    Fix it!

    • Written by from Hendersonville

I don't know how a company can make such polarizing products that are forced to work together: the mac book pro (which I love) and the charger (one of the most incompetent pieces of electrical equipment I have ever owned). I am on my forth charger in four years and will NOT be buying another one. The last one only lasted 6 months before it just randomly stopped working without any warning. I hope they understand this is a deal breaker for customers, but maybe they don't care. Please fix this immediately!

    Fragile

    • Written by from Plymouth

The expensive part of the charger is obviously the charger itself, but the cord coming out of it is weak and cannot be replaced.

Is it possible Apple designs them poorly so you have to buy a new one every few years? Maybe, but it's not like you have any choice.

    9-month lifespan

    • Written by from Lewisville

In March 2013 I had to replace both the battery and the charging cable that originally came with my late 2008-model 13in MacBook. I wasn't too upset about it, since I had used my MacBook VERY heavily and getting 4.5 years out of those parts seemed perfectly fair and reasonable to me - it still does.

HOWEVER... It's now mid-December 2013 and my 9-month old power cord is no longer working normally. Two hours ago, it stopped charging and because I was aware of the poor reviews this charger had at the time I purchased it, I knew immediately that my luck had run out, and now I'll have to shell out $80 in order to keep using my laptop. For the record, I babied this cord for the entire time it worked. It laid flat on my floor, was never stepped on, or kinked up, or otherwise treated in any way other than gently. I only ever wrapped the cord up three times when I traveled out of town.

I'm using some the precious battery time I have left (70% and counting) to write this review. I am so angry and disappointed in Apple. How can they continue to manufacture and sell such an inferior ESSENTIAL product? I could forgive a poor quality pair of earbuds or phone case, but a laptop charger that won't last you a year?! It's unforgivable and I wish I could say it's unacceptable but what choice do I have now? I need my laptop. I'm going to have to buy another one of these terrible chargers. To add insult to injury, the closest Apple store is 250 miles away, so I'll have to order it online. At least the cord had the decency to die during the 'free shipping' holiday promotion.

    Old design was better

    • Written by from MUSTANG

The original charger that came with my MacBook Pro in 2009 was a lot better than this. It was in the "T" style format. Now with this "L" format, it seems I have to treat the charger like a game of "Operation." One small move and the power cord decides not to work.

PLEASE go back to the old style, Apple. I don't want to leave you, but this charger makes me lose patience in you.

Macbooks are excellent products and their higher price is understandable. I cannot understand, though, why this piece that keeps disintegrating by itself is sold at this outrageous price!? If it were a durable and long-lasting product, I would understand the price differential. But this is just that poor. Also, it appears that consumer feedback is not really valued by Apple as I see overwhelming disapproval for this product, but this is neither fixed nor sold at a price commensurate to its horrible quality - You should add the rating of zero or -1 for this product.

    The Newer the Cheaper?

    • Written by from Florence

My original mac book charger from 2007 lasted me until 2012. It had been fraying a bit at the box and was finally done for when my friend ran her rolling chair over it. I purchased a new charger then in 2012 and now in 2013 I just came back from traveling and it suddenly is just dead. No signs of damage but no signs of life! My old one was amazing, so what the heck is wrong with this one! Apparently the newer they are, the cheaper they are made and they die quickly. Those who have ones from before say 2010, you are lucky, keep it going!

I'd give the old ones 5 stars, the new ones, 1.

This will be my fourth Power Adapter Purchase

    • Written by from Fredericksburg

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and my third adapter just blew out. Seriously these cords are a major fire hazard (my second did create a small one). They get too hot near the base of the connection and before you know it the cord rips open from the heat and you can see all the lovely electrical wire coming apart before your eyes. It wasn't as big of a deal when I was still in school and paid $10 each time but now out of school I have to fork up $79 on a product that I know won't last a year.

