Poor design, what were you thinking

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

the brick itself may be quality, but the cable was definitely designed for its looks. Like literally every other apple cable i have owned, that came out in the last five years or so, they always break on the end. Today my sister came to me to charge her MacBook because her broke after being repaired for the second time. Mine was hold together with tape but today, after less than a year it snapped. I am on 3% battery, using the last 13 minutes i have (witch is impressive by the way) on telling you how much you s****. Fire someone and fix it ASAP

I have had to replace two adapters in the past 6 months

    • Written by from Sedona

Come on Apple - you are known and respected for your lap tops. I have been a loyal customer since 1985 (!) and always trusted the Apple brand. However my recent experience with the l-shaped power cords for the 13 " Macbook Pro has been highly disappointing and frustrating. From the reviews by other customers I read on just the first page I can see we are all disgusted with the quality and price. Twice this year the prongs for the magnetic connection have broken off! I can connect them for awhile but then the connection starts to fail and I have to grit my teeth and replace the device.

Surely Apple could reengineer the power adapter so that it does not fray, burn, fall apart as is reported by so many loyal customers. Paying almost $90 to replace it is wearing on my patience as well as confidence that Apple stands behind its products. I would appreciate it if customer support would contact me regarding the issue.

    Way too expensive.

    • Written by from Calgary

I've had my MacBook since 2008 and since I've bought it I've had to replace the charging cord several times. While I may not lose the charging function of the cord, it frays excessively. I'm well aware that things will grow weathered and tattered - such is life, nothing lasts forever. This is out of control though. I'm a huge supporter of Apple and their products but this is one thing that really grinds my gears. They look and act cheap but they're sure to put a hole in the average Joe's pocket. It's a shame its our only option.

Wires inside the cable are too fragile...

    • Written by from Albany

The magnetic attachment is the best thing since sliced bread. Saved my computer many many times. But I've used up several of these units over the years, and it's just a simple (and stupid) matter of the tiny tiny tiny wires inside the small cable breaking. And they're completely unrepairable. It's just stinging out on a very expensive power adapter. Shame.

    Bad Plastics

    • Written by from Shoreline

After all the problems with the G4 series adapers I was really hoping you would get it right this time. Nope. Same issues. The intersection points on the adapters fail over time (fraying and splitting). I could understand a bit of wear at the insertion point for the laptop, but the terminals failed at the same rate, (the damage was identical on both ends of the adapter). I am not one of those people who pull the adapter out of the wall with a yank, most of the time my adapter stays plugged into one place. To me that means the plastics used were inferior (eroding and changing color). At $79 to replace, this feels like a kind of extortion. Very unhappy loyal customer.

Not Durable at All - Time to rethink the design.

    • Written by from Greer

I followed the care instructions the the letter... and yet my charger's wires became twisted and bent underneath the rubber coating. This will eventually lead to stressed and frayed connections... Not to mention this is my SECOND charger in 2 Year's time. This charger is not on par with the computer itself.

    Faulty charger

    • Written by from Sugar Land

I absolutely love my MacBook pro! This computer is the reason that I got into Web and Graphic design, but these chargers are something else. I have had my computer for 2 years and I have gone through 3 chargers. I will admit, coming from a PC, I roughed up the first one, but I absolutely babied the other 2 and they still broke on me. I found a place that will replace my charger a little better than AppleCare would though. It's kinda like charger insurance. It's my fix until Apple comes up with a better solution. It's called mac charger replacement on FaceBook. Hope this helps guys :)

Disappointed: 3rd charger in 5 years

    • Written by from Libertyville

I have had my MacBook for 5 years now with minimal issues, yet I'm on my 3rd charger. It seems like a common problem if you look at the other reviews on this product. It's very frustrating to have to buy charger after charger at 80 some dollars a piece. I bought a Mac because I had heard about their outstanding reliability. It seems this only goes for the laptop itself, not the accessories. You would think that Apple would address the issue with so many dissatisfied customers.

I am losing faith in Apple products

    • Written by from Bloomingdale

This adapter did not last long. They get frayed at the magnet portion of the cord. Same thing applies to ALL the usb cords I have been through for my iPhones. At this price, it IS ridiculous and I am not a happy customer.

    Not worth it...Short Life.

    • Written by from Ann Arbor

If the cord rarely leaves the room then, I suppose this product would be fine. However, as a college student, this cord will last at MAX maybe two years. I've seen it with all of my mac friends too. I am tired of purchasing replacement chargers. It is not worth so much money. Why can't the design be FIXED?!

