    Lack of durability

    • Written by from San Marcos

While I like the design for the new chargers better than the old, it is essentially the same. My newest charger lasted about 4 months before it broke. Luckily I have the charger from my previous Macbook, which I've miraculously managed to keep working for 4 years. Spending $80 on a new charger that will likely last less than a year is a painful thing to have to do.

    Great product... when it works

    • Written by from Uniondale

Apple needs to rethink this design. Yes, it might be safer, but the small prongs no longer stay in place and hold a charge. Its not fun when you are down to 3% power and you have to jiggle and wriggle to try and beg your charger to work properly. It has only been two years. I thought it was just me, until I came here to buy a new one and saw other reviews. It's sad that Apple has such loyal and devoted customers who spend so much on their products and when we have to replace a necessary component we find out that it's expensive. Shame on you Apple!

    Poor Design

    • Written by from Annapolis

I have had mine for 2 years now and it still works just fine, the thing I hate about it is the design of it. It's so big that you cannot have 2 items plugged in at the same time on a traditional wall outlet.

    MacBook Pro Power Adapter

    • Written by from Sydney

I have recently having to replace the adapter too. It just does not charge, when tried with another power adapter it worked fine. My MacBook Pro is less than a year old so as the accessories. I do still have a lot of faith in Apple products but at the moment it's rather annoying for having to constantly travelling. Maybe any suggestion on power supply options for frequent travelling (remote area, mostly).

    Not Good

    • Written by from Anchorage

I love my apple products and have been very happy with them up until now. I have an iPod, iPhone, and an iPad in addition to my macbook pro, and before I had my macbook pro I had a macbook. I haven't had any problems with my chargers for my iPods, iPhone, iPad or macbook. I had my macbook for at least 3 years and my sister now has had it for a year and the power cord for that is still going strong. I have had this macbook for barely a year and already have cracking in my power cord. I too am super super super careful with my things, particularly my apple products, so I have no idea why the cord is already cracking and I am having problems with my computer recognizing when it is plugged in. I am not looking forward to paying $79 for a new one particularly since according to the reviews it is just going to fray soon after.

Won't be buying a mac until they fix this

    • Written by from Plymouth

GREAT idea, poor execution. I wouldn't be so disappointed if the replacement cost wasn't so ridiculously high, but cmon! I will be waiting for the this power adapter design to be fixed before buying a new mac.

    6th?

    • Written by from Langhorne

Through the years I've owned multiple apple products and have been satisfied with everything but this. When I had my original charger, it would over heat. Over a year ago I had gotten a puppy - who chewed my $80 MagSafe power cord.. Since then I have been purchasing my cords from a seller on amazon, and have come to find that their products are refurbished, and just as well - trash. My 5th charger is now shot, and I'm debating which to purchase, the yucky cheap one, or take a chance with the expencive official apple product that as well has bad reviews.

    Still Rubbish

    • Written by from Winston Salem

Even with the new design, my latest charger lasted only slightly longer than a year. Of course, this is a remarkable improvement over the slightly-less-than-a-year lifespan of the previous charger design.

    Cable detached from magnetic end

    • Written by from Nashville

Although the magnetic attachment design is much better, the construction is poor. It started with my charge being randomly interrupted before the cable suddenly detached from the magnetic end. I've always been extra careful with Apple power cables due to their reputation and my previous faulty adapters. This was only purchased on 7.7.10... really inconvenient.

    extreme overheating

    • Written by from Coquitlam

The part of the charger that connects to the computer gets so hot in this model that I've actually burned my hand on many occasions. I wish I could have just gotten another of the old version charger when mine stopped working because the heat coming off this one is impossible to work with.

    eh..

I like the MagSafe idea it is great and this came with my 13" white unibody MacBook but the one thing I hate about it is the design....I do not like that the cord comes out the end rather than the side like it did on the old ones. When I use this one, I have to adjust which way it is facing or the cord will be pulled. I kinda miss the old design.

    cord is bad

    • Written by from BURSWOOD

product is great, idea with magnetic plug is brilliant, however it desperately needs to improve quality of 12V power cord rubber material.
I own also toshiba, purchased 8 years ago - power cord still looks as new one.
but, it took 1 year for MagSafe Power adapter and power cord covered with cracks.

    Disappointed

    needs more durability

    • Written by from Alameda

I have spent more money on replacing the adapter/power cord than the computer itself! After several attempts to try to stop my critters from chewing on the cords they still do it (including sprays). Perhaps make the cord a bit more durable or at least provide an option for customers to help protect the loooooong cords.

Over 1400 Reviewers can't be wrong... Mr. Ive, please pay attention!

    • Written by from Denver

Yes, now it was my turn to suffer from a frayed cable with my power adapter after a little over 4 years of owning this thing, but I am EXTREMELY careful with my things. For most people these are lasting a little over a year. I agree that the cable should be a lot more durable, especially at $80 a pop.

I live in Chile now and can't even find a replacement for the 60W MagSafe. I write this review as only 42 minutes remain in my battery, probably one of the last things I will do with my trusty MacBook... So sad...

    Defective!

    • Written by from Brampton

I will admit that I like the style of charger, the magnet is definitely a good idea to prevent cord breakage when it gets accidentally ripped out. However, I do not enjoy the fact that I have been through six (6) chargers within the 2.5 year span I've had my macbook. I'm on my way to seven (7) as my current one has the same issues as all the others. The cable or the magnet, I'm not sure which, does not like to charge, nor does the LED come on to show it's charging, I assume poor connection or faulty wiring in the cable it's self. Currently, I have my adapter taped to my macbook as it's the only way it will charge. It's disheartening that as I as a consumer choose to spend a great deal on a productthat is meant to be lasting, however I am still having these issues. I'm also disappointed that this is a known issue yet nothing has been done to try and rectify it.

    MacBook Pro charger ...

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

While the magnet to connect is an EXCELLENT idea and patent ... The complete product is undermined by its tendacy to break, get hot and melt at connection of the base. This is a continued issue with Apple's adapter. ReThink it and make me proud.

I'm unsatisfied with this $80 adapter that melts and could be a fire hazard.

It gets so hot, I'm surprised no one has report a fire caused by this device.

    Pretty disappointed...

    • Written by from Superior

Alright. I love my Macbook. And I'm very impressed with Apple as a company and the customer service is great every time I call or have any questions. However, my one disappointment is with the 60W Magsafe charger for my white 13" Macbook. I've had my computer since Oct. of 2009. After about a year and a half, I replaced the charger. Granted, I use my computer all the time. I'm a full-time college student--all online. Plus, I use the Macbook for my business as well as for personal stuff like media (music, movies, photos). The system is great. I'm always on the go so I must say, where the description for this charger says, "Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage," I feel the need to add a disclaimer. Where the thin cord branches from the Magsafe square, the perpendicular angle is the issue. It does not wrap and I am very careful with my stuff since I need it for about everything I do. Plus, the cost. I can't afford to be purchasing a new cord at this price when it is a design flaw! I'm very frustrated. It's another year and a half later and I'm replacing the cord again! Where the first cord simply started fraying at the connection point to the Magsafe, this second cord completely broke off--and I even reinforced it with electrical tape so it would add some structural support. Please fix it, Apple.

    doesn't last long

    • Written by from Lisle

this would be the second charger that has stopped working for me... I am truly disappointed in apple for creating such a terrible product. I'll give it two stars because it did charge my laptop but it sure didn't last very long.