    Movin' on to PC

    • Written by from Silverdale

This will be the third charger that I have purchased from Apple. The first one lasted awhile and I had no problems with it until all of a sudden my computer would not charge unless I wrapped the cord around it or put my laptop upside down. Then it stopped working all together, so I bought a new one that exploded after 1 month. So here I am, buying a third because I have to finish a final project and don't have time to buy a new laptop. Let me tell you, I will NOT be buying anything else from Apple. Seeing how many negative customer reviews are on this product, you should probably take the time to pretend you care and at least admit your product is incompetent and outrageously overpriced.

    60w magsafe charger

    • Written by from Sanford

I would give this product negative stars if i could. I am on my fourth charger and soon will be on my fifth. It looks like the small pins that charge the computer loose there spring action making them not connect to the charging terminals. You can expect this product to last six to twelve months.

    8th time is the charm?

    • Written by from Marlton

Absolutely terrible. I bought my most recent magsafe charger two months ago, and it has already broken. That was my seventh charger in three and a half years. I make sure to take good care of my chargers, too. I do exactly what Apple says, I use the clip to make sure the "L" head doesn't get bent, and I wrap the rest of the wire with a loop on the end to ensure it doesn't break. None of this matters, clearly, as there are no signs of physical damage, yet the chargers always burn out. Apple then chargers $80 for a product that any other company would recall. Completely unsatisfied.

    This product needs serious work.....

    • Written by from Ottawa

I love everything about my Mac, it is going strong six years since I purchased it, but the power adapters are absolutely atrocious. In particular, the cord keeps fraying at the part where the white box transitions into the cable that leads to the computer. I bought one of these less than a month ago and despite assiduously following all the instructions, less than a month of moderate use already sees the cord showing signs of fraying. It simply is not viable to keep spending $80.00 a month on power adapters. Unless Apple releases a fix for this, I am afraid I am going to switch back to PCs for my next laptop.

If I could rate it ZERO stars I would

    • Written by from High Point

Limit my review to 300 words or less? Where to begin…1.5 stars with 1800 reviews. That says a lot on its own. This is the FOURTH charger I've bought, FOUR. And I am not happy about it. You're selling me a $2000 computer, Apple. All I'm asking for is a CHARGER THAT WORKS. One that lasts longer than six months. This is unacceptable. Just madness.

Why hasn't this been recalled and fixed yet.

    • Written by from Madison

I have had problems with these chargers for years and with two separate computers. Its the only think I have ever had to use my Apple Care on. Three chargers have stopped working in as many years and I just replaced one this June and it has already stopped working after only 5 months!! Even when it is plugged into a surge protector the charger gets extremely, dangerously hot. Apple's offers up only excuses as to why these stop working and blame the consumer for not using them properly. Excuse me? We also have had a PC in our household for over 4 year and have never had any problems with its charger. There really should be a petition to get apple to fix these or replace them free of charge when they inevitably stop working.

    No problems

    • Written by from Missoula

Three months on works perfectly. My old one lasted five years, and I see no reason this one won't. The only caveat is that, as a minor electronics geek, I have learned to care for cables that I can't afford to have break. All flexible cables have weak spots where they enter and exit other parts and components. I abandoned the fold-out hooks on my old adapter and this one too because of the angle where the cord exits the brick. Pulling the cord at ninety degrees to wrap it will make it fail sooner. I also never pull on the cord to release the MagSafe. Take simple precautions and this will last years.

At 80$ a pop your Macbook costs much more than you think

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I'm off to buy my third replacement cord. At $80 a pop, my macbook pro is costing me roughly 20% more than my original purchase price. I've never had to replace a PC laptops power supply. Very disappointing that Apple can't come up with a durable design for the charger's connectors..

    • Written by from New York

This has to be my third replacement MagSafe already. First two just stopped working after about 3 -4 months of gentle use, at the latest replacement the plastic wire cover just came apart and exposed the wires which started to fray shortly thereafter. Terrible quality.
