Constantly Dying

    • Written by from St. Catharines

We have three MacBooks in our home that are all less than two years old. Every power cord/charger has died a sudden and unexplained death at varying times.

From what I read here, the problem is not limited to our Macs.

These chargers are really, really, inadequate and fail too often.

    Major Problem

    • Written by from Hot Springs

I've had my MacBook for nearly 6 years. In that time I've gone through 4 power cords. Why? Because the cord keeps breaking at the base. I've tried using the sides that flip up to store it. I've tried placing a ball between the box and the cord when I wrap it so that the cord isn't bent too directly. Nothing works. Isn't the point of a laptop so that you can take it with you? Well that usually includes taking the power cord, but this is clearly an issue when I have gone through 4 of them in 6 years. I love my Mac, but I am exhausted with every 18 months buying a new power cord for $80 a pop.

    failed charger for macbook pro

    • Written by from Denver

We bought the computer for my daughter who has taken extremely good care of it. Yesterday, she had the problem that so many people are complaining about, her charger cord came apart at the computer connection. I was surprised that an Apple product is so poorly constructed, that it cannot be simply repaired, and that a replacement costs $80 plus tax (for a power cord?). I checked the reviews and learned that this is a common problem. One surprise was finding that the occasional person with a similar complaint gives the product 3 stars. This is definitely a one (not possible to give it zero) star problem.

    HORRIBLE

    • Written by from Bristol

    Really, this deserves 0 stars.

8 months after replacing a failed old T-head magsafe with new (under warranty), I noticed the cord just out of the magnet head had swollen, and it was again not powering up my macbook unless I bent the cord. I tested it on two friends' macbooks and encountered the same problem. I spoke with an Apple Genius who insisted the thing works on their macbooks and that I needed to update my firmware so my mac works with the new adapters, even though my macbook had been working for 8 months with my new adapter and it is still currently working with a friends' new adapter. So now I am shopping for a new adapter since I was given a defective product while under warranty and now am no longer under warranty. Won't be buying it here though because Apple charges $40 more than other online retailers.

    Made to be Constantly Replaced

    • Written by from Miami

Macbook power cords are really bad quality! This is the second time I've had to PURCHASE a new one and my Macbook is not even 2 years old. For what a Macbook costs, they should be replaced for free for the lifetime of the Macbook, since you seem to be unable to produce a good one,

The fact that these adapters are so expensive and of such poor quality is truly frustrating.

    Very Disappointing

    • Written by from Alexandria

I have high expectations from Apple products. Unfortunately, this adapter does not meet them.

I initially ordered this adapter as a replacement for the original which came with my laptop (purchased around 2007). The old one worked well, but gradually the connections inside the end had come loose. The new one was in a different style, but attached and powered the laptop correctly. I thought at the time that 80 dollars for a power cord was rather ridiculous, but affordable if it lasted 3+years.
3 months later, the same problem developed -- the connectors inside the head were loose. I couldn't face paying that amount again so quickly, so ordered a generic one online (25 dollars), which is working fine so far.

    UGH!!!

    • Written by from Tallahassee

I am appalled at apple. I got my macbook pro this past summer, and it came with the new "magsafe" charger. at first I thought it was much better-looking and sleeker than the old white charger, but I now regret praising it. After a mere 5 months, the charger started acting up. I would have to fidget with it and unplug and replug until the little orange light showed up. Then, of course, the slightest shift of the computer caused it to stop charging or reset itself. It was so annoying! Not to mention my macbook has fallend from my bed a total of THREE times because I or someone else have tripped over the cord, bringing my entire life in a computer crashing down. Now, 6 months after purchasing, my charger has completely stopped working, and I've been using my roommate's old charger for the time being. There should be a recall on these chargers. I just want one that works and lasts; I don't care how it looks!!!

    Hate this thing

    • Written by from Baldwinsville

Don't get me wrong - I love the MacBook, but this is the SECOND charger that has died on me in one year's time. SECOND. And I'm ticked. There's another $79 plus shipping down the tubes. Very, very, very unhappy.

    Defective

    • Written by from Penn valley

Horrible charger. The one for my old mac is still going many years later but this one is new and already broken. Light does not go on, it does not charge. I have not done anything to this charger to damage it. Poor quality product. Apple needs to re-design. The old chargers were much better. I hope you read these reviews because I'm not the only one with this problem. You need to fix this problem, Apple!

    Who makes this junk?

    • Written by from Missoula

I've been a Mac person since 2002 and have owned iPods, iPads, laptops, Mac Minis, Apple TV, and various other products. These adapters are without a doubt the worst product that Apple offers.
I've had my current laptop since 2009, and I am online now to by my SIXTH! power adapter for it. The first one lasted about two years, but since then it's been a maximum of 6 months and a minimum of about 30 days.
If we want to continue using the computers, what choice to we have but to continue buying this horrible product?

On my 3rd charger in 2.5 years!!!

    • Written by from Akron

The original charger that came with my MacBook Pro lasted a little over 2 years. Bought a replacement at the apple store and it died a little under 2 months later. Now on my 3rd charger so I'm crossing my fingers. I would expect this kind of thing from other computer companies, but not apple. I love all apple products, but I am slowly starting to hate their computers because of this issue. I will be seriously considering other laptop manufacturers when it is time for a new one.

    • Written by from chicago

for 80 on macbook chargers that last 3 month at most is not worth it, i like apple but the laptop chagers are no good not worth buying a macbook if the charger fails so much. I will buy a regular PC laptop this mac charger is not worth the extra 400 a year on chargers

Seriously?? This is a rotten apple!

    • Written by from Lethbridge

I have had Apple products for several years and the cords are horrible - or should I say HALF the cord is... and the fact that Apple won't let you just buy the part that continues to break - the section that goes to your computer - is a SHAM!! I have 4-5 perfectly working 'bottom' parts, and only one working 'top' part... and you want me to dish out $80 for a kit that sees me buying new bottom parts too?? and do what with these working 'bottoms'?? oh yeh! Throw them in the trash! PLEASE be the upstanding company we thought you were and fix both these problems! think of all the great publicity if nothing else!

    Stop Working

    • Written by from Coral Gables

I bought my MacBook Pro in June of 2010 and in less than two years the charger stopped working. I could leave it plugged in all day and my laptop won't charge at all, the light doesn't turn on - not green for charged or orange for charging. It hasn't been mishandled at all, it just one day stopped working. And that a new one is $80 is a little ridiculous, to say the least.

    THE WORST CABLE EVER BUILD

    • Written by from Caguas

Can Apple do better with this macbook pro 13 charger for the price they ask ?? Is a real piece of crab and is only good to have have it still on a desk and NOT for a laptop.

    Just a #$%ˆ&*( piece of %$*(.

Absolutely the worst charger for ANY portable device EVER made!

    • Written by from College Station

I am about to be on my third charger that has worn out from normal use. I made sure to remove the charger by grabbing the connecter and not the cord too. Everyone one I know who has a macbook of any sort has had at least one charger break. I will NEVER buy a macbook again, solely based on the $80 replacement price of these time bomb chargers.

    SEVEN!

    • Written by from Commerce

I purchased my Macbook in the summer of 2007 and I'm currently having problems with my 6th cord, soon to need a 7th! That is 7 cords in 4 years, 3 of which, replaced in the last 5 months. The first few were wear and tear, frayed in all the usual spots. The last few are unexplainable. Frustrated.
