    Its not working

    • Written by from Portland

This product suddenly quit working after 3 months of life . . .
it is simply worthless . . . and now I need to buy another one
which is frustrating because I know I am not the only one with
this problem . .. it should last longer than a few months . . .

Will this next one be as bad?

    Cable detached from magnetic end

    • Written by from Nashville

Although the magnetic attachment design is much better, the construction is poor. It started with my charge being randomly interrupted before the cable suddenly detached from the magnetic end. I've always been extra careful with Apple power cables due to their reputation and my previous faulty adapters. This was only purchased on 7.7.10... really inconvenient.

    Great Design, Flawed Execution

    • Written by from Torrance

I have liked the idea of a magnetic charger because I work long hours on my laptops and have had people, myself included, trip over wires and send my laptop flying. No longer the case. I owned my first MacBook Pro for 3 years. I always buy the 3 year extended warrantee because I work long hours on my laptops and have burned through quite a few pc models. All the cords on my pcs eventually broke and needed replacing but not at the pace the magsafe adapter. In the 3 years since I've owned the macbook, the cord has been replaced 5 times. That would have cost me $440 (with tax) had I not bought the extended warrantee. The previous replacements were on the old style adapter, where cord fatigue played a big role. The newer models might fare differently, we'll see.

    Not Good and doesn't last

    • Written by from Midland

The sheathing came off the wires on the original one that came with my macbook and lasted just over 2 years. I had to buy a new one and this one is just over 4 months old and the wires became disconnected and stopped working. Good thing it has a 1 year warranty. Hopefully don't have to replace it again soon.

    MagSafe for 13" book

    • Written by from Shreveport

Started with the old one, the cable wore at the magnetic plug, like others have said. Went to the updated one; first one, bought at BestBuy, didn't last a year, has quit working. Bought 2nd one from a local authorized Mac repair guy, buys his stuff from Apple. Will see........

    Surprisingly awful product

    • Written by from Goshen

I purchased my MacBook Pro for college. Naturally, I expected great things from a company who advocates so strongly for education. The MagSafe Power Adapter has NEVER worked properly. Each time I connect it to my MacBook, I have to play around with it before the light goes on and my computer charges at all. Now, after reading MANY reviews, I fear that soon it will stop working altogether. I'm extremely disappointed in Apple for its failure to produce a dependable product. As a student, I depend on my computer for my education, and if my computer has no power, what am I supposed to do?

    disappointed

    • Written by from Los angeles

This item shorted out on me faster than any charger I've ever owned. For $79, I expect it to last more than 7 months, especially when it had been meticulously cared for and gently handled.

Sad to have to buy another replacement so soon.

    A disappointment.

    • Written by from Kuna

I love my Macbook and every part about it... except this. After 11 and 1/2 months from buying my Mac, the charger cable started to go out on me. Sometimes when I touched it it even would feel extremely hot. Luckily for me, though, I still had Apple's lovely warranty and was able to receive a new charger for free.

Apple please either cut the price or improve the quality of this charger!

    Help me please.

I've had my Macbook Pro 13" since the beginning of July.
It's January now, and the charger is really making me mad.
Whenever the cord is in an awkward position, it just stops charging, so what do I do?

    Horrible design

    • Written by from lake orion

After my old cord broke off in my computer, from being 3 years old I'm assuming? which was the old design,I had to get the new design power cord and I am not happy with it. In order to charge my computer I must now take off the bottom cover case that I purchased through apple ( a pink incase design) because that slight quarter of an inch does not allow the power adaptor to reach inside the computer. Never had a problem with the design of the old power cord but after having this one for several hours I know it is going to be very inconvenient.

    Replaceable You

    • Written by from BURRADOO

Ever since my beloved aluminum Powerbook, I've been fighting with the Incredible Breaking Cord on these things. The wire gets broken right below where it inserts into the computer. THERE IS A FIX. I wrap red electrical tape several times around the vulnerable part. The tape cushions and protects the wire. I've never had one of them break since.

Now there is a new design--and it looks as though Apple have actually been trying to fix the problem. But I think the new design is as vulnerable to breakage as the old one--and harder to protect with tape. But what I don't get is why they don't just accept the inevitable and design the adapter in such a way that the cord from the adapter can be unplugged and replaced--at a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole darn assembly. Could it be that Apple makes more money out of these accessories than out of the computer itself. . . .?

2 Macbooks, 2 Adapters, Same Fate

    • Written by from Fort Rucker

Have to admit, I have no desire to spend $200 on new adapters my me and my wife. Our macbooks are "deskbooks" and never go anywhere, yet both adapters are broken. I have a black one, she has a white one, and both adapters are dying. Her's is falling apart, mine won't charge the battery unless I wiggle and lick it (yes, lick it). While I love the computers, this is ridiculous. Apple, you've got to do better! I've had macs for years and it wasn't until MagSafe that chargers became unreliable.

    extreme overheating

    • Written by from Coquitlam

The part of the charger that connects to the computer gets so hot in this model that I've actually burned my hand on many occasions. I wish I could have just gotten another of the old version charger when mine stopped working because the heat coming off this one is impossible to work with.

    Breaks Easy

    • Written by from FREEPORT

Made poorly. Owned my MACBOOK for about eight months than it started to give me problems charging "on and off" for about 2 -3 weeks before It stopped charging completely. The tip fell off while examining the cord. Got a new one, but feel apple should revisit the problem. Like the magnetic feature but feel quality and construction is still lacking.

First the hard drive and now my Apple 60W Magsafe Power Adapter...broken

    • Written by from Pickering

In May/June 2010 my 13" 2007 Macbook hard drive died but I did get a replacement due to an issue with some hard drives for that year. Dec 2010 the wire casing on my original 60W Magsafe Power Adapter suddenly separated leaving the wire(s) exposed not by the magnetic end but at the other end by the adapter box. I am always careful with my Macbook and never handle it roughly. I also never leave the power adapter lying around after using it and never pull on the cord, so I am extremely surprised that the casing should come apart. I have taped it with electrical tape, but it will not work. Also, the adapter would get extremely hot. I cannot use my Mac until I can afford another power adapter. I don't have enough space to explain the issue I had with the replacement hard drive....all I can say is I like Apple but it's just too expensive.

    Expected better

    • Written by from Oakdale

It's really sad, because I was just telling a friend that the "L" style magsafe was much better than the "T", but now the magsafe just broke off entirely from the wire. From the looks of it, the wire was twisting a lot and the threads finally just gave and snapped off. I can only assume it's from a lot of travel, but since it's a cord for a notebook of all things, it really should be able to withstand more than this. Portable machines need to travel better, WITH its charger. I haven't even had this one for more than two months.
