    Awesome design, but....

    • Written by from White Pigeon

it dies/gives trouble very quickly (about a year or less). I have the late 2010 MacBook Pro 13" and my charger just recently started to act up. Sometimes it will charge, sometimes not. Most times it will get very, very hot (too hot to touch) right on the connector. It's most certainly not worth $80 for a new one. Apple should have a full-scale recall on these. I definitely wouldn't go as far as never buying another Apple product just because a lemon charger (as some other people are saying in these reviews). Now I'm stuck with a non-OEM replacement (NOT Apple's fault, GeekSquads fault), but who knows, it may last longer.

    this product is horrible!

    • Written by from Staten Island

I had the same magsafe power adaptor for three years. It finally burnt out n i went through 3 more of them since. All lasting less than 6 months each. For the ridiculous amount of money charged for these adaptors, they should last way over 6 months. On top of it, they tried upgrading it n changed the part that goes into the Mac which is worse. It doesn't last as long. You would think with all the complaints, they would either lessen the $79 a pop to purchase or Make the product worth buying by improving it. Shame on apple because your other products are wonderful

We have three of these chargers in my family and one is completely dead, the second only works half the time and the third is fine...pretty pitiful. Somebody at Apple FIX THIS.

I love the design of the magsafe but I just purchased my 3rd one in less than 3 years. My two previous chargers broke in different places so there is more than one weak point. The charger just is not durable enough. I have taken good care of my chargers and have tried to protect them. Hopefully this next one will last.

The charger only lasted 8 months. Not to imply that it should last for years and years, but seriously 8 months? Yes, it gets hot, but so do almost every laptop chargers. I'm just annoyed that it die after eight months and that I now have to shell out a whopping eighty bucks for a poorly designed product.

Ugh; I thought this one would last longer...

    • Written by from Portland

I thought the new angle of the wire would make this power adapter last longer than the previous model, but it's about a year later, and here I am, replacing it again. It's my annual $79 power brick tax, for the third time in three years.

I love the magsafe mechanism; it's kept the dog and the kid from knocking the laptop over a number of times, but it seems to me that they could build a joint to last a bit better for $79. If it were $20 or $30 I wouldn't mind replacing it every year, but when the price is encroaching on $100, for a power brick, I expect it to last for at least two or three years.

It charges, but only for the first few months.

    • Written by from Grant Park

I absolutely hate this charger. Yes, it's nice to know that if I trip over it, my $1,300 machine won't go flying, but the price I pay is a non-flexible, charging tube. It's a terrible concept. Yesterday I called Apple and asked for a replacement (which is costing me $72) and I fear that unless I don't use it at all, it'll soon fail again. This design does not compliment the fine job behind the development of the MacBook Pro. It doesn't even come close.

    Enjoy it while it lasts!

    • Written by

yes the design is sleek, cute and lovely... that is until it packs up for no just cause.

I used my new macbook for 9 mths before the power startd malfunctioning, sometimes comes on and sometimes off, i need to adjust d flexible cable before i can get a permanent on. after 2 weeks of doing this, it's packed up completely. I bought a replacement (85W) for it and used the original ac power cord. this new one packed up in 2 weeks exactly.
It was then I saw many similar reviews of faulty power packs for macbook and I felt fortunate that mine lasted that long.

My advice to Users: You'll love your mac if you just bought one. Enjoy it while it lasts. Guard the power cord like your private parts; dont put any strain whatsoever on it; dont tie it up, bend, curve, tie up the flexible wire in anyway at all, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with it, and you might use it longer than i used mine.

Advice to APPLE: you could do better with something as mundane as power pack... PLUS, the replacement is way too expensive, so much that i've had to suspend the use of my mac for a while.

With very poor reviews for the adapter, you should do something quickly please... AT LEAST FOR THE LOVE OF THE MAC! and its teeming fans

    Built to Break

    • Written by

After having my MacBook for a little over a year, my charger slowly gave out (within about a two week period) just as I can see this product has done for many other people... very frustrating that the replacement is so expensive when these things are so short lived. This is something I will take into strong consideration when debating between Apple and Windows in the future. Either fix the product or lower the price.

    Year One & Done.

    • Written by from Clymer

I purchased a Macbook Pro shortly after graduating from highschool, and I fell in love with it! Exactly a year and three days later after receiving my computer, my power adapter is dying. I've been reading reviews, and tons of people say the SAME thing! Such a rip off. Apple needs to come to the realization that this product is faulty. Either make a better product, or replace your customers' products who are dying left and right! I'm not pleased about spending another 80 dollars after buying a 1500 dollar computer!

    60w magsafe power adapter

    • Written by from BROOKLYN

Apple needs to improve their power adapters. I shouldn't have to wiggle at the base of the "L" shape adapter in order the get the light to turn on. It hasn't been a year and I already have to get a new power adapter! From the reviews that I have read, Apple seems to have had this problem for a while. My MacBook was my first lap top, I hope it's not my last!

    Good idea, but failed execution.

    • Written by from Byron Center

The magnet part of the power adapter hasn't failed me due to the fact that I have tripped over it several times already and I enjoy not nocking my laptop onto the floor. But due to the fact that the cord itself is about 4 feet long, it renders the power adapter almost useless, unless you have an extensive cord of course. Since the chord is so short I find myself pulling the adapter falling out of my computer almost every time I move. Good idea apple, but make the chord a little bit longer for easier reach.

    Works Fine But...

    • Written by from Norwalk

Why is it 80 bucks? Way too much for just a replacement power adapter. I also must say that while the right-angle design of the power connector to the computer is great for people who charge their laptops on a desk or in a stationary place, people like me who don't always sit at a desk but still need charging for power hungry applications will find this design troublesome. The reason I needed a replacement adapter was because this right-angle design puts too much stress on the cable while on the go, and eventually the repetitive bending wears out the copper cable inside. Under daily use, these adapters will not last longer than a year, and 80 bucks a year is too steep a price to pay just to charge my computer.

    Stupid Charger...

    • Written by from Marietta

While I do like the more slimline charger head, at least the old charger was one piece. Mine broke (The magnetic piece separated from the main part of the charger.) about 7 months into having it, so until I buy a new one, I have to tape it to the computer to stay in. :/

I have been using Apple computers since the early 90's. Awesome machines and now I have other Apple devices in my home and we love them. For whatever reason my wife's power cord just randomly started dying on her Macbook (less than a year old) and she had to buy a new one. When she told me it cost her nearly $100 at our local Best Buy to replace her much needed cord yesterday, I nearly started crying! Really? $100? It takes me way too long to earn $100 these days... Oh how I wish I could get that time back...

I just had to take the time to tell you that I still love you, but our love affair sure does cost a lot!

    Thanks