    Horrible Chargers

    • Written by from St. Paul

I have bought 3 of these $80 chargers in the four years that I have had my laptop. I love Apple like I'm a crazy fan & am highly devoted. But I'm a college student now who needs to save money.

    DO BETTER APPLE!!!!!

    • Written by from Portland

Of all the Apple products I've owned over the past 11 years(lots).......this is the worst. On average failing every couple years, for a power cord!!! At $80 a pop this is a sham. If Apple wants us to own it's cords to prevent hazardous occurrences from 3rd party cheaper cords then it had better do a much better job making these. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO SEE ANOTHER CORD STOP WORKING AND TO SEE ANOTHER $80 RUNG UP!

    Design the charger better.

    • Written by from Union City

    Dear Apple,

I hope you guys can design a better charger for the macbook pro. I am having issues with my cord, the wires are exposed and bent out of shape and surprisingly it still works. Is it possible to reinforce the cable so that it will resist from breaking, benting, or splitting? Thx.

Nice, but my DC cords ALWAYS wear through

    • Written by from Hilo

I've been using adapters of this style since the original (2006) black MacBook, and while they have excellent industrial design and are clever and beautiful like everything that comes out of Apple, the thinner DC cord coming out of the transformer block is the product's achilles heel. It will wear through, no doubt about it - and even faster if you bend the cable sharply to wrap it around the fold-outs "as intended." I'm about to order a replacement adapter for my 4-year-old MBP13 due to this problem. I've seen it enough times that I'm ready to call it a "design flaw," even in front of Ive himself. Sturdier construction at this critical point would be wonderful, as everything else about these adapters seems perfect - as does everything else about the laptops that outlive them.

Well today I am writing a review on the mag safe 60W adapter on my iPhone 5 because my Mac is out of battery, want to know why? Well here it is my adapter was charging this morning just fine around 3 am when I woke up to go to work. Got to work used my computer for about 4-5 hours died and went to plug in my charger and well no charge, not even the light comes on. Good thing I have apple care. I have had this charger since 2011 just after Christmas, and it just broke :/ here I come apple to get my new (BETTER BE FREE) new $80 charger.

doesn't last much longer than a year

    • Written by from Kalamazoo

The original adapter that came with my 2011 MBP charges great; unfortunately the cable close to the "L" rips and shreds just short of a year. Luckily, I was still within the manufacturer's warranty and was able to receive a free replacement but sadly enough, its just over a year later, I'm no longer under the manufacturer's warranty, and my cord is just starting to shred. It'd be great that if I spend over $1000 on a laptop whose manufacturer boasts about forethought in design that the accompanying charger would be as quality as the laptop I bought...just saying.

    Mag safe power adapter

    • Written by from Waterloo

This is a good adapter. It manages to stay cool and I've never had an issue with it getting tangled. The extension is very nice. But it's the quality and the life of these wires that worries me. They don't last long at all. With simple bends and calm use of the power adapter the plugs get bent, the cord fabric gets ripped and soon after you see it not being much of any use. I would very much prefer getting a much robust material which can endure bends and rough edges and occasional roll overs with a chair. It's 80 dollars plus tax, you really should be giving a quality product. This isn't the quality expected from Apple. Apple products are supposed to endure and provide a premium feel, much like an Audi or BMW would give an enthusiast. I'd like to see this being improved in the near future, especially with the release of the new Macbooks. Cheers, but I'm not satisfied with the product. But I have to buy it and keep on buying it. Do you think it's reasonable? I certainly don't think so.

    short lifespan

    • Written by from Sheridan

I bought my mac 18 months ago, and while I love it I have to say I am quite disappointed with the charger/cord. The plastic/rubber coating has cracked and crumbled at the base of the L-shaped plug to the point where the wires are exposed and now starting to fray. I am not rough on my electronics, so this is just normal wear and tear. I am now looking for a replacement or some option to extend the life of my charger since $79 is pretty steep for a power cord that doesn't last much beyond a year. Apple should really consider another material for the coating on the cord.

Great adapter, except bad power block design

    • Written by from Prairie City

I am about to order my sixth power adapter for a late 2008 macbook aluminum. The magsafe idea is great: if you trip over it, it doesn't pull your computer to the floor. they don't last, though. i am writing this on a slowly dying computer with no way to charge it.
