Power cord for my Mac Air

    • Written by from Lake Worth

I love my mac air! I dislike the power cord! I am about to buy another power cord going on my THIRD?! I know its not me now by all these comments but also after I replaced it the first time i knew it not me because I didn't coil it, it stays in one place and it still ripped and exposed the wires.

    Cheap

    • Written by from Boston

Like everyone else, my laptop is fine, just about to purchase my third charger. The first one, the wires became exposed and then stopped working this second one just stopped working this morning for no apparent reason. At $80 the chargers need to be better lasting. I've only had my MAC for 18 months. Right now I'm trying really hard to remember why I made the switch because none of my PC's chargers ever broke, and lasted me at least 4 YEARS each.

Such a superlative computer. Such an admired company. Why such a cheesy part? Why such customer gouging prices? What a shame.

The planet is fine, the people are f*ed

    • Written by from Vilnius

This product is fine - it's sturdy for it's size and weight and efficient for charging time. For all the people complaining about it breaking near the tip of the charger - who's fault do you think it is?

    Do YOU:
*even use the clip-on on the wire to make a straight connection?
*you carefully wind the wire around the "horns" when carrying it?
*you ever pick up the whole charger by the small cord?

If you do, then it's your fault. Get huge chargers with mega layers of protection - go buy a DELL, that will last you for ever...

    Please do something.

I've bought 3 chargers at this point. I take care of them as if they where made of crystal and they just won't last!

Guys from Apple: Do you really use this product as much as an end user does?
Please upgrade this. I love all of your products but this one is just not working for me.

I live far away from an Apple Store so, when I order something online, it takes 1 month or more to arrive and I really need to use my Macbook everyday.

This adapter won't last. Mine lasted for about 2 years and now the inner wires are totally exposed. Apple should recall this product!

    Not worth it...Short Life.

    • Written by from Ann Arbor

If the cord rarely leaves the room then, I suppose this product would be fine. However, as a college student, this cord will last at MAX maybe two years. I've seen it with all of my mac friends too. I am tired of purchasing replacement chargers. It is not worth so much money. Why can't the design be FIXED?!

    TERRIBLE

    • Written by from Buffalo

This is the most embarrassing product apple makes. How can a company charge $80 for a charger that is only going to last a year?

My chargers have always stopped working with no signs of damage on the outside.

    Awful

    • Written by from Traverse city

These chargers are great when they actually work, however in the past year I have replaced my 80$ charger three times. It appears to be the skinny cord that constantly looses its connection. One of these days Apple should put a little effort into their charger design, I would think that 1K+ horrible reviews would be enough for them to realize their pos product needs reworking.

I own my Macbook pro since a year, and this is my third charger. Product breaks easily, and it's way too expensive for its cheap quality.

    Fix it!

    • Written by from Hendersonville

I don't know how a company can make such polarizing products that are forced to work together: the mac book pro (which I love) and the charger (one of the most incompetent pieces of electrical equipment I have ever owned). I am on my forth charger in four years and will NOT be buying another one. The last one only lasted 6 months before it just randomly stopped working without any warning. I hope they understand this is a deal breaker for customers, but maybe they don't care. Please fix this immediately!

    Fragile

    • Written by from Plymouth

The expensive part of the charger is obviously the charger itself, but the cord coming out of it is weak and cannot be replaced.

Is it possible Apple designs them poorly so you have to buy a new one every few years? Maybe, but it's not like you have any choice.

    9-month lifespan

    • Written by from Lewisville

In March 2013 I had to replace both the battery and the charging cable that originally came with my late 2008-model 13in MacBook. I wasn't too upset about it, since I had used my MacBook VERY heavily and getting 4.5 years out of those parts seemed perfectly fair and reasonable to me - it still does.

HOWEVER... It's now mid-December 2013 and my 9-month old power cord is no longer working normally. Two hours ago, it stopped charging and because I was aware of the poor reviews this charger had at the time I purchased it, I knew immediately that my luck had run out, and now I'll have to shell out $80 in order to keep using my laptop. For the record, I babied this cord for the entire time it worked. It laid flat on my floor, was never stepped on, or kinked up, or otherwise treated in any way other than gently. I only ever wrapped the cord up three times when I traveled out of town.

I'm using some the precious battery time I have left (70% and counting) to write this review. I am so angry and disappointed in Apple. How can they continue to manufacture and sell such an inferior ESSENTIAL product? I could forgive a poor quality pair of earbuds or phone case, but a laptop charger that won't last you a year?! It's unforgivable and I wish I could say it's unacceptable but what choice do I have now? I need my laptop. I'm going to have to buy another one of these terrible chargers. To add insult to injury, the closest Apple store is 250 miles away, so I'll have to order it online. At least the cord had the decency to die during the 'free shipping' holiday promotion.

    Old design was better

    • Written by from MUSTANG

The original charger that came with my MacBook Pro in 2009 was a lot better than this. It was in the "T" style format. Now with this "L" format, it seems I have to treat the charger like a game of "Operation." One small move and the power cord decides not to work.

PLEASE go back to the old style, Apple. I don't want to leave you, but this charger makes me lose patience in you.

    Enthusiastic Macbook user - Alexei

    • Written by from Washington

Macbooks are excellent products and their higher price is understandable. I cannot understand, though, why this piece that keeps disintegrating by itself is sold at this outrageous price!? If it were a durable and long-lasting product, I would understand the price differential. But this is just that poor. Also, it appears that consumer feedback is not really valued by Apple as I see overwhelming disapproval for this product, but this is neither fixed nor sold at a price commensurate to its horrible quality - You should add the rating of zero or -1 for this product.

    The Newer the Cheaper?

    • Written by from Florence

My original mac book charger from 2007 lasted me until 2012. It had been fraying a bit at the box and was finally done for when my friend ran her rolling chair over it. I purchased a new charger then in 2012 and now in 2013 I just came back from traveling and it suddenly is just dead. No signs of damage but no signs of life! My old one was amazing, so what the heck is wrong with this one! Apparently the newer they are, the cheaper they are made and they die quickly. Those who have ones from before say 2010, you are lucky, keep it going!

I'd give the old ones 5 stars, the new ones, 1.

This will be my fourth Power Adapter Purchase

    • Written by from Fredericksburg

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and my third adapter just blew out. Seriously these cords are a major fire hazard (my second did create a small one). They get too hot near the base of the connection and before you know it the cord rips open from the heat and you can see all the lovely electrical wire coming apart before your eyes. It wasn't as big of a deal when I was still in school and paid $10 each time but now out of school I have to fork up $79 on a product that I know won't last a year.

    Movin' on to PC

    • Written by from Silverdale

This will be the third charger that I have purchased from Apple. The first one lasted awhile and I had no problems with it until all of a sudden my computer would not charge unless I wrapped the cord around it or put my laptop upside down. Then it stopped working all together, so I bought a new one that exploded after 1 month. So here I am, buying a third because I have to finish a final project and don't have time to buy a new laptop. Let me tell you, I will NOT be buying anything else from Apple. Seeing how many negative customer reviews are on this product, you should probably take the time to pretend you care and at least admit your product is incompetent and outrageously overpriced.
