six of these chargers and not a single good one

    • Written by from Indio

Between my boyfriend and I we have gone through SIX of these chargers in the couple of years we have had our MacBooks. My first one melted apart, my second one stopped working unexpectedly, and my third one is melting apart too. His first one was chewed by a cat (clearly not Apple's fault), his second one literally caught on fire during usage, and his third one gets so hot that it burns your hand to touch and it won't charger the computer. We have different era MacBooks, but we both have had so many many problems with these charges. It bothers me to no end that we will have to shell out another $80 after spend thousands on the laptops and hundreds on replacement chargers. NOT HAPPY!!!

This is a piece of garbage

The worst experience I ever had; my fourth adopter just failed. Each one only lasted for about 8 months. Now what to do?

    Piece of low quality junk

    • Written by from Bexhill on Sea

Another power adaptor failed. I have to replace these pretty much each year. Doesn't matter how carefully you treat these things, they are fundamentally flawed. I have 14 significant individual Apple products ( iPods, iPads, MacBooks, Mac TV, Mac mini ....) and these adaptors are singly the only thing with which I have an ongoing problem. Evidently a design problem, which perhaps the wonder-designers can't work out... Poor after sales service too. Apple becoming just another electrical consumable producer.

    RUN!

    • Written by from Fairburn

I'm on my third charger in past two years. This will be the LAST time I buy a charger if I buy one before I consider going back to PC. The little white box on the charger got really hot this previous time and later that day I realized that it had melted the rubber on the little cord so now the wires are exposed. I got some tape to tape it up and I'm going to try and ride this one out. Shame on you Apple.

    Faulty charger

    • Written by from Sugar Land

I absolutely love my MacBook pro! This computer is the reason that I got into Web and Graphic design, but these chargers are something else. I have had my computer for 2 years and I have gone through 3 chargers. I will admit, coming from a PC, I roughed up the first one, but I absolutely babied the other 2 and they still broke on me. I found a place that will replace my charger a little better than AppleCare would though. It's kinda like charger insurance. It's my fix until Apple comes up with a better solution. It's called mac charger replacement on FaceBook. Hope this helps guys :)

    Fire Hazard. Burnt cable.

    • Written by from Pasadena

The part where the thin cable meets the adaptor starting heating up, turning yellow-ish, then split, frayed, and how it's dangling hopelessly. This is obviously an engineering defect, but I guess Apple doesn't care. Disappointing. I'm going to go get some ice cream and be happy again.

    Fed up.

    • Written by from Thornhill

As much as I love my macbook I have gone through 6 chargers in the past 4 years. One of the chargers was returned within 4 months and within those months I didn't use it all. My first charger was torn up after about a year but every charger after that just stopped working. The only way to get it to work is to move the cord around until the green light turns on. This seems to be an ongoing thing. Apple should really fix this issue

    Faulty Charger

    • Written by from Morgan hill

I have had my macbook pro for about three years, and have replaced its charger twice. I have read many other reviews that have had this same problem. The first one lasted about two years, but the second one only lasted one. It isn't cheap to replace these, and I hope apple has been working to improve their quality.

    They don't last!

    • Written by from Santa Fe

I've had my MacBook Pro for a tiny bit over a year.

I had to replace the charger TWICE! I didn't even do anything to the charger... it just randomly tears... AND $80 TO REPLACE!?!?! THATS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! I also don't have a apple store near me so if it tears I have to travel 1.5 hours because I rely on my computer.

    NICE COMPUTER. BAD CHARGERS.

THIS CHARGER HAS VERY BAD REVIEWS FOR MY EXACT REASONS I'VE LISTED.

Disappointed: 3rd charger in 5 years

    • Written by from Libertyville

I have had my MacBook for 5 years now with minimal issues, yet I'm on my 3rd charger. It seems like a common problem if you look at the other reviews on this product. It's very frustrating to have to buy charger after charger at 80 some dollars a piece. I bought a Mac because I had heard about their outstanding reliability. It seems this only goes for the laptop itself, not the accessories. You would think that Apple would address the issue with so many dissatisfied customers.

    Can't be an Apple...

    • Written by from Sulphur

Chargers just stop working for NO reason! This will be my 3rd charger in 2years and I can't blame it on wear & tear. This has to be by far the poorest apple product I own. My last laptop was a dell, had for over 4 years, replaced charger once for $30 not $80 x3! Apple should fix this because my loyalty (and looks like many others too) is wearing thin.

Cr*ptastic failure mode. Make the connector replaceable!

    • Written by from Saint Paul

I'm now the owner of several perfectly good MagSafe adapters, other than the fact that the tiny pins have jammed up and no longer connect. I'm tired of shelling out close to $100 for the failure of a tiny part.

Here's an idea: Make the actual MagSafe cord something which can be replaced by plugging it into the brick, just like the AC side of things. Then you can only stick me for $20-$30 or so when I inevitably replace the failing part, but at least won't have to chuck the whole thing.

C'mon Apple, innovate (and score some eco-points - I can only imagine how many of these adapters have ended up in landfills...)

Power Cord / Adapters - Generally Speaking ..

    • Written by from Midland

I have had my MacBook for 5 years and I am on my third power cord / cable / adapter. $89.00 each. I do not understand with all the negative feedback on this product, especially given the cost, that Apple is not addressing it. I was also frustrated when my mate got a newer version Ipad than I had only to discover our power cords are not compatible and we must travel with multiple cords.

For years I have been true to Mac, but this, along with the falling behind of compatibility issues I have sharing data with PC users is making me re-think it all. If this is an attempt at a repeatable revenue draw it is frustrtating. To win back my loyalty I would like to see Apple move to having all cords both quality and compatible. A customer first approach, which was what Apple used to represent.

I couldn't believe that product has been delivered by Apple >>> Jobs won't allow this !!!

3rd Power Supply in a Year

    • Written by from Nelson

This is definitely one Apple product that can hugely be improved on. I've gone through several of these myself and I don't feel like I'm mistreating them at all. IMO the cable should come out of the magsafe connector at a 90 degree angle. It seems like pointing the cable towards the front or back is rarely a convenient angle and causes stress on the cable. Also, the magsafe connector is not a very handy shape to be pulling from. I'm a little guy and my fingers are not too fat but it seems like getting a grip on the little sucker is pretty difficult. The space between it and the surface the computer is sitting on is definitely too small to wedge my fingers into and get a grip to pull.

Doesn't seem like it matters much to Apple but that's my 2 bits. Nothing much else that we can do about it other then buying cheap aftermarket power adapters, which I'm sure couldn't be any worse.

    Does not last.

    • Written by from Windham

My t shape adaptor lasted four years. This new L shaped design has lasted a year. I baby my gear and am not impressed with the longevity of this product. I should be greatful that I got this much time out of it considering all the other negative reviews.
I really don't want to pay $80 for another one. Over priced.

    Poor Quality

    • Written by from San Diego

I have gone through 2 power supplies so far. The way this adapter is designed, causes stress which wears out at the point where the cord starts. Apple needs a durable cord that will outlast the computer for a few years at least. If the adapter were more like a plug-in similar to the jack for ipod headphones..., somewhere else on the computer would be a good thing. Come on Apple for what is paid for an Apple computer, you think you could design a better power supply.

This charger doesn't last long. I went through 3 of them already. An $80 charger by Apple should last several years. Very frustrating!
