285 REVIEWS AND ONLY 1.5 STARS??? I BOUGHT THIS EXPENSIVE LAPTOP IN DECEMBER 2010 AND THE CORD(CHARGER) NO LONGER WORKS. IS APPLE GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT? I AM INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PRODUCT.

    New Design But Broken Anyway

4/12/13 I'm about to buy my 5th power adapter in 5 years! The last one was the new and improved deal. The problem isn't just in the part that attaches to the computer. It's also the skinny cord that connects to the MagSafe. It kinks and shreds at the connection site. If's too expensive! Either redesign it or at least allow customers to buy just the skinny part & not the whole two part cord & adaptor. Come on APPLE!

It takes a bit of manipulation to attach the charger at the right angle so it starts charging my laptop. What's up with this?!

I now have to buy a 5th charge cord for my 3 year old Macbook pro. It's so frustrating the last one I bought on October 30 so it's only 2 months old. It just stopped working like the other 3 cords did. This really needs to be fixed it makes me mad to have to keep spending so much money on a cord!!!I love my Apple products but I'm thinking I may go with something else the next time I buy a new computer.

There's a reason why it's rated so low. It fails frequently and is WAY overpriced! I'm so upset that I'm going to buy a cheap windows laptop. Shame on apple for putting out such junk!!!!

I have my mac book for two years, I am buying my third power cord. It is very flimsy, cover on wires easily damaged, wires brake. Expensive to replace.

I have had my MacBook Pro 13" for over 3 years and the power adapter is just now starting to malfunction. Although I am disappointed with the price, mine did seem to last longer than a lot of the other reviews that I have read on here. I'm hoping that since it's been 3 years they've made improvements to it. But, I agree that Apple needs to lower the price!!!! I was shocked when I saw how much it costs to replace it.

The design of these chargers is great. They look nice and charge your computer. Thats where the positives stop. I've been through four chargers over the life of my 4 year old macbook pro. They WILL stop working, or the rubber covering will fray away leaving metal wire exposed. These are absolute trash. I'm writing this review on my dying laptop waiting YET ANOTHER replacement cable. If only Microsoft made Apple compatible chargers....

    I Suspect Foul Play

I have had my macbook for three years. In that time, I have been forced to purchase four power adapters, after suffering the exact same cable breakage in every one. I have always been gentle with them. I have never jerked on them, stored them improperly, or used them in bent position. The last cable I even protected with cord casing to no avail. These things simply refuse to stay in working condition. Nothing has improved in the six years since this product was launched. Meanwhile, every other company on the face of the earth manages to manufacture cables which will last a decade and cost less than a third of what the MagSafe does. Do you sense a scam yet? Because you should. These adapters are the paragon of the term "designed for the dump."

So, if you plan on buying a macbook, take into account not only the cost of the computer itself, but the additional 300-500 dollars you'll be spending on replacement adapters over the life of the computer. Expect inconvenience, frustration, and a sense of having been cheated. Or consider buying a different laptop.

    Failed

My father and I purchased a Macbook for my mother about eight months ago. She uses it mainly at her desk, and rarely takes her laptop with her when traveling. It's safe to say she treats her Macbook and power cord very well (seeing as how they aren't being moved too often.) The cord itself is already broken, and an $80 replacement seems a little uncanny for such a basic product. If the power cord can't survive eight months sitting on a desk, then there must be some fatal flaw in it's design. Apple better get on it, because if a simple replacement such as this costs $80 she will most likely not stay an Apple customer.

Seriously piece of junk. Broke less than a year in. Super expensive, super fragile. Not worth the money. Fix this thing up, its pretty bad as of now.

I've got a 2-yr-old macbook and have had to get a new charger each year. I had a windows computer where the charger was less than 20 dollars and it lasted five years before it was deemed totally unsafe--and the replacement had the previous issues FIXED. These computers can survive an approximately 5 ft fall with no issues, provided they land on something like carpet or a chair, so the whole "magsafe" concept probably isn't even REQUIRED. Apple, FIX THIS!!!

    The ONLY negative about Macs

I'm an avid Mac fan - but let me just say, Apple needs to fix a serious problem. The magnetic power cord for their MacBooks is the worst. I've only owned my MacBook Pro for 3 years and the power cord never gets unplugged from its one location - (so it's not being abused) - hence, I always use my MacBook in one location in my house. It won't charge my computer any more - no matter how you wiggle the cord.

After reading review after review, it appears this is a known problem. Yet I see no where that Apple is doing anything about it. So the big question is: WHY NOT? To purchase another cord is a whopping $79 - how absurd is that?! To pay $1000 for a laptop computer and to have this problem. This should not happen with a $1000 product.

I am VERY disappointed in Apple and want to know HOW and WHAT they are going to do to fix this problem. (They had a similar problem with their Earbuds too.)

I have already replaced one charger for my 2009 macbook pro due to the charger overheating (it becomes burning hot) and have to now buy another due to the plastic breaking around the prongs. For my other macbook pro which is less than 6 months old, the charger is overheating (happy I bought an extended warranty as I can see myself replaces these chargers quite a bit). I am surprised that Apple has not redesigned them and recognized that there is a problem. $80-$100.00 to replace them is ridiculous.

unbelievable that i spent what i did to buy my macbook pro and the charger is such poor quality. i really hope apple notices the amount of bad reviews about this product and does something about it. their computers are so great but this charger is terrible. but im sure they don't mind half of their chargers breaking JUST after the 1 year warranty runs out - they must make a fortune on replacement chargers.

I am a University student, and when my dad took me out to buy a laptop, I fell in love with the 13" Mac Book Pro. I am currently a junior, and I am about to order my FOURTH charger. I don't know WHY these chargers do not last, but my homework is all writing and internet extensive. PLEASE, PLEASE, do something about the design to help make it last. Sometimes they only last a few months, this recent one has almost made it a year. But that's not good enough.

Having to buy my third one because of the poor strain relief design. After a while the cable frays where it connects to the magsafe connector and soon all the magic smoke leaves the circuit and it stops working.

I have had my MacBook Pro for 18 months and I am about to purchase my third power adapter. The design of the power cord is significantly flawed as the magnetic part detaches from the rest of the cord. I do not place stress on my power cord, it doesn't get thrown into bags, I don't spin in circles while holding my computer, or even have it in a place where stress is placed on the cord, yet they continue to break. Beware.

91 days and it no longer works...and I am in Afghanistan for a year

I purchased a MACBOOK Pro based on its durability, size and capability to ensure that I could Facetime with my family while deployed for a year. Too bad the peripherals, like the power cord, are not as durable as the MACBOOK itself. After 91 days the adapter stopped working so Apple won't cover it and now I can no longer Facetime with my family. This is a horrible adapter and I do not believe it is worth $80. Thanks for the support Apple. Hopefully there will be a better design in the future. If Apple chooses to investigate and fix this issue with weak power adapters, maybe they will replace the cords for those MACBOOK Pro customers affected. I am very dissatisfied with this adapter.
