I will admit that I like the style of charger, the magnet is definitely a good idea to prevent cord breakage when it gets accidentally ripped out. However, I do not enjoy the fact that I have been through six (6) chargers within the 2.5 year span I've had my macbook. I'm on my way to seven (7) as my current one has the same issues as all the others. The cable or the magnet, I'm not sure which, does not like to charge, nor does the LED come on to show it's charging, I assume poor connection or faulty wiring in the cable it's self. Currently, I have my adapter taped to my macbook as it's the only way it will charge. It's disheartening that as I as a consumer choose to spend a great deal on a productthat is meant to be lasting, however I am still having these issues. I'm also disappointed that this is a known issue yet nothing has been done to try and rectify it.

    Very Flimsy

    • Written by from Iselin

I have had my MBP for 2 years now, and I have had to replace the charger once already due to the fraying of the wire. Luckily for me the apple store replaced it free of charge, because they saw the charger was kept in good condition so it not working, wasn't due to carelessness. Even after two years, people ask me why my MBP looks so new.

    Great product... when it works

    • Written by from Uniondale

Apple needs to rethink this design. Yes, it might be safer, but the small prongs no longer stay in place and hold a charge. Its not fun when you are down to 3% power and you have to jiggle and wriggle to try and beg your charger to work properly. It has only been two years. I thought it was just me, until I came here to buy a new one and saw other reviews. It's sad that Apple has such loyal and devoted customers who spend so much on their products and when we have to replace a necessary component we find out that it's expensive. Shame on you Apple!

    Stoped Working

    • Written by from Monroe

It worked great for a year exactly and today I plugged it in my 2011 macbook pro and nothing it won't charge. I have tried it off and on all day and get mixed results sometimes it works but then as soon as I unplug it and try and plug it back in nothing. I wish they would go back to the old design.

    $80? Seriously?

    • Written by from Chicago

I'm using electric tape to hold my flimsy charger together and it's officially broken after two years of owning my Macbook. Then I go on your website to find out how much a new one costs, and find out it's 80 dollars? I swear, Apple, one thing that makes me so mad about your company is that your products are so expensive. It's a flimsy, easily breakable charger! It's not worth $80! $80 should guarantee me a charger that works for at least 5 years. This is garbage. And what's messed up is that I don't trust buying it from anywhere else in fear of it breaking in a week. But you know what? I'm taking the risk because there's no way I'm buying it from your company. $80. Get real.

    Poor Design

    • Written by from Annapolis

I have had mine for 2 years now and it still works just fine, the thing I hate about it is the design of it. It's so big that you cannot have 2 items plugged in at the same time on a traditional wall outlet.

    MacBook Pro charger ...

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

While the magnet to connect is an EXCELLENT idea and patent ... The complete product is undermined by its tendacy to break, get hot and melt at connection of the base. This is a continued issue with Apple's adapter. ReThink it and make me proud.

I'm unsatisfied with this $80 adapter that melts and could be a fire hazard.

It gets so hot, I'm surprised no one has report a fire caused by this device.

    MacBook Pro Power Adapter

    • Written by from Sydney

I have recently having to replace the adapter too. It just does not charge, when tried with another power adapter it worked fine. My MacBook Pro is less than a year old so as the accessories. I do still have a lot of faith in Apple products but at the moment it's rather annoying for having to constantly travelling. Maybe any suggestion on power supply options for frequent travelling (remote area, mostly).

    Poor and unreliable

    • Written by from South Saint Paul

It's ridiculous how short of a life these things have. For something so expensive I'd expect it to last longer than two years. The design is nice, the magnet is helpful, but overall I am not satisfied.

    Pretty disappointed...

    • Written by from Superior

Alright. I love my Macbook. And I'm very impressed with Apple as a company and the customer service is great every time I call or have any questions. However, my one disappointment is with the 60W Magsafe charger for my white 13" Macbook. I've had my computer since Oct. of 2009. After about a year and a half, I replaced the charger. Granted, I use my computer all the time. I'm a full-time college student--all online. Plus, I use the Macbook for my business as well as for personal stuff like media (music, movies, photos). The system is great. I'm always on the go so I must say, where the description for this charger says, "Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage," I feel the need to add a disclaimer. Where the thin cord branches from the Magsafe square, the perpendicular angle is the issue. It does not wrap and I am very careful with my stuff since I need it for about everything I do. Plus, the cost. I can't afford to be purchasing a new cord at this price when it is a design flaw! I'm very frustrated. It's another year and a half later and I'm replacing the cord again! Where the first cord simply started fraying at the connection point to the Magsafe, this second cord completely broke off--and I even reinforced it with electrical tape so it would add some structural support. Please fix it, Apple.

    doesn't last long

this would be the second charger that has stopped working for me... I am truly disappointed in apple for creating such a terrible product. I'll give it two stars because it did charge my laptop but it sure didn't last very long.

    adaptor failure

    • Written by from Rochester

I too am unimpressed with the adaptor to my Mac Book Pro. I love the computer but my cord started to fray and break near the computer plug in. It has nice strong cord but the problem is that the reinforcement is not made where the wire usually bends which causes major problems. I bought mine just a year and a half ago.

Apple needs to make it more durable!

    • Written by from Levittown

I got this charger in the box with my brand new 13" Macbook Pro back in Feb. 2012.
It worked fine up until a few weeks ago; there's something wrong with the cord. I tend to take very good care of my things so I have no clue how the cord got damaged. Now, in order for my computer to charge, I have to restart my computer (sometimes that doesn't work) or play around with the cord to get it in the right position so that it can charge.
So, basically, it's a good charger and it will last you a long time if you let it sit in one spot for its lifetime. It will only last you 6-8 months if you move it.

    Cord Wears Out Too Easily

    • Written by from Oakton

Just made it through one year with my MacBook Pro and the cord near the brick wore completely out. The snap in place and flexibility of the cord is brilliant, but the cord needs to be much more durable.

    Doesn't last

    • Written by from Conshokocken

My charger just broke for the second time in a year and a half of having it. I don't want to spend $79.00 on a new charger but what other choice do i have. The ones being sold on Ebay and Amazon are damaged too. The extension chord is not the problem it is the power box or the chord that directly plugs into the computer. The only good thing I can say about this product is that when it works it charges the computer quickly. Apple needs to get a move on improving their charger quality.

Horrible Quality for Such a High Price

    • Written by from Buena Park

The charger lasted me for around 6 months or 6 1/2 months. On top of that I bought a 3 year coverage BUT they did not replace it for whatever reason. However being a poor college student I could not afford a new one so my Dad and I tinkered till we made it . And by the way it did not break because of me, it broke because it frayed. So yeah... Apple I adore you, but you are making me slowly into a PC girl.

Disconnectability of Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter, Model No.: A1344

    • Written by from Goettingen

Apple claims that the Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that will disconnect from the computer upon undue strain. This however is not entirely true. The new model of the MagSafe Adapter, Model No.: A1344, is really worse compared to the older models featuring the disconnectable magnetic DC connector. If the strain is applied in the direction of the power cable while it's connected, in other words, if one were to simply pull the cable while it is connected to the laptop, the connector does not disconnect but simply pulls the entire laptop along with it instead. This is exactly what happened with my laptop. I tripped over the power cable, unaware that it was coiled around my leg, and I ended up pulling the laptop down from the table. Fortunately, the aluminium casing took most of the impact and the computer is still functional. However, this is the very risk that Apple claims to avoid by their innovative power cable design. I'm really dissatisfied with this new model. I strongly urge Apple to revert to their older model of DC connectors that were truly disconnectable under strain applied in any direction.
